maybe they get new outfits through paid dlc, don't know about weapons, how can be sure that they bring the right wapons to the right missions?

I can't even be bothered to make a sarcastic comment about this, not being able to change guns AND appearance is just a shitty design choice, especially since it makes all their games which did allow at least a little customization look better than their new game. Regression is a bad thing you know. Compared to DA:O where all the companion gear and weapons came with stats, this is just like...damn.

I think this is the first truly negative thing I've heard in awhile that will impact gameplay in a bad way. It's a blow, but a minor one.

Not changing armour is fine with me, I find playing dress-up with companions too much trouble in DA:I.
Not changing guns is plain strange though. It makes no sense, what we had in ME2/ME3 worked really well, why change it?!

Is that a direct quote from the codex or stated in the dialog/ text of the games? Honestly though here is the thing: I am just very uncomfortable acting like an elitist keyboard warrior and telling BioWare how they should be writing their own game. That we know it better then they do. This is the...height of arrogance. Its bordering on pure silliness. Its armchair quarterbacking pure and simple when the vast majority of us have A. never had a job in the game industry. B. don't even understand the industry that well. C. don't have a job at BioWare. And D. despite it all I have not seen anything that explicitly says that Peebee can't just go around in a breath mask. Which brings me to point number 2 that is really bothering me about this 'armchair quaterbacking'. Correct me if I am wrong but we have not actually seen Peebee wear a breath mask in a zero atmopshere environment. And also correct me if I am wrong but I do not remember that happening in ME 2 or 3 either. Maybe the Geth ship actually...either way though people just seem to be jumping to conclusions of: Bad BioWare, bad bad BioWare, naughty BioWare, look at how stupid they are, what tools they are, we have to spend all day having circular arguments because they can't put helmets on people!...when we do not even know, for one hundred percent sure, that someone would even need a helmet in the situations where we have seen Peebee running around in a breath mask. We are judging logic here, not game design, you hardly need to be an "elitist keyboard warrior" to point out dumb design decisions.
We saw Peebee walking without full helmet and armor on a *volcanic planet*, do you know what the atmosphere of a place like this is going to feel like? It will likely be enough to boil your skin off due to sheer toxicity, not to mention heat.
Environmental hazards are also going to be a recurring theme in the game, radiation, heat, etc. Does this sounds like something that is logical to go into wearing this outfit?
Biotics. Mass Effect fields have been shown to create fields to protect people from all sorts of things. Even keep air in (the Leviathan DLC) and be sustained for a long term under constant threat and bombardment from a lot of small, fast moving, objects, at the same time (The Suicide Mission in ME 2). And yes. Fine. Logic. But each universe in fiction tends to have its own internal logic and constraints. And until someone can demonstrate to me one hundred percent that Peebee running around with a breath mask violates the internal logic that is consistant with the ME universe, I am not willing to go and poo poo on BioWare for being 'horrible writers who violate their own lore'.

So if the asari can wear the belly button outfit, can my Ryder wear the same as well? Or how about my female Ryder wear running shoes with shorts and a tank top that says armor is for wimps while my male Ryder can wear flip flops, shorts, raybans, and a t-shirt?

Should we blame the idiots who bought the alternate appearance DLCs? Worth every penny. If you say so. But if you buy stuff, they make more of it.

This is still an Rpg game right? Because its beginning to look very linear in all the wrong ways. No control over squadmates powers or weapons!? What were they thinking 😑

I approve of that choice. Customizing your player character should be enough for scratching that itch and expressing yourself. Squadmates should be their own characters, not dolls to play dress up with. And at some point all the customization in conjunction with crafting just gets too much. Ryder: PB we are going to a frozen world, put some proper armor on and a helmet so you won't freeze to death PB: No, i won't die Ryder: i know you won't, because you won't step outside of the ship

If you say so. But if you buy stuff, they make more of it. If they make more then I'll keep buying. If the vanilla game is large enough and grand enough to constitute $60, I'll gladly pay for appearance dlcs. Games have been barely affected by inflation and cheaper in some regards compared to NES games. If optional dlc helps fill that budget then so be it.

So basically we have cutscene avenger when we should absolutely not have one, GeeGee bioware. As for not changing armor I'm okay with that. I just hope that we get a retex at the end on the loyalty missions like in ME2. If they add retexs as paid DLC I'll laugh cuz we know we can retex in the frostbite engine. Sadly, changing meshes is too hard (at least in DA:I) so we're stuck with very unimmersive outfits

Not every negative thread needs to get lost in the skepticism thread. Best to keep specifics titled and separate so people can more easily search for discussions

From the Codex: The shielding afforded by kinetic barriers does not protect against extremes of temperature, toxins, or radiation.
And yes, we have seen cases of that in ME2 and to a lesser extent ME3. That's why people are u0pset it is happening yet again.

One of the things I loved about DAI was crafting a slightly better staff/sword/bow with slightly better stats, and then equipping it and giving my old weapon to my next favourite squadmate. Same with armour. Incremental improvements. This is just bad news, and there's no excuse for it. Meh I hated that personally

Dragon Age: Inquisition in space ? No, ME:A starting to look like Dragon Age 2 in space. indeed! I am angry & sad due that Poor decision by bioware. Seems that it don't want to do extra animation job to make customization possible

I'm willing to bet telemetry from ME2 and ME3 indicated most people never changed their squadmates weapons or armour. We are the nerds who do that stuff, not your average player. Probably this makes sense from a project management / business perspective.
If that's true, it's a matter of making peace with the idea that the priority here is not to make the best game they're able, even if it's economically suboptimal.

One thing that really bugs me about this is how on one hand they ignore the lore about hazardous environments, yet on the other make every planet have a hazard.

This is another fucking ridiculous decision which begin with unarmed Tempest and Nomad. Is very stupid to have all these armor and weapons for collect by research but your squard mates can't use it! I would like to say you are fired to Bioware/EA employer who did that design decision and sent him deep into Amazon rainforest without much equipment and armed only with small knife!

I keep wondering what is even the point of the hazard mechanic, is it supposed to appeal to the five people that enjoyed No Man's Sky?... They had it in ME1...So.... Yeah, not about No Man's Sky. It's a traditional ME exploration mechanic.
