Maybe you should actually ya know wait for the game to be released. It could blow you away. Or just blow. Or just don't buy the game. Seems reasonable.

Always something... but I agree, that doesn't make a lick of sense, except they probably didn't want to make Angara, Krogan and Turian versions of all the armors. I mean, we know Frostbite can do it. That's another RPG feature out the window then...

while armor is disapointing but me 2 and 3 didn't have much without dlc/mods anyway. and really as long as the appearance dlcs are cheap I don't mind paying for em. Even in ME3 without DLC we still had a couple of options for each character, including something that lat least looked like armor. which is why it is disappointing but again it was never really focus in the first place so I'm personally not worried about it, if dlc has appearances I like I'll buy it if I find the price reasonable otherwise I'll cope and ask the add em by in 5 assuming we get a 5.

This is another fucking ridiculous decision which begin with unarmed Tempest and Nomad. Is very stupid to have all these armor and weapons for collect by research but your squard mates can't use it! I would like to say you are fired to Bioware/EA employer who did that design decision and sent him deep into Amazon rainforest without much equipment and armed only with small knife! Very good point. I guess I'm gonna research only the weapons my Rider uses. And the 1-2 weapons used by my favorite squad mates I guess? Anyways, looks like a lost opportunity. I been very happy in thinking that I will can made PeeBee a close combat sword fighter and Drack as heavy weapon fighter... now I am down!

Maybe is this one of reason why Bioware don't give us much of details about MEA before!

Pausing/giving orders in combat comes to mind... but the series as a whole, from ME has lost almost everything RPG: Non combat/social skills from ME1/2, lock picking/the hacking minigame from ME1/2, an actual inventory from ME1. I mean, sure, we get crafting now, but for that we loose gear management of our squad.

What can I say? In a game about exploring and shooting, I'd like characters to actually, you know, look like they are equipped to handle strange environments or get into a gunfight. As opposed to ready to spend an afternoon at the mall. And I'd rather not have to spend $5, $7, $10, or whatever additional amount EA decides they can squeeze out of people

If you say so. But if you buy stuff, they make more of it. If they make more then I'll keep buying. If the vanilla game is large enough and grand enough to constitute $60, I'll gladly pay for appearance dlcs. Games have been barely affected by inflation and cheaper in some regards compared to NES games. If optional dlc helps fill that budget then so be it. My point was more that buying appearance DLC legitimized the concept. If the ME2 appearance DLCs had failed, we wouldn't be seeing them this time around. Would we be getting something like DAI's system instead if appearance packs had bombed? That's unknowable. But since the appearance DLCs were cheap and profitable, it's understandable that Bio found it hard to give them up even though they make the game worse.

Do anyone like me thinking about cancel of preorder due this with weapons & armors?! No. I was expecting it with armour it's disappointing about weapons. We should be able to change within class at least but it's the first bit of news I've seen that's really bothered me and I know I'm still going to enjoy the game.

Ok, translation: You won't be able to change qualities of companion armor you can only change how companions look same as with ME3. You won't be able to change the weapon TYPES that your companions use and how MANY weapons they use or change their MELEE weapon, same as ME3. You will still be able to switch their weapons as in swap one type of shotgun for another.

Dragon Age: Inquisition in space ? No, ME:A starting to look like Dragon Age 2 in space. At least in DA2, we could swap their weapons (Bianca excepted), and give commands. IIRC, orders are out in MEA as well. So, no controlling armour, weapons, or tactics. A very strange tactical setup.

WTF, Bioware?! Fans have been complaining since ME2 about immersion-breaking companions who don't have proper armor and helmets. What benefit is there from having less customization options, and having the default outfit for some characters (Peebee) take you right out of the setting? I don't know if it'll make this easier to swallow, but even if ME:A had copied the DAI system, there's no reason to think that this would have made them change their approach to the appearances. We'd probably just have ended up with a lot more ways for PeeBee to not wear a helmet.

The sheer sloppiness of this game is astounding. it is difficult to imagine that it's been in production for 5 years. it looks and sounds like a rushed up with tons of cut corners.

Not even surprised. I knew there would be something major in gameplay mechanics we learn last minute that puts a giant shadow over all other expanded customization and RPG elements they brought back after ME2/DA2 backlash.
This sucks. The game has way too big of a weapon selection to waste like this. Why even buy the inevitable DLC weapon packs if only Ryder is gonna be using 1-3 of them for the most part? This will also undercut the purpouse and need of whole game economy if we're going down from 7 characters needing upgraded guns & arsenal to literally just 1.

I did spend a lot of time in DA:I gathering materials to craft up-to-date armor and weapons for all 9 of my companions
And in ME:1 it was a pain juggling weapons and armors for companions there, too
I may sound kind of "glass half-full" but maybe this will make the game better since you won't waste time crafting and juggling equipment and actually explore and enjoy the story?
