Picked up XCOM2 a few days ago at half price (sorry, Andromeda), and I have been binging on it, beating it for the first time just about now (Veteran difficulty). I really, really like it! I am a bit of a fan of the series, all the way from the original xcom, and this is IMO the tightest game so far: a lot of mechanics have been preserved but streamlined, the stategical layer has been infused with some welcome randomness, the aliens' progression feels organic and its pace also feels just about right, and the turn-based action is fast and furious - I even ended up liking the turn limit on most missions, as it forced me to use all the abilities at my disposal! Most of the aliens have very interesting designs and abilities, which require some strategizing, and all available classes are powerful and balanced, and can synergize well with each other. And the best feature of them all: you can save your carefully customized soldiers in a character pool, or even create new ones from scratch, so that they might drop into successive playthroughs! Not everything is great of course; I didn't much care for the doom countdown mechanic (I prefer to turtle along, after all ), I wish psionics were more viable in the early game, and the narrative starts strong but tapers quite a bit off (then again, who plays this game for it's narrative?), but I do see myself going back to it soon, and trying to beat it at a higher difficulty. And with a big DLC on the way in a couple of months, I might be leading the resistance for a little longer still!

Try Long War and ABetterAdvent 2.0 mods As for games, damn this is the best RTS game that i've ever played since AoE2 9:58 for the best part

Great review. I have the two preceding games, but have never played them. Would you consider it majorly beneficial to play them first? Or would you consider XCOM2 to be so good that you could go back and play the earlier ones later? (Bearing in mind I came to Mass Effect via PS3, so started with ME2) I've had Hitman on my PS4 for a year, and had never got past the training mission. I had a blitz this week and finished it yesterday, and had a really great time. Some of the AI is utterly dumb, but for the most part it's pretty sharp and you have to be as sneaky as John Turturro in Mr Deeds. I also have all of the earlier Hitman games but hadn't played them either, though I think I will now - Blood Money at the very least. I used to joke that I had become a professional hitman when I met people from school - Martin Q Blank is one of my absolute favourite film characters, and I looked a little like John Cusack when we were both younger. As it stands too much hair has gone down the plughole and I now shave my head irl, but I'm thinking the beard might have to go too!

As it stands too much hair has gone down the plughole and I now shave my head irl, but I'm thinking the beard might have to go too! My suggestion would be to dive into XCOM2 right away - with the caveat that I am still enjoying it, so I might be a bit biased The Quality of Life changes alone make it a much more enjoyable experience. The previous XCOM is a pretty solid game, but it turns into a bit of a slog past the midpoint, and the stategical layer is very bipolar: you will either spiral into defeat, or you will make it over the hump and trivialize it for the rest of the game. XCOM2 addresses both weaknesses: there are turn limits on most missions, so you have to be daring and use your soldiers well; furthermore, the aliens tend to be more interesting to fight, as they all have different strengths and weaknesses you need to plan for. Conversely, the strategical layer is random enough that it requires a small amount of planning, different each time. This one takes place some 20 years after the previous game, so if you haven't played that one, there will be a few headscratching moments but nothing as bad as starting with ME2 I think. Though the plot hinges on its connection to the previous game, it won't affect your ability to play this one - the plot will play itself out as you advance the narrative by progressing through the game. ... and finally, this is how you interrogate aliens this time around; a lot more interesting that waiting for the lab rats to finish their job, right?

I'm still mostly playing Mass Effect these days, with some Mass Effect mixed in here and there, but tonight I thought I'd take a short break and play some Mass Effect instead for once.

Saints Row: Gat out of hell was free on PS+ a while back and I love it! It's like comedy Infamous and they have silly challenges like this (frat boy bashing) and this (reducing a condemned souls time in hell by abusing them) It is utterly utterly ridiculous!

Started Shadow of Mordor GOTY as it was uber cheap in a 24-h psn deal thing. I played it at EGX before it was released and quite enjoyed it, I outlasted my friends before they died at that time so its not too hard to pick up, but now I'm playing I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm enjoying listening to all the banter between the orcs etc I also have Witcher 3 started, and DAI, but I'd rather pewpew than choppy choppy with a sword so I've been doing the Destiny 2 beta the past couple of days. I need to play a bit more ME3 though, I was down to 80% the other day, and I still have 161 UR to get!

Regret getting this game and putting over 20 hours into it. Don't know what everyone who praises this game as the best thing ever are on. Games need other things then great graphics and story to be good. And yes, pew pew is more fun then chop chop. Unless we're talking Dark Souls series, chop suey is pretty good in that one.

Just for fun I started up the old Dragon Age : Origins yesterday and I was totally hooked from the start, this game truly have aged with grace and it's more than just nostalgia that keeps me playing, it's a real master piece.
Must have done 5-6 playthroughs back in the day and now it's time for one more, meaning that I won't have much time for much ME3 in the coming months.
This game really makes me remember the good old days when Biovar were capable of developing high quality games.

Just finished Watch Dogs 2 and surprisingly i enjoyed it.Haven't enjoyed ubisoft's game sice Assassins creed black flag.I was very disapointed from Watch Dogs 1(in many ways, liked the story tho),but second part was fun.Only if the story from first part could be with the gamepaly and the technical condition of the secon, would have been perfect. The story in WD2 is average, but the game still deserves a very good rating.

Finished Bloodborne for the first time yesterday. Had it since a week before Andromeda when I bought the PS4, partly because was busy with Andromeda and partly because I'm not a fan of the Victorian Age setting. I'm a big Dark Souls fan and only other online game I play next to Mass Effect, so I always bounce back between these two online series to recharge batteries. As you may have guessed, Bloodborne is a Dark Souls spin off, right down to using same recycled sound bites. Unfortunately I was very let down with Bloodborne. It's like this was an experiment from both Sony (publisher) and From Software to see how mainstream they can make the Dark Souls series, because sadly publishers like your EAs, Ubisoft wiener and Sorny rule the gaming world. So how do you make a game like Dark Souls more mainstream? Easy. You make the action faster/more button mashy friendly, simplify RPG mechanics and add... guns! The less said about this game's frame rate, the better. But I will say this, no other video game in recent memory ever irritated the eyes before, making this game literally an eye sore (especially for this game's faster pace). The issue is not just frame rate, but frame pacing too (many duplicates of the same frame - see frame time bar in video below). From Software never bothered to patch fix this issue for Bloodborne like they did for their followup Dark Souls 3. Probably because it's not the multiplatform money maker DS3 is. Would explain why this game also got only one DLC. Anyway, not as bad of a game to trade in like Andboringda. And I'm a Dark Souls fan, so there's a chance I might enjoy it more in replay. But dat frame rate...

Great review. I have the two preceding games, but have never played them. Would you consider it majorly beneficial to play them first? Or would you consider XCOM2 to be so good that you could go back and play the earlier ones later? (Bearing in mind I came to Mass Effect via PS3, so started with ME2) I think you'll be satisfied either way; you can definitely jump right into XCOM2, but Enemy Unknown/Within is a classic that has aged quite well. Hard to go wrong either way.

I've never once managed to finish the damn game. From a mage with that big screen-sized tempest combo storm thingy on hard (or whatever) to an over-the-shoulder no-companion-orders frontline warrior on easy to a backstabbing OP rogue I just can't find the immersion. Not that it's a bad game necessarily, I can't pin down what it is, but there's something about it. I get far enough but Claudia Black's voice only takes me so far.

Just had a couple of days off work pottering about the house and then spending loads of time in Shadow of mordor. I can now brand baddies and make them buddies and even though I only have 4 main missions left i have become totally addicted to gathering a little orc army all of my own. On the first map I have almost all the minons under my spell, and one warchief, and hope to work on the others. Then I might finish the main story so that i can set them all onto each other I didn't realise just how good this game is. the maps aren't huge but the weather effects and day vs night helps keep it fresh, and the environment of the second map was a lovely change after the grottiness of the first.

Haven't quite finished Shadow of Mordor, but Hellblade:Senua's Sacrifice was preordered, and dropped yesterday.
Gave it a go today and ooooh blimey it is soooo different to my usual games of pewpew and choppy choppy. But it looks amazing, the sound is incredible, and it is just so intense!
It's good its a shortish game as I am not sure my nerves can take it! Atmosphere is something else! Might do a brief recording without spoilers to show it tomorrow.

I am really hooked on Street Fighter 4 at the moment because of which is also really weird cuz I have never played a fighting game before this...Also..playing Titanfall with my 5 year old niece....She really loves being a giant robot...and she constantly top scores.... There's a big Capcom sale on Steam right now (until August 22) and I just bought Ultra SF4 for $7.49 even though I own the XBOX version - I use my PC regularly and the 360 is gathering dust. The DLC costumes are on sale too. So I literally waited eight years to finally buy all the SF4 DLC until I could get it dirt cheap. Hope I won't have to do that for SF5. Also, I bought the remastered DuckTales, Street Fighter X Tekken (like 6 bucks srsly) and a weird looking Capcom game "Remember Me" that looks like (to quote some website) Total Recall set in France. Anyone played this one? It was cheap and looked interesting. Oh, and I also bought some non-ME3 game called Mass Effect Andromeda.

Oh, and I also bought some non-ME3 game called Mass Effect Andromeda.Remember me is a very underrated game. The gameplay is very, very fun.The combos are great. The story is not bad and the game contains some easy, but fun puzzles,so if the game is on sale,go for it.It's not an open world game, but i enjoyed it.Oh,i forgot to mention, the protagonist is great.
