My main problem is with how quickly it happens. Scott's only twenty-two; his brain hasn't even fully developed yet, and he's only been with Gil for a few weeks, maybe a couple months by that point. While I do think that some of the hate towards Jill is overblown, her immediately jumping to Scott and Gil having a baby at that point really makes her look like she's missing a few screws.

Yeah I'm 27 but while I certainly won't be carded anymore and my eyes may sometimes seem a bit tied, wrinkles isn't a common thing yet . Seems like its a 30s thing for me.

LOL. 1. everyone ages differently. 2. It's far more likely that the facial animations just leave much to be desired.
However, I must say that in real life our faces do scrunch up a bit when we emote and talk-it's just not THAT much normally. So it's an exaggeration of it that makes it so off putting I guess. It doesn't bother me generally. I have long since gotten used to it.

Eh, I think it still is. Then again, I like the natural skin look that Frostbite has and find the mods that make people look smooth and fake to be completely unappealing.

It's amazing how far we've come in my lifetime from 8 bit sprites to current gen pc graphics (which are above what I get on ps4 I know). It's all very impressive, and I'm glad I got to experience the evolution of gaming mostly from the start. (well from nes days forward anywho, though I did play some atari-but not at it's launch)

It's all very impressive, and I'm glad I got to experience the evolution of gaming mostly from the start. (well from nes days forward anywho, though I did play some atari-but not at it's launch) Yeah, I started playing video games on a SNES, and just the vast graphical differences that came about from the Xbox classic... Like, if nothing else, that's part of what I cite as why facial animations not being perfect not bothering me in the slightest, because I've witnessed the evolution of graphics and recognize that this is, for all its advancements, still a young accomplishment - only about fifteen years ago, all characters in games were made up of boxes of varying sizes. It wasn't really until the last gen of game systems that genuine emotions could even appear on faces beyond a turn of the lips and a raising of an eyebrow. Like, compare Kaidan Alenko's puppy dog eyes at 'I lied, I didn't come here for a quick drink' to Carth Onasi's complete lack of emotional physicality at his anguished shout after Saul Karath tells him Revan's identity. That difference is only about ten years, and it's amazing the change in the level of conveyed emotion in the in-game models. So this is still new territory on the whole, of COURSE there are kinks to work out. As for the baby thing... Yeah, I'm kinda right on the borderline of it. I DON'T want kids, this is something I'm convinced of and adamant about in my life - I don't have it in me, I know my limits, and I'm not about to father a child I don't feel like I can give 100% to. At the same time, I'm not against this being explored. The biggest issue I have with it in Gil's case (beyond the involvement of Fucking Jill and how it's HER desire to have a kid now that sparks the question, not Gil's own wishes and desires) is that there is such a compacting of everything to 'get Gil ready' to be a father, the game basically forgets about Gil as a character, as a person. This isn't a story about Gil maturing and being ready to take on this responsibility. We don't see Gil's supposed immaturity. It tells us, rather than shows us. And, ultimately, Gil ends up taking a backseat to Jill and the baby - Jill's having an arc, going from procreation tech to expectant mother. Gil's a supporting character in her narrative, where the things he says and does are to support and build her up, rather than having anything to do with him. I'm significantly less on the fence regarding Ryder's future, though - I honestly was expecting them to start doing rotating protagonists in the series, even without the vocal minority backlash to the game in general. And honestly, especially considering the fact that Gil, a romance option, has a story that ends in potentially having a baby on the way... Like it was one thing for ME2 and ME3 to continue Shepard's story and introduce new LIs, since there weren't kids involved. But in any follow up game, if Ryder is still the PC, and new LIs are introduced, allowing us to dump the original LI for a new character... I mean, it'd definitely be new ground, but I don't feel like it's a topic they really would be addressing. So I expect that DLC will be the conclusion of Ryder's story.

Hah this reminds me of how they were in Nevetrwinter Nights, essentially heads with painted on faces that bobbed around as characters were speaking. I'm always amazed and awed by great facial animations, like the one of Scott smiling as he stroke's Gil's cheek, or subtle changes in Dorian's face as he understands that you're his friend and support him. It's always so wonderful to see these things. For MEA specifically, the only animation issue that bothered be are the eyes; they move around too much. The reason it's bothersome is because it's distracting and takes me out of the scene.

So, for those of you who turned down the baby option, do any of you still picture Scott and Gil having children further down the line?
Personally, I like to imagine that they'll have children regardless, just when Scott's thirty or so instead of twenty-two.

Nah, I imagine Scott and Gil go on without children, and surround themselves with friends and family of choice. Same here. But part of that is because I'm not interested in children, so it's difficult to imagine my character wanting them. I don't do a full self insert, but there are always bits of myself in my characters. As far as for Gil, I'm not convinced that having children is something that he truly wants. Even ignoring the Jill factor, he still has so many lingering issues from his own father's abandonment, that I think he should work some of those out first. What he needs is stability, and I think being with Scott can give him that. I also really like the Sara/Vetra headcanon. Gay twins are the best twins.

Even ignoring the Jill factor, he still has so many lingering issues from his own father's abandonment, that I think he should work some of those out first. What he needs is stability, and I think being with Scott can give him that. I also really like the Sara/Vetra headcanon. Gay twins are the best twins. Same here, no kids at all for my boys. I'm not interested in having kids, and my Ryders are never going to feel like this is something they want (given the angara's thing about big families, that's kinda why I don't think Jaal's a good romance fit for me - his massive family is overwhelming and unnerving for me, my anxiety kicks in just watching the 'meet the family' sequence with friend!Ryder, let alone it being a regular thing if Ryder and Jaal are a thing). Plus with the bundle of absent father issues I think of them with, they feel that being a parent is a commitment, something that they have to be fully on board with, because an absent parent is as bad as no parent. With the responsibilities of being a Pathfinder already weighing on them, it's just too much. To have a kid and be the Pathfinder, they'd lose their ability to ever just be themselves. My take on Gil (amateur psychology hour begins) is that it's less that he genuinely wants a child (with his adamant refusal to not refuse to do this now if not romanced coming across blatantly as 'you don't think this is a good idea? I'll show you!' which... is absolutely not responsible, not mature, and definitely one of if not the worst reasons to have a child) and more that Gil wants something that shows that he matters. That he has some legacy. That this street kid who slipped through the cracks gets his chance to be remembered, to do something worthy of remembering, something that only he could do - that's what I think motivates his sixty hour work days. Having a child means that he at least has contributed someone to the Initiative who literally could not exist without him, so yeah, accomplishment there. But he's not thinking of being a parent, just having a kid - the responsibility after the fact is something that, based on what's in the game, he's giving no thought to. Gil admits it early on, he lives in the moment, first and foremost. He doesn't think ahead, which is a fundamental part of making the decision to be a parent. Even if, years down the line, he sorts through his issues and decides that yes, he wants to become a parent, or would at least be open to the idea, right now, at the point in the game, having a child is a bad, bad decision, one that he'll utterly regret down the line, because he didn't anticipate what it meant to be a father, especially considering his lack of a role model.

I thought Ryder can make Gil think about make children comes together with responsibility to be a father. That is what it goes about in the discussion of them. Gil begins to think about wisely, if Ryder does care about this way. No matter if Ryder romanced Gil or not.
By the way, did you mentioned the diffrent physics of Gils and Ryders hair? I have tooked this duck hair, similar this one from Gil, but Scotts is moving with every quiver.

In my only ME:A runthrough- I had my Ryder decide on having a kid with Brodie. But I don't agree with it. I know, doesn't make sense. Interestingly, I can see mShenko with kid(s) in the future more than I can see Brodie and Ryder with kid(s)- despite mShenko never mentioning having kid(s). Though, might be because of the plentiful, adorable and delightful fanfic drawings of mShenko a few years back as a family unit and with a kid. I find Brodie and Ryder jumping the gun with having a kid to be a turn off. As if they were some deluded and unprepared high school couple. And yes. I summon this Gil Brodie thread to rise from the dead.

There was a leak pre-release where we heard a voice clip of Brodie saing "both his or her daddies" which was incredibly cute at the time. I wanted to hear it in my playthrough. But, I kinda lost my passion for the game 2/3 of the way through and didn't really care anymore how things ended. I was also fiercely curious on how BioWare was going to do the kid thing- but they then cancelled further development of the game anyway, so guess I'll never find out. Probably best that way.
