Decided to help the salarian and volus continue scanning the keepers, but opted not to help the cheating salarian. Still need to go back and talk to Conrad again, trace a signal coming from a rigged gambling machine, and explore some areas of Citadel that I haven't been to yet. I'm currently dragging Garrus and Tali around Citadel with me. Tali is ok...comments are a bit boring, I guess. But Garrus appears to have lost his personality somewhere. Where is the snark? "The ambassadors have this beautiful park to relax in, but...heh, most of them are too busy to ever use it." Really. Ya don't say, Garrus. You should be aware that you can only talk to Conrad once during each visit to the Citadel... so the next step in that side-quest will have to wait until your next visit.

Yeah, I figured that out after I circled his area a few times and he wasn't there. I'm running out of things to do on Citadel, I think. I've got to finish tracking down the code, but I don't have anything else pending. I'm at level 9.

If so, you do get a little less XP for the battle sections that you would get if on a higher difficulty.

I drove the stupid tank into a lava pit and died.
It ought to go in the direction I'm looking, just like Shepard does. I definitely do not have a light touch on the keyboard.
Do I have to drive this thing on every planet I visit?

GREAT! Made it to the turrets, knocked out two of them, then got killed again from hull breach. So where does the autosave leave me? Back at the landing site! Of course it does!

It's a good idea in Mass Effect 1 to do a manual save frequently. You can usually do one whenever the map has no enemies on it (as long as you're not on in an elevator). You're discovering why people love to hate the mako. Careful, its quirkiness may grow on you... It can get you into some of the most hilarious situations in the game..

I'm usually a pretty compulsive saver. (As in, I almost always run out of save slots and have to start reusing them before I finish a game.) I tried to save along the way, but it wouldn't let me. I drove the stupid tank into a lava pit and died. That's awesome. Yes Remember this post? I said I'm curious what your thoughts will be about......I was referring to the Mako. Greeaaaaat. Ok, it actually let me save after the ship landed and dropped off its little geth, but NOT after the three turrets. For some reason, they went down quicker this time. Edit: Oh, look...a side door. Tali wasn't just shitting around

I do better than that - I punch F5 after I've cleared the area in every mini-battle. Also before attempting to open any one-shot only locks in ME1.
Nice thing about ME1, at least on PC, is there is no save limit, so if you want 300 saves you can have them. I hate the 50 save limits in 2 and 3. I usually end up around 75 or so per game.

I decided my Shepard looked too weird and unlike her "future" self and it has started to annoy me (because she's not "my" Shepard), so I recreated her in a new game with the intention of importing the new face into my current savegame. Then I realized that there is no save editor for ME1, and no way to import a different face, as far as I can tell. So now I'm trying to decide whether it is worth replaying up to this point with the new face, or whether I should just push through with Ms. Weirdo and try not to look too hard every time her face comes on screen (because she's an imposter!) According to Origin, I have played 11 hours up to this point, but it would go quicker the second time since I know where everything is. Yes, I know I'm nuts. I should probably sleep on this monumental decision

Ah, the woes of no face editor. I'm usually able to overlook smaller issues, but if the face is wrong altogether I'll start over. It can be hard to play the wrong face, since you have to stare at it. New games that have the face-change feature do spoil us, don't they? So I guess you didn't try using her face code from 2/3? Some of the options are not the same but it might give you a more familiar look to work with. If you decide to keep pushing, just remember you can make an entirely new face for Shepard in 2. Assuming you make it that far with your imposter.

Every gamer worth their salt knows that F5 quicksave is a lifesaver! *punches F5 every five mins* ... and every gamer who plays Mass Effect on a console knows that the "quick save" wasn't implemented there until ME3. Also, we only get 10 save slots on the Xbox, so it means overwriting saves from the get go. More recently, RotTR didn't allow for any manual or quick saves on the console... totally dependent on their autosaves; but the game was good about doing the autosaves quite frequently.

I should probably sleep on this monumental decision I have yet to create a really decent looking custom Shepard in ME1. I've given up and just use the default appearance. I get much better results in ME2... I just head canon that Miranda's perfectionism caused her to make some alterations to Shepard's appearance.

I deactivated the thieving AI. I think. I mean, nothing really happened, but the journal says "complete." Next stop, pick up Liara. Had a conversation with Joker and he gave me a bit of an attitude. So many of my old friends just aren't themselves in this game. I guess serving under Shepard changes them for the better? Thieving AI? The one behind the hanar-owned shop? Did it try to kill you and you had to deactivate it before that happened? As far as Joker goes, that's kind of his personality. At the beginning, he says something about how Anderson always sounds pissed when talking to him. Kaidan makes some comment about it being specific to Joker. Still, it may change in later games just due to bonding over life and death experiences. Also, given that Joker feels responsible for Shepard's death at the beginning of ME2, that might also change his behavior.

Greeaaaaat. At least it did a cool flip before plunging into the fiery abyss? Don't feel bad. I died a lot in the Mako when I played ME1 on the computer. When the game became available for the ps3, I didn't die as much since it was easier using a controller instead of the keyboard When I first played, I was using a keyboard and touchpad. That was rough with ME2 because planet scanning required a middle mouse button that isn't available on the touchpad. I had to remap the key, which couldn't be done from within the game itself. Then I got a mouse and all was well. I have a TV in the living room but share it with a non-gamer. Even if I had a console I doubt I'd get a lot of time to use it. PC works best for me. Plus, I love mods and they just aren't possible on consoles. EDIT: Maybe it would be worth it to retrieve my Xbox 360 controller and use a mod to play ME1 with it. (The 360 is dead, replaced once under warranty, so never felt like paying for a new one.)

Assuming you make it that far with your imposter. I didn't see anywhere to import a face code, but it's likely I just overlooked it. I found this handy site where you can paste in a face code and it will give you the sliders to go with it. It was accurate except for the hairstyle. She looks like my Shepard again, and the freakishly long neck appears to be gone. Come ME2, I'll probably use that rather than try eyeballing again. I think I'll just try to push through, mostly because those early fights when I have very few powers at my disposal are really annoying. I miss the almost non-existent ME3 cooldowns I decided my Shepard looked too weird and unlike her "future" self and it has started to annoy me (because she's not "my" Shepard), so I recreated her in a new game with the intention of importing the new face into my current savegame. Then I realized that there is no save editor for ME1, and no way to import a different face, as far as I can tell. I get much better results in ME2... I just head canon that Miranda's perfectionism caused her to make some alterations to Shepard's appearance. I'm pretty happy with the second attempt to re-create "Laura," but the first version...ugh. Do they always have swan necks? I thought maybe the female body model just has an extra long neck all the time, but Ashley doesn't have that problem. I deactivated the thieving AI. I think. I mean, nothing really happened, but the journal says "complete." Next stop, pick up Liara. Had a conversation with Joker and he gave me a bit of an attitude. It threatened to kill me and I had to randomly start clicking on sections of rings in order to stop it. Nothing exploded, so I assume I was successful. Can it actually kill you if you fail? Game-over-and-you-need-to-reload kill, I mean? For Joker, I guess I just don't remember him being quite that bitter. Sarcastic, sure, but not outright disrespectful. All the character seem to be different in this game, though, and not in a positive way. I should probably sleep on this monumental decision Maybe get through ME1 with this face. Then, when you import into ME2, use a save editor to change your face to the one you prefer. Yeah, I don't think I want to go through the early encounters again after all. I'll just...headcanon that the second face is the one she really has Greeaaaaat. At least it did a cool flip before plunging into the fiery abyss? Don't feel bad. I died a lot in the Mako when I played ME1 on the computer. When the game became available for the ps3, I didn't die as much since it was easier using a controller instead of the keyboard I think I could manage to be worse with a controller than with a keyboard, but I haven't used one since college, so who knows. At least the Mako is good for laughs. Sad, bitter laughs. I drove the stupid tank into a lava pit and died. /obligatory Hah! Love it. I tried to climb one of the gates with it, which made it look like a particularly stupid poodle. I guess I could use it to work out some aggression. Totally off-topic, but as soon as the page loaded for me to type my post, the site wallpaper changed. Where's my DAI-esque desert? And now we have more smileys? But they're tiny?? Is this one Dorian? :gentleman:

I think I've seen that site before, haven't used it because I've never worked backwards on making Shepard.
There isn't an import for face codes, just the code at the very bottom of the CC that you can change or input a new code. But, yeah, some things are different so it won't look identical.
edit: holy crap, I didn't notice the new smilies! :amirite: I'm on mobile-desktop right now and the background looks the same, but I'm not using a DA one. I forget the name.

Bad necks were a pretty universal criticism, yeah.
Don't worry too much about the Mako controls. There aren't too many lava flows or bottomless pits, and little else can harm you as long as you don't charge into kill zones.
