I wonder why people even make this comparison. Ryder and Shepard are completely different types. Shepard is made around the idea of being the most badass soldier in the (old) galaxy, while Ryder is more of an explorer type - or so I understand things. So it's almost a foregone conclusion that Shepard would win in a battle of arms. However, Shepard's stupid as a brick, and while I haven't seen anything of Ryder yet, it's really very, very easy to win against Shepard in a battle of wits. it's sad but it's true. Head canon all you want to, it is obvious that Shepard is, on rails, as stupid as possible while still competent. Not his/her fault, written that way. That said, all of the leadership of all alien races - dumber than Shepard. So.... Essentially you have a universe of idiots.

Ryder wins because shepard is gone and legend. Well if you wanna go there (post ending): -Destroy, can be dead so n/a -Destroy, can be alive, strongly hinted to be recoverable, some hints that he'd still be able to do things he did before; so see my comment above -Control, he's (if you consider him still in transhuman existence) a Reaper intelligence. Pretty sure it'd be at least super hard for Ryder at any imaginable level to handle that -Synthesis, he's (if you consider him still in posthuman existence) a spread essence throughout a galaxy. Pretty sure it'd be at least super hard for Ryder at any imaginable level to handle that. So if in whatever sense, we can make Shepard a galaxy, um, good luck Ryder? We are Ryder There is greatness in us. We're the Pathfinder. It's time to become legend and by the looks of it, we're pretty badass. Not hatin on shepard. Remember, you can fight like a krogan, run like a leopard, but you'll never be better than Commander Shepard. except Ryder. He has the potential to be Shepard's equal. He is the protagonist now. Plus our father is N7 and maybe even knew shep.

Problem is, even if if ignore the fact that SHepherd is the galaxies greatest war hero (and avid shopper on the citadel)
Shepherd looked the part, he looked strong and physically capable, dude even headbutted a krogan.
Ryder looks like a little bitch to be honest. I mean ffs I have more muscle mass than him from what we have seen in trailers. If Ryder tried headbutting Drack, he would break his own neck. Maybe in later games Ryder will beef up and actually do some strength training. But right now it looks as though in a physical confrontation even I could take down Ryder.

Shepard.
If Ryder was more badass than Shepard, Ryder would have been tapped to be the first human Spectre.

When?
I mean, at the beginning of their respective game sagas, Shepard crushes Ryder, no question. Experienced N7 trooper and Spectre prospect vs relatively green rookie who only did one tour with the Alliance and maybe had some training from daddy.
But at the end of Andromeda, Ryder is going to have much more experience, customized equipment, and be linked to a special AI that apparently gives them extensive combat assistance. That should even the odds, albeit I still give it to Shepard.
