Do you guys think there's any small chance he might voice the last briefing? Yes, I know it sounds more up Foster Addison's alley, but, maybe, there's something engineering-related about first contact protocols?

I am not usually very pessimistic about these sort of things, but given the pattern that has emerged here, I'm guessing they aren't talking about any m/m content because they don't want the controversy. They announced Dorian and Sera were same-sex options only and for a while there, it was all the gaming media seemed to cover about the game. They probably don't want the focus on the game to be about romances, especially m/m romances for fear of alienating some of their straight male player base (I'm not saying all, or even most, straight male gamers would have an issue with this, but enough would for it to risk a negative and distracting backlash). EA expects this game to sell 3 million copies in its first week if I'm not mistaken. That's a big set of expectations and so they probably really want to avoid any unnecessary drama. It's going to be hard enough to hit that number without an army of trolls tanking consumer review scores and accusing the game of pushing an agenda.

My guess (and I want to emphasize this is a guess): There will be no m/m options in the main squad as they are too high profile. Gil may have a well-written and satisfying romance, but he will be totally isolated from the core plot. Like Steve, if you never speak to him, he is pretty much a non-entity; a shuttle pilot with a name basically. This allows players who want to explore that content to do so without it being very noticeable to those who would give the game a 0 score on Metacritic because gay people are in it.

I should also point out, I am not okay with that mindset. I don't appreciate gay characters being made invisible just so it doesn't make certain other people uncomfortable. Again, maybe I'm wrong, but why formally announce Cora, all but confirm Peebee and Jaal (for female players), and then say absolutely nothing about the single character we have the most evidence for even being a m/m option (namely, he seems responsive to Scott's flirting; that's it)? To be fair, they have only formally announced Cora for male Ryders, but they have been noticeably more tight-lipped about anything even broaching the topic of m/m pairings.

Phew! Sorry for the rant, but that's been building for a while. I am so excited for so many parts of this game, but this is one area that I have real concerns about. I sincerely hope Bioware proves me wrong. I would love the opportunity to eat my words.

Well now I'm depressed.
And BW should really be less concerned about gay content in their game (and talking about it), and more concerned about the quality of their game and animation.





I've seen '' straight gamers '' throw shit at the game for it's bad character models and animations, rather than the obvious inclusion of LGBT characters.

Yeah, I agree, I don't think he'll be voicing the last briefing.  I do think we're going to see Suvi and Gil featured in a video or trailer or something, though.  Maybe even in the next briefing.  They're the last remaining crew members to be revealed and we've got three weeks to go.  I'm fairly confident we'll get some information on them "soon".  

(Ugh, I hate myself for using that word.  And I hate that I hate using that word now.)

I agree that fanfic shouldn't have to make up for canon fuck-ups.

Let's hope the actual game delivers.

Oh, you guys. This thread. This poor, poor thread. It's like it got ran over mercilessly with no warning by a semi driven by Neil Pollner himself. And now, it tries to put itself back together. I applaud those who remain optimistic and grieve with those who are hella frustrated and saddened with BioWare.

At this point it is so blantantly obvious what's going on. It really isn't right. I don't care what story BioWare tells itself to justify it, but it's wrong. When I played Mass Effect 1 as an awkward teen in 2007 and up through ME3, I looked up to BioWare as being progressive- where it openly celebrated its gay characters. I thought things were turning in the gaming industry because developers were willing to be the spearhead to that change. Now, they pander to straight men who get butthurt easily and willingly throw loyal fans under the bus for it.

It hurts dude. But maybe, just maybe, something beyond incredible lies waiting to be discovered on the 21st.  

Fanfic is life.  I love fanfics, sometimes even better than the original narrative, if the writer is good enough.  Not gonna lie, I'm kinda looking forward to all the amazing fanfics that will be created from Andromeda.  Especially if there is some townie fling that I just adore but they didn't give a good romance to.  Or maybe I get a hint of chemistry between two NPC's that'd be fun to expand on.  The delicious anticipation gives me shivers, sometimes.  :hearteyes:
