Hasn't the Mass Effect series or for that matter Bioware games in general always been kind of corny? What's wrong with corny humor anyway so long as it's done well? If it's only corny-ass humor and awful childish insults every 2 minutes then it's a problem. Same thing in the middle of the Citadel DLC where the constant humor slowly turned from cutesy to ear-grating.

Part of me wants a Conrad-like character, but I know in my little heart that there will never be another. Not truly.

The way you say it it's like Andromeda looks like Lili child of geos. Say hello to Sara Ryder:

What baffled me about the Peebee loyalty mission was how weak and out of place the dialog was. The way Sara was talking seemed like she was having a walk in the park. There wasn't any sense of urgency or suspense that at any moment they can all be killed. It all seemed far too casual.

Maybe this Ryder chose a lot of Casual options in dialogue and, thereby, defaulted to a Casual personality?

I doubt this would impact during auto dialog sequences.

With what the devs have said about this being a more "lighthearted" than the previous Mass Effect games, that is probably going to be the tone of the entire game. Bioware has a history of overreacting to criticism and fan feedback, and there was no shortage of criticism about ME3 being too dark and plenty of praise for the Citadel DLC's lightheartedness.

BioWare forgot that ME and ME2 had a good balance of seriousness and humor while at the same time having a good portion of emotional neutrality so the player can make up their feels like those old Sci Fi movies and shows that the ME series took cues from. If only they remembered those games in a more tone based context.

I don't think we've seen enough of the game to draw that conclusion, but I am a bit concerned about how the popularity of the Citadel DLC may have impacted the development of Andromeda. All this talk about how this is a more light-hearted adventure than the Shepard trilogy, makes me a bit worried that it might be an entire game with the same tone as that DLC. As much as I liked the Citadel DLC, I thought the humor was at times over the top and that the DLC would have been better if that had been dialed back a notch or two. Having seen the loyalty mission footage, I have similar fears. Unlike most, I absolutely loathed the Citadel DLC and would hate to see Andromeda descend into a similarly goofy winkfest.

The characters at times felt like exaggerated Tumblr fan comic versions of themselves. I'd hate to see an entire game with a similar tone.

It was nice to see them cut lose and have the time of their lives, but it went too far in a few places fighting Cat-6 while dropping B-movie one liners and adolescent every couple seconds. It's less of a fight and more of a game of laser tag.

It's tough to say at this point, but based on some of the trailers we've seen I get the impressions the whole game won't be like that. Seems like there might be a since of urgency in some places. ME3 was dark because it needed to be but I would prefer something not as dark in Andromeda.
