I'm on a planet in the Hades Gamma to rescue some scientists. I found a turian escape pod with some insignia inside, but no survivors. There is also a thresher maw. Why is there a goddamn thresher maw? I shot it a few times with the cannon, and then drove away as fast as I could. The Mako actually went vertical.

This planet looks like someone's first semester 3D modeling project Seriously, it's all grass and rock, with a few metal objects plunked down randomly with no texture changes to the ground to indicate any sort of foot or vehicle traffic. Not that I can do any better (I can't), but I'm not the one getting paid the big bucks for this Also, electronics skill is too low to salvage this probe, though I'm at level 4 in electronics. I guess I'll go check the last marker on this planet and see if that gives me enough points to level up again. If not, I may have to come back here.

Mini-spoiler on thresher maws (how many and where to find them):
There are a total of 9 in the game, 2 on one planet. One is semi-related to a quest but the rest are pretty much just there. Killing them gets you lots of XP and credits, more if finished off outside of the Mako. Locations are posted here: bsn.boards.net/post/228791/thread

"I never meant to offend you. I only meant that you would be an interesting specimen for in-depth study!" Liara T'soni: the Dagna of the 22nd Century Edit: that was an enlightening conversation. Now I know why I kept seeing Asari/Turian couples in the other games, and no "male" asari. I mean, sure, I could have read a codex but...who does that?

Why is there a goddamn thresher maw? I shot it a few times with the cannon, and then drove away as fast as I could. The Mako actually went vertical. Thresher maws are a terrific source of XP if you kill them; particularly if you kill them on foot. They are not that tough. When you trigger one, just drive away a little bit and park the mako behind a nearby knoll (so the maw can damage it with it's acid). Jump out with your gun ready and run back in to the poilt where you truggered it. Quickly and without ever stopping, run around it in a circle, shooting it as you run. If you keep running in the same direction, the acid will miss you (it might take out your squad), keep firing at it as you run without stopping, you will eventually bring it down. You can use a similar technique of circling and firing from inside the mako; but it's worth a lot more XP if you take it down on foot. You can also choose to whittle down its health with the mako and just do the killing shot on foot.

You can return to side planets afterwards to collect anything you missed the first time. There are several squad mates who also have decryption and electronics skills (Kaidan, Garrus, and Tali). It's a good idea to get at least one of them leveled to "hard" of each (9 pts) so that you can open everything in the game as long as you bring the squad mate with you.

Yeah, I figured that out after I circled his area a few times and he wasn't there. I'm running out of things to do on Citadel, I think. I've got to finish tracking down the code, but I don't have anything else pending. I'm at level 9. That sounds about right. Are you playing on casual difficulty? If so, you do get a little less XP for the battle sections that you would get if on a higher difficulty. Honestly I haven't yet seen any place where playing insanity yields greater XP than playing casual. I know for certain that the XP computation itself isn't affected. And if there are extra enemies that spawn only at higher difficulties, they are few and far between. (I can only think of a certain batarian sniper that I was pretty sure didn't spawn on my casual run of X57.) The highest level I've been able to reach prior to departing the Citadel is 13. The lowest was 6. Both of those runs required planning.

The lowest was 6. Both of those runs required planning. Well, way back when I was first starting out, upon my son's advice, I did back to back runs from the same save of the Fist fight, once on casual and once on normal. During the first fight on casual, I did not get enough XP to Level up; on the second I did. It was the same fight with the same Shepard at the start just repeated on a different difficulty. Maybe it's more random or something to do with the % of kills I get as opposed to my squad mates, but that little test is what convinced that I at least tend to get more XP when I'm playing at a higher difficulty level. In ME3 - I'm just now playing two simultaneous playthroughs, one on normal and one on insanity; and I'm clearly getting more XP for each medi-gel kit I open when I don't actually need medi-gel. (same med kits on the same mission, just playing at different difficulty levels). The only other change other than difficulty level is class. The guy I'm playing on normal is a soldier, the one I'm playing on Insanity is an infiltrator.

I will definitely see if there's something unique about that fight, thanks for letting me know where you did this test. As for ME3, you'll have to forgive me but I have no idea, I'm finally planning my first foray into ME2!

Why is there a goddamn thresher maw? First rule of ME1: there is always a thresher maw I remember my first time playing and avoiding thresher maws. Then I learned how easy it was to take them out with a mako. I mean, really easy. I decided to pick up on an unfinished ME2 PT but when it's done I may return to that adept waiting for me in ME1. Then I'll take out thresher maws on foot.

Ummm...I think I just gave a reporter WAY too much information. But I kind of impressed a rear admiral who came to "inspect" the Normandy and insult my squad. So, net positive? Yeah? I spoke to Conrad again, and now I'm off to find the docking bay to talk to someone about a girl from Mindoir.

You might not want to, but there is a cheat on Noveria that allows you to get, like, infinite renegade points. There is another cheat for paragon points on another planet. Eletania. Just sayin'

Actually, I think the Noveria cheat works with paragon too. However, it depends on your ability to use Charm/Intimidate speech options. ...And it is limited through a plot mission. I think they all have comments about the cold. It's quite frozen out there. Do they all huddle inside the airlock like little wimps? Not typically. :amirite:

If you've already convinced him to help the investigation then yes. (If not I hope I didn't just spoil it for you. ) Well, FYI for next time; you can cycle through the conversation as many times as you want for extra reputation: 1) Tell Quinn that he should testify (top left option). 2) When he refuses, select the Charm option (top left) for Paragon points or the Intimidate (bottom left) for Renegade points and end the conversation. 3) Talk to him again, and ask about the Matriarch. 4) When he gets done talking about her, select the "Other questions" option (bottom right). 5) Now, you'll have the option to ask him to testify again (top left). He'll refuse, and you'll be able to use the Charm or Intimidate option again to gain another 24 Paragon or Renegade points.
Repeat steps 3-5 until you have all the Paragon or Renegade points you want.
The one for Eltenaia is much simpler but only grants paragon.

Is that a glitch, or does he actually hate the cold that much? I kind of feel bad for taking him off the warm ship, now Wrex is from a planet that has had nuclear winter effects for so long that there is barely any plant life. You know that from ME3. He can handle the cold. You got a glitch, but it works well with role play.
