Copying my post from another thread: I did the "What He Would Have Wanted" quest yesterday, where you place the beacons for the guy with the motivation messages from his son. With Scott on the path to being a dad himself, it really gave his line, "I'm not sure I'm ok with this" a different meaning than before.

I finally finished my first playthrough, yay!
Gotta say that the whole game is far from bad but it's also far from good. The Gil romance is definitively too short content-wise, if you do not rush through the main-story quests you are basically stuck with a vegetable-kind-of-lethargic pace of the romance since only real new stuff about him happens at beginning and around ending of the story of the game. :/
Now I can peacefully wait (maybe play some DAI or Resident Evil with bara-Chris?) for the next patches and see if they'll improve something about this romance or not...

I don't think that's a problem just with Gil's romance. I had the same feeling my first game romancing Vetra (not yet familiar with all the "trigger" points) and 2d game with Jaal, where the pacing and banter/convos were all over the place. I spent about half of each game wondering if I'd done something wrong to mess it up. I was able to do a little better my third game with Cora, but there were still long stretches of nothing new.

Yeah. All the romances have this annoying pacing problem right after Ark Parchero. Gil's is just noticeably worse because he has the least content in the first place.

I'd also say that part of the problem is that Gil's romance has really major life events brought up in the course of it, but, because of the pacing issues and the lack of any other conversations with him, they seem really off-kilter. Like, the relationship effectively goes first kiss on Prodromos, having sex and saying I love you, 'do you want to have a baby right now?' with no sign of anything in between even happening. That's how fast it goes. If someone's burning through the game's main content, we basically have this happening in the course of what feels like a week in-game. And even that's only if you allow for travel time - in terms of how many hours you've put into the game, that's probably only about ten hours, fifteen tops. Like, we've been dating for a week and you not only want to say 'I love you,' you want to have kids right away?

It feels like a few days, except for when you set up Prodromos. No way that place is set up and ready to begin exporting produce to the Nexus in a week. More like a couple of months.

yall are generous. I don't think hours took place between sex and "Oh you want to have kids right, Jill does-I've never thought about it, but Jill wants my seed-should I do it?"

It's less 'generous' and more 'by god there WILL be time between these events and for the sake of my sanity I will accept no other option.'

Half of that game is trying to make the pacing seem less terrible then it actually is.

Well, if you insert Reyes' romance during the draught, it's about right for a romance content that lasts the full game. It also adds the courtship element left out of Gil's content. It leaves young Ryder in a peculiar situation qualitatively, but quantitatively I was okay, and felt he got attention he deserved. The ending of the game is particularly uplifting, what with Gil giving speeches, and Reyes rushing over to help out during the battle. I did stop short of turning Ryder into a space sultan and getting a baby on a concubine.
I have to say that in hindsight, it was the most bewildering romantic sequence I had in a videogame, but it sort of looked like a good idea at the time.

There needs to be improvements to Gil's romance this month or that patch promise becomes a total lie and it'll show this branch of bioware doesnt care about gay content at all. And if said improvements are trivial then it just reinforces that they dont consider it important enough to put the effort in like they did with straight romances. They already openly said they were happy with the inequality and failure to provide with this patch will prove that.

They already openly said they were happy with the inequality and failure to provide with this patch will prove that. The big problem I see with that is that... Gil's story really needs rebuilding from the ground up. It needs to be changed significantly, on a level that isn't just some e-mails and a cutscene alteration here and there, it needs to address a lot of the major issues - Jill's involvement, the lack of content and involvement, the focus coming back to him in the first place... All of that takes money, because they have to write new dialogues and get the actors back into the studio. And while I certainly believe that they SHOULD eat the cost, that this was something that should never have been allowed to happen in the first place... Ultimately, I have a difficult time seeing them doing that. Like, MAYBE, if it's part of the contract that the actors will come in for DLC or something (since the EC/Leviathan had the actors come back, plus Citadel and Inquisition's DLCs), they could get away with it, but... I don't know if I have the faith and trust that's required to believe that they will do this. I mean, like you said, they said they were happy with what was there to begin with - I can't bring myself to believe that they understand what is wrong with what is there at this point, because this was SO wrong, and a casual glance should have said as much, let alone a roomful of writers.

While I agree a huge amount of work needs putting in to truly make the romances equal. A bunch of little things would do. An animated sex scene. Make the kiss available even if no baby Make the wink a romance related thing not a squadmate related one Some little animations in dialogue and cutscenes - a kiss and a hug every now and then. At the end make Gil (or any LI) be at the foreground or stood next to Scott (or Sara). Have LI occasionally hang out in the pathfinder's quarters with repeatable kisses and implied sex like in DAI. None of these would require the VAs and would certainly be acts of good faith and what I would class as them actively trying to improve the m/m content.

How this was even allowed to happen is beyond me. I mean, even the Hainly Abrams issue was considered an "oversight" (according to their public statement)... *sigh* I'm nervous to see how they decided to approach our upcoming patch. I don't think it would be a smart move to release it during EA Play - but then again, they've made some highly questionable decisions before and after the game's release, so yeah
