And I don't mean in a player vs player or MP like situation. If that were the case I'd say Ryder due to unlimited access to skills. I mean if Shepard & Ryder were to meet in the story for whatever reason and were to battle it out, who do you think would come out on top? I think Shepard would for me. He/She just seems like the character that no matter the odds always seems to come out on top. Anyway off to work now(^◇^

Kind of a loaded question considering we already spent 3 games with Shepard and have yet to get to know either of the twins.

Shepard is older and more experienced than Ryder, so it would be an unfair advantage imo, but Ryder could surprise you. It's a tough choice.

Pre ME2 I would say it is a tie, after Cerberus heavy cyber body upgrades I would say Shepard would be stronger.

Shepard is an N7 with 8 years or so of military experience under his or her belt, and is pretty much considered humanity's best soldier. Ryder in comparison is a rookie.
Even ME1 Shepard would crush Ryder. No contest.

Really?
This thing again? Why must people compare their current protagonist with the previous one?
Hawke vs Warden Inquisitor vs Hawke vs Warden Revan vs Hero of Tython the Exile vs Revan
Obviously, in any poll you make, the older character will win, because most people find it more comfortable to stick with the old rather than accept the new.
The rest of the discussion will be people listing the list each one's accomplishments and arguing with each other that, their noted skills, their leadership qualities.
The truth is, the one who'll win, if that event comes to pass, is the one you're playing. It won't matter if one has better training than the other, their stated skills and abilities, or their accomplishments. The characters are not automatically better than one another because of what they accomplished.
Every character reacts to the situation they've been put in. If Ryder has been put in front of the trilogy instead of Shepard, he/she would do the exact same thing and become a legend, because it would still be your character. What changes are the circumstances that each find themselves in.
So, it's not fair to me, comparing one to another.
Take Inquisition, for example. After all the shit you've done with Hawke in the second game, to become the most important figure in Thedas, by the time the events of the third starts, the Inquisitor takes that place almost immediately. Because they're your new protagonist. Hawke downgrades to a supporting role and can even be killed with no consequences whatsoever to the future of Thedas.

Isn't Ryder 22?
Shepard is like 27/28 in ME1 and N7 designated...he could crush Ryder. At least in the beginning of the game that is

But they're still not N7 or a Spectre, or has dealt with any extreme circumstances as many times as Shepard has. Training is all well and good but real world experience is more important and we can assume Ryders don't have much since they were still only Alliance recruits. This could change in the future of course but anything other than a Shepard win wouldn't make sense right now.

Yes Ryder was not N7, and I don't know which program they were a part of, but it was damn impressive since they are a tech expert a biotic and a soldier. Ryder can focus on something from a gameplay perspective, but from a lore perspective they know all 3 disciplines.

Commander Shepard; N7, first human Spectre, humanity's greatest soldier, Saviour of the Citadel, defeated the Collectors and saved the Galaxy from the Reapers.
Ryder; Pathfinder, scouts out new planets.
No contest at all, Shepard and co. would crush Ryder and co. in seconds.

I know, but the fact that Shepard was chosen out of all humanity to become a Spectre places him above any training title and suggests even in ME1 he was already the best humanity had to offer. After Cerberus gave him upgrades? It's not even fair anymore.

But Shepard is a special forces undead cyborg with three games under their belt. And Ryder's pretty green. We'll see what happens later on.

Shepard easily. Maybe that will change once we go through the game as Ryder but obviously most would pick Shepard at this point.

As we don't know what class Shepard is or which time we are talking about (pre-me1, me1, me2, me3, me3+600) and we don't know what Ryder really can do or if we are talking about starting Ryder, middlegame ryder or End game Ryder it is hard to tell. But if we are going to make it fit in the universe it has to be before the AI left, and that gives us a time period of either pre-me1, me1 or me2. And since we know that shepard is not in alliance space under me2 it is either pre-me1 or me1 that we can use. And this make it pretty easy to say that Shepard would win. No matter when in this period we are talking about, Shepard is better trained and more experience compared to Ryder. But then Alec Ryder will come over and beat Shepard because he hurt his kid. So it is a draw. So I want a third option: DRAW

There is always a lucky punch.
That is literally the only shot Ryder has. Miss that one-in-a-million, and it is lights out for the kid.
Factor in combat experience, physical prime status, cybernetic reinforcement, and the intangible that is Shepard... It is not a fair match.
Also, it is a silly comparison, that I guess was inevitable and to be expected, but such a yawner... Obvious answer is obvious. Doesn't matter how long the Ryder arc continues - the stakes will never be as high again as Shepard's were, and all of this happens concurrently.
