It's an Epilogue to the story, we had an ending and then got this to explain the next part. Which probably might not have happend if DA:I had not done well.

See I played DAI when the GOTY edition was out so I didn't really have to put up with the wait. I imagine those who had to wait were massively pissed off though.

From what I remember it wasn't long after they announced the DLC that they released it. Certainly when the game came out there wasnt any evidence that there would be more.

I think that final scene occurs some time after the Inquisitor returns to Halamshiral. They didn't just show up wearing a new outfit and reveal to the world that they cut their glove budget in half.
That would be a YUUUUUUUGE dick move, especially to their loved ones.

That would be a YUUUUUUUGE dick move, especially to their loved ones. Either that, or BioWare just picked a default outfit to make a one-armed model of... because otherwise they'd have to make one-armed models of every possible armor set out there, and you know how they get when there's corners to cut. I may be too cynical, and you are right and I'm not, but that was my first thought.

I don't follow. Why would they need one-armed models of various armour sets if losing the Anchor ends the Inquisitor's adventuring career?

So the Inquisitor could appear at the hearing with whatever armor he/she had equipped at the time. I understood that you assumed in your previous post that the appearance at the hearing does not happen directly after the confrontation with Solas. I think it does, and that the armor set is a different one because they made only a single one-armed Inquisitor model. Sorry if I didn't express myself clearly.

^ I think both are true. The arm-losing incident was a traumatic physical event. I find it hard to believe that the Inquisitor goes back, immediately dons the red coat formal attire, and then addresses the council. The entire place would have been in chaos with the reveal that the Inquisition had infiltrators and so on. It's reasonable to assume there was a gap of a couple of days, at the very least.
As for the model, yes, they did only make one single-armed model. That is a resources concern and not something to be cynical about. It is practical. They had to make an one-armed model of the formal attire for each race and gender, so that is eight models for one single outfit. The game files actually have a separate model for the normal formal attire (two arms) and another for the single arm. They had to make it just for those final scenes. It makes perfect sense that they went with this idea.
Now, what I don't understand is why the one-armed formal attire could not also have been incorporated into the wardrobe color selection. I think that is an unfortunate failing.
The single biggest problem I have with the whole arm thing is that you don't get to emote about it at all, according to your roleplay, or have your friends or partner express concern.

I don't see how Trespasser would have fit within the base game. Storywise or fitting-on-older-consoles-wise.
More upset that we never got a Weisshaupt DLC. Next time, please?

Fair. DAI had an ending. Trespasser was post-ending dlc not ending dlc.

Fair... I mean, yeah it was a bit unfair that it couldn't also be released on the last gen platforms like the rest of the DLC for DAI, even though I do understand why. That didn't personally effect me, but I know some were angry about it. But no, it was a great DLC and worth the money..I think, if I'm going to buy DLC, I prefer there to be some story/plot of substance there to expand the game. I liked that it is an epilogue with some major story revelations to it.

I don't mind having the "real ending" in a DLC. What I do mind is that this ending strips everything from the Inquisitor. I liked the ending of the main game, but hated how things turned out in Trespasser. You may win against the Qunari, but you lose against Solas, Ferelden and Orlais and the Chantry, and you lose your arm and your cool magical extra. I feel the Inquisitor lost in Trespasser, and I do not care for it.

It's no more unfair than Throne of Bhaal or Hordes of the Underdark. The base game tells a complete, if bland, story while setting up threads for later installments. Trespasser gave us another adventure, with the same cast. Again, exactttly like Throne of Bhaal.

I kinda like that I have a choice on whether to stop the story while Inky's still got their arm or after the bomb is dropped with Solas. One way or another, the next Dragon Age game is going to have an Inquisitor short an arm if they're mentioned. Is it any different from Arrival in ME2? No really, I'm not sure if there's a difference. Is it like having a teammate locked in a dlc?

That's such a simplistic line of thinking. "Locked", bah. I'd also argue a little dishonest since it's very clear BW ran out of time near DAI's ending, thus why the final mission was so shallow.

well it's not the "real" ending. trespasser is another story, it's an קpilogue that conclude the inquisition story really well. but the ending of the main game story was defeating the elder one and saving thedas, trespasser is another story which they pulled resources at and no reason they shouldn't charge money for it. good thing that guy didn't complain that "awakening" was an expension and not part of the main game in DAO

I confess I can buy any game, dlc, edition I want so maybe I am bias. I however do think people feel "disadvantaged" very fast and "entitled" to a lot.
I do not think people are curtailed without the dlc, yes you get a far more detailed, fleshed out story with the dlc. Without any dlc DAI is a game where you get a lot of bang for you buck compared to so many other games.
Read the books and you get even more backdrop stories to the game, should that be ingame to and are the books solely money grab?
Should we be entitled if we bought a cinema ticket for the first Potter movie to watch the rest for free? Or should we demand to avoid that, they made that movie in one go and we sit in the cinema for a whole week? Where does reasonability begin and end?
Yes, I think consumers must be vigilant and critical. EA shurely made bad consumer practices. But no I think DAI is a honestly rounded up game without any dlc's for its length and money.

I wouldn't have minded because i thought it was really good,i'm happy to pay for DLC if it's fun, entertaining or adds something to the story, which i felt Trespasser did, i bought Jaws of Hakkon and The Descent to (and Citadel, Leviathan and From Ashes for ME3) so i'm happy to pay for extras. What i do object to was having to buy a PS4 to play it! Ok, i usually only upgrade my Playstations to play a particular game, and i'll get more PS4 games in time (Mass Effect Andromeda? DA4?) but i feel that perhaps it was a mistake to have brought the game out on PS3 and then having no way to "finish" the game for PS3 players.

In fact, Trespasser is basically the same DLC as Witch Hunt was. Go track down the companion who disappeared at the end of the game, and watch them go through an Eluvian. No one complained that Witch Hunt was the "real ending", lol.
