One thing that really bugs me about this is how on one hand they ignore the lore about hazardous environments, yet on the other make every planet have a hazard. this is non important thing to idiots in bioware. Only is important that main characters have all protection

One of the things I loved about DAI was crafting a slightly better staff/sword/bow with slightly better stats, and then equipping it and giving my old weapon to my next favourite squadmate. Same with armour. Incremental improvements. This is just bad news, and there's no excuse for it. Meh I hated that personally I don't really understand. What did you hate? If you create a better weapon for yourself why wouldn't you strengthen your squadmates by equipping them with the weapon you've just bettered?

I don't care about the weapons...whatever, it's cool.
I was hoping for DA:I kinda thing for Armor...or at least like they did it in ME3 where every squadmember could wear a proper hardsuit.

That's fucking ridiculous. I've been trying so hard not to fault anything about this game but this takes the cake. Only one outfit per squadmate and you can't change what weapon they use. Why? How does that add anything to the game. Probably because they fit specific archetypes in terms of gameplay this time around and are more power-based vs weapon based? I also bet we will get alternate outfit packs to fill in the gap for like 4 bucks a piece.

So in the Kit blogs for the characters they were releasing, in the part that says "favorite weapon" they meant literally fav weapon, because that's the only one they're gonna be using in the entire game.

I'm willing to bet telemetry from ME2 and ME3 indicated most people never changed their squadmates weapons or armour. We are the nerds who do that stuff, not your average player. Probably this makes sense from a project management / business perspective. If that's true, it's a matter of making peace with the idea that the priority here is not to make the best game they're able, even if it's economically suboptimal. I barely changed equipment in Dragon Age: Origins and the first Mass Effect. Except on Insanity difficulty where it was necessary.

Weird design choice. I expected them to atleast let us chance weapons, and then appearance in the seleect squad menu. In Mass Effect 3 they had like 3 different outfits each or something. Not a huge deal breaker, but still a bit dissapointing. The positive - Won't have to craft armor and weapons for so many people.

I can deal with not being able to change companions armor but not being able to change their weapon... ah, man, that sucks.

Ugh. Hearing on the IGN video Mac (?) talking about how they want to take the lore into consideration and all that jazz, but we're still saddled with midriffs and face masks in hostile environments... This is Mac we're talking about here.

Such as? I really don't think this is as big of a deal as people are making it out to be. Nothing is a "big deal", but death by a thousand cuts is still death.
My overall impressions of ME:A can be summed up with the words generic and unexciting, with a sprinkling of some annoyances on top. I was hoping for more than just decent or average. Oh well. *shrug*
Maybe you should actually ya know wait for the game to be released. It could blow you away.

while armor is disapointing but me 2 and 3 didn't have much without dlc/mods anyway. and really as long as the appearance dlcs are cheap I don't mind paying for em.
and weapons I can think of a few good reasons why, starting with how some weapons had drawbacks that didn't affect npcs which included squadmates and the dlc weapons in me 2 were unaffected by the damage reduction sqaudmates got on higher difficulties, both can mess up the diffculty curve which can reduce enjoyment for some people. locked weapons avoids both those things. and it keeps people from wasting high value mods and augments that don't help npcs much.

Of course, limiting player options is always the best solution, especially in an RPG...
Considering how much you can customize your Ryder in the game, maybe that was one of the trade offs they had to make? Because you can really, really, reallllly customize your Ryder. Far more then Shepard in the trilogy in terms of who they are (your dialog choices) and the gameplay choices you can make (mix and matching your weapons, mix and matching your powers). And that is really what an RPG is about. Making choices for your character. Is stupid to me have that much customization and research options only for main character

My guess is their kits are tailor made for certain weapons only. So Drack using a shotgun with his kit, hes a close up bruiser by all accounts, so it does make sense vs a sniper rifle. As far as not changing out weapons...my guess is because of the crafting mechanics.

This is another fucking ridiculous decision which begin with unarmed Tempest and Nomad. Is very stupid to have all these armor and weapons for collect by research but your squard mates can't use it! I would like to say you are fired to Bioware/EA employer who did that design decision and sent him deep into Amazon rainforest without much equipment and armed only with small knife! Very good point. I guess I'm gonna research only the weapons my Rider uses. And the 1-2 weapons used by my favorite squad mates I guess? Anyways, looks like a lost opportunity.

WTF, Bioware?!
Fans have been complaining since ME2 about immersion-breaking companions who don't have proper armor and helmets. What benefit is there from having less customization options, and having the default outfit for some characters (Peebee) take you right out of the setting?

Is there any possible chance that the reason we cannot change squadmates' weapons because we can modify them so heavily? Could it be that the squadmate AI is just not advanced enough to be able to deal with the difference between a shotgun with laser shells, ME1-type overheating mechanic, heat-seeking plasma rounds, etc? It could be that in giving us the PC more choices that they had to limit choices for the squadmates.

That's one thing I don't get. Almost all of us having been asking for squad armor customization to return after they took it out in ME 2. I thought for sure after the DA team brought it back the ME team would follow suit.
