Anyway, we're not fighting Reapers. So what was the purpose of the post you made? To point out the fact that Shepard was never fighting an actual Reaper (Destroyer or Sovereign) with an assault rifle, but in the footage to this you see Ryder shooting it in weak parts which ultimately kills it after you shoot it in the head when it's open (I'd assume). Shepard was not fighting the Reaper with Kalros without Kalros and all he did was attract it to destroy the Reaper for him. On Rannoch all he does is direct the fleets firing -- that's my point.

Shepard does kill a Tresher Maw with small arms, so there's precedent. Also, the narrator said it was a high-level boss, so it's not like you will go and demolish it with a Avenger I at level 2. You fight it on foot as an experienced Pathfinder with optimized equipment, so it makes some sense.

Yes, point taken! I know it's all nitpicky but when I saw this I was just bummed it wasn't going to be Big Car vs Big Monster like a Godzilla fight. It looks more epic than simply firing on a Thresher Maw so I think it's a missed opportunity to force you to go toe-to-toe against it as Ryder and his squad instead of the epic, featured vehicle they've boasted so much about. While it would make more sense to fight a giant enemy in the safety of your tank, I have a hard time believing that would be the more fun option. I'm kinda expecting to see a conversation in Andromeda where Ryder asks why they don't have any guns, though. It really is too obvious an oversight to not be pointed out. Maybe for a story mission where you first meet one of these ultra high-level mecha thresher maws, and you're forced to run from it instead of actually fighting it, since it's currently too strong. Then you get back to the Tempest and lay into Cora or someone for not having equipment for dealing with things like this. Then again, the Mako is a military vehicle, and the Ai isn't strictly military. Maybe that's the reason? They do have weapons, granted, but here in the US, I can buy guns and probably grenades in some states, but I could never get my hands on a tank.

This is exactly where we needed i t. Why does the Nomad not have a gun?Because what's to stop players from just rolling up to enemy outposts from a distance and just hammer it with cannons and machine gun fire? Arming the Nomad would create too much of a crutch from a design perspective, because a lot of players would rather stay inside their tank and blast the enemies to kingdom come. This is not the first time in the series we've fought a giant enemy. The Thresher Maw and Human Reaper from ME2, and the Destroyer Reaper from ME3. Do you have to complain about everything? Honestly in ME1 I just plowed through armies of geth.

Does the Reaper embryo from ME2 count as a Reaper? It was probably the same size as that "Architect" thing from the 3 Worlds video, and we took that down with small arms. Shooting at weak-points. More limited mobility, though.

Makes no sense lore-wise to not have an armed nomad but makes perfect sense for gameplay. So, instead of being stupidly lazy the designers could have developed areas where the nomad would be useless due to terrain or environmental hazards and have enemies there. Or give intelligent enemies a modicum of common sense and let them have defences the nomad would have trouble with, like heavy weapons, ditches, barriers that can withstand the nomad's gun, mines, placing your base in a defensible position and not somewhere a vehicle can drive up to with no problems etc. You know, like real life. But it was easier to have enemies sit around, lightly armed on a flat plain and make lore breaking decisions to save them any actual work.

That's just it. They weren't firing at a precise spot. They hit the thing, it fell over. At that point it appears to be destroyed. Shepard says its weak point is when its about to fire its beam of doom. That's incorrect. The rounds hit the reaper before it could open it door to use the beam of doom. If the firing chamber is the weak spot, why didn't it fall over like the first time when it was fired on? Only after the reaper and Shepard can kiss each other, that the thing falls over. What's funny is the reaper fires its beam of doom vertically at Shepard instead of horizontally. Sorry, but I didn't understand any of this. Anyway, we're not fighting Reapers. They may be huge but these are more like mechanical Thresher Maws and that's the comparison I'm making; Why oh why, would I ever step out on foot in ME1 to fire on a Thresher Maw? Why couldn't the Nomad just have a bloody cannon if it turns out we're going to fight huge Techno Maws. Oh also in ME2 during Grunt's loyalty mission you kill a thresher maw on foot. Well, you do if you are good. 😋

It's not like we knew there would be giant mechanical thresher maws, to begin with. Have we seen anything that big in the OT? Thresher maws were big, but I don't think they were that big.

Because COOL.
If you don't get it, sorry bud. Did you play the last three games? They tend heavily towards the cinematic. Nay, epic. Realistically, against a thing like that, you'd call in air support or artillery, or an orbital strike. But would that be as much fun? Hey-all no!

So since they couldn't give us an actual thresher maw they gave us a mechanical copy and call it a whole new galaxy?

The difference is unlike ME1, Exploration makes up a huge bulk of the gameplay in ME:A. It also really wasn't much of a choice in ME1 either. There was no reason to get out of the Mako on planets to fight enemies on foot. No reason, unless you wanted to make the fights harder. You roll up to an outpost, shoot the shit outta enemies with your Mako, and then enter the inside of the hideout. Not arming the Nomad was a wise decision on part of Bioware. Actually, you got more XP for killing enemies on foot. Of course, that just meant that you could strip the enemies down to minimum health from mako, then get out and finish them off on foot. Except the squishy ones because they died very quickly, so if you really wanted to milk the game for most XP, you would only need the Mako's help with geth armatures and Colossi (edit: also Maws). Just a fun fact. I agree that Bioware was right to not give the Nomad any guns though. Correct, I did forget about that. But like you said, you can whittle down their health with the Mako, and finish them off on foot. Which is basically what I did.

No need vanguard ryder and Drack can handle it. Yes!!! so much yes Vanguard all day everyday - i tore through everything in ME3 as vanguard Shep, so damn fun plus u feel unstoppable. Side note: If Shepherd can take down the thresher maw and his minions EASILY on foot, without even using heavy weapons. Then there is no reason why Ryder can't win here with heavy and the help of his squad or crew up in the tempest. We don't know the scenario in which this fight takes place, or how far away our allies are.

Dunno, I'd just like if they could start showing restraint instead of going even "cooler". I was already like "naaah." when Shepard slid down the metal surface in ME3's intro... it's just too over-the-top for one man even if we did survive Suicide Mission (with a team) and Shepard died before. Show restraint, don't throw characters into huge, epic moments too often or it becomes Marvel-y and lame.

I like the Borderlands approach. You can use the vehicle weapons instead of getting out and doing the hard work yourself, but with much less XP. Your call.
But since the theme of the game is exploration, it's not entirely shocking that the main exploration vehicle is unarmed.
