I'm worried, but I do think it'll be a great game. What i'm most worried about are the animations, so far, which are hardly completely game-breaking for me.

This is The Doctor Who cycle all over again: "I hate it! The predecessor was much better" DA2 was injustly hated in the moment. Everyone reminded DAO was way better and DA2 was simply a bad product. Then DAI is released and people like it. But what happened after a year with DAI? DA2 started to be praised, and people start to use it against DAI, which was "a bad product". ME3? The majority of people agreed it was pretty good except the ending. Then a year later, the hateful trend started, how ME3 was garbage, its predecessors were much better, etc. etc. etc. Now? It's starting all over again. I'm start to see people saying "at least DAI was better at X" "DAI is not as bad as people gave credit for" but that's not all of it. I'm starting to read ME3 had better animations, the plot is presumably better than Andromeda, etc etc etc This is a cycle Reaper's style. We hate the new things we see because we want it to be like the older games. At the same time we hate the old things coming back telling "they are uninspired" "and a copy". We hate and we idealized the past. Then this game will be the part of the past and people will start to see through the "nostalgia-glasses" how the game wasn't as bad as it was painted, or even it was pretty good. But that will no matter anymore because Bioware would be ultimately destroyed by its own fans and we won't be able to say it was EA's fault. Know the saying about how the grass is always greener on the other side? Some people are like turians, always with a stick up their asses...

You're not alone. Like I said I have faith in Bioware. Plus I'm not hard to please. I just want a great story, good gameplay and at least non-outdated animations. I like what I've seen so far for the most part. Also Bioware is working to get the patch out by the 16th of March.

I think it's pretty telling that, despite the overall tenor of discourse on this board, the vast majority who have taken the poll so far think the game will be good.

It'll be a Mass Effect game, and like every Mass Effect game, and shit even BioWare game from before, it will be a good game, that much is guarantee.
Will it blow the roof off gaming and be the best game of this year and the next? Unlikely, I don't believe BioWare has it in them anymore to fully go all out and make the gaming world pay attention, but at the end of the day it will be good.

I think it will be a good game. I also anticipate that it will get a high rating from crtics on metacritic but probably will end up with an average fan score due to the review bombings from haters who will probably not even play the game and thus they will probably drag the score down a bit.

I think it'll be a wonderful game that pays respect to the ME Trilogy, and brings a little something more to it that will make it stand out from its predecessors. This. I agree with this. I think it will be a great game, I may be overly-optimistic, but I think it'll pay a nice homage and respect to the ME Trilogy while being unique and having its' own identity.

Sometimes I wonder if some of the folks here are actually "fans." I do agree that if a person had no interest or thought this was a Titanic in the making, they would have bailed out a long time ago. I figure many just like to complain for the sake of complaining until the game releases. Some complaints are valid, but at times people just take it way too far. Doesn't change the way I feel either way! I'm already pre-ordered and ready to go for early access!

Of course, it's impossible to meet all of our varied expectations. It's less about pre-dumping on the game, more about seeing if others share your concerns and can help process stuff. Thanks to talking about it, I feel more optimistic about the game.

But as I said, most people here have valid concerns. There's nothing wrong with wanting a franchise you love to live up to your expectations. I just believe many of those concerns will likely be washed away once everybody has an opportunity to play the game.

Some seem like nitpicks due to not having the game. They'll look at a screenshot and try to find anything that they can criticize. Other concerns like zone design, crafting, CC, and such are well founded though so there are both criticisms made out of boredom and actual criticism and sometimes it can be difficult to separate these two types. But yeah sharing opinions is what this forum is about. Nobody should be trashed for their negative or positive feedback. We'll just have to wait until release for the baseless nitpicking to hopefully go away.

We'll just have to wait until release for the baseless nitpicking to hopefully go away. I think a lot of it is anxiety, nerves, and folks being tired of waiting for five years to play this game. You tend to start critiquing the most trivial aspects of a game out of sheer boredom and lack of access. I'm not really sure how anyone can have an opinion on world design, crafting, or CC as we haven't really seen any of them in detail. I guess we can criticize for a lack of exposure? From what we know about crafting, it's going to be the most in-depth crafting system in any BioWare game, so I hardly see what's wrong with that! MEA is suggested being larger than the entire Mass Effect trilogy, combined, and apparently even the smallest planet may dwarf the size of all of DAI, or something crazy like that. Of course, you have to take into consideration we'll be driving around in the Nomad, which can get up to 100 KM/H, so planets have to accommodate that speed. As far as the CC, as long as my Ryder doesn't come out ugly, which was often the case with DAI, I'll be happy! I agree that no one should be attacked for their views, even if they don't particularly make any sense. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, whether it is well-informed or not. I just believe the many positives to this game far outweigh the suggested negatives. We shall see though!

Any doubts I had were addressed when I asked for answers on twitter. Here's the reasons I've seen that I remember off the top of my head, take them as you will: Crafting: 1. They are focusing too much on it, who knows we might even be required to craft to get through the highest difficulty 2. As you said, not enough info, they say it's great and extensive, but haven't shown it off yet CC 1. Not shown it yet when creating one's character is a core aspect of this game. i personally am not too worried though. CC will be shown soon anyway. World design 1. Mostly due to the fact it's on frostbite engine and from what we've been shown, they used assets of DAI in MEA. You may have seen people referring it to "DAI in space." I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned anxiety. People just want this game and for their worries to go away and will criticize heavily until then.

Personally, I always thought what little "crafting" we had in Mass Effect was abysmal. I'm glad BioWare is actually fleshing out the system, and even providing us with unique and interesting ways of creating wacky and fun combinations for weapons. As far as whether crafting will be required for Insanity or not, maybe? In ME1, you couldn't do Insanity easily without decent gear and a high level character. It's not that it was "hard," but it took forever to kill anything. We already know that BioWare isn't going to do what they did in ME2, by giving all enemies armor and shields to increase the challenge. Health bars will remain static, so I don't believe it will be the long, drawn out sponge fights we had in the past. The gaming media got to see the Character Creator. From what I siphoned from various articles, they all seem to agree it's more or less the same setup that DAI had. There also apparently seems to be quite a few options with regard to hair, so that sounds promising! What's wrong with Frostbite 3? It's built for large, open world spaces. I didn't have any issue with the world building in DAI at all. My problem was the cookie cutter quests and ineffective use of the environment to create compelling gameplay. There were far too many collectibles and junk that just littered most of the maps. Reusing assets is not really an issue for me as long as the game feels and looks like Mass Effect. People have been making comparisons between DAI and MEA for the simple fact they are more open world experiences. One similarity doesn't make both properties identical as a result. That is nothing more than fallacy on the part of the paranoid or the wary.
