I'm not posting the video because it's full of spoilers and I don't want this to be a spoiler topic. I just watched some of the Gamespot 45 minutes of Andromeda vid which runs on a regular PS4 and the framerate seems like it's under 30fps by a little bit a lot of the time. It doesn't look nearly as smooth as Inquisition did. On the flipside I watched Outsidexbox's video of the same and on XB1 it looks to run better which confuses me. I'm a little worried they prioritized pc, Xbox One and PS4 Pro but not as much Regular PS4 becuase what I saw looks kind of crude. The graphics also looked notably more dull IMO as the DoF effects blend in more - it almost looked like the resolution was below 1080p too.

Well Mass Effect Andromeda is a top tier 2017 games.
PS4 and Xbox are reaching their limit.

The unfortunate reality of the base consoles this generation is that Microsoft and Sony used poor obsolete hardware that struggles to maintain even 30 FPS in a number of games. It's not just ME:A that suffers this issue.
The main reason why the Xbox One handles slightly better is just because it runs games at 900p instead of 1080p, which means rendering around 25% less pixels than the PS4 has.
Now they're trying to cash in on the pro versions of consoles just for players to be able to get something resembling respectable performance for a console.

If you are playing on a console and have strong feelings regarding frame-rates I think you might have made a mistake in choice of gaming device.

If you are playing on a console and have strong feelings regarding frame-rates I think you might have made a mistake in choice of gaming device. Kind of my thought as well. And i am a dirty console peasent too. But seriously, I play console games so I don't give much of a rats arse about 'frame rates'. But, he graphic comment is a bit of a concern if it ends up being true for me and since everything I have seen on the game looks solid as heck in this regard (the occasional weird facial animations not withstanding) then I'm not overly worried.

Daily reminder they've had 5 years to deal with this. I think 3-4 of those were spent wasting a lot of time on a redirecting game vision and staff leaving over scrapped work. (pure speculation but people they presented as leading staff were removed from their blog for instance) Also this is PS4 pro vs Ultra PC. Image quality is slightly held back by it being a GIF I made and the Pro version looks paler because it's from a live-stream with bad video setup but you can clearly see two things: DoF and Post-processing is low quality on console versions or what would be "Medium" in Battlefront for example. It doesn't look cinematic, it looks more like fog akin to the type of effect you'd see in PS3 games. Shadows are definitely not on ultra and I think Lighting is turned down a notch, perhaps even texture compression too. There's a lessened detail in the materal on the captain's suit in the Pro image. Also, notice the edges of her suit. The mesh-LoD decreases making her clothes look thinner and less rounded. Welp. I'm going with the PC version after all even if it means playing in 720p.

But people who play on consoles don't mind 30 fps, so 20-25 will not make big difference to them That's not true. 30fps and 60fps is nice but as soon as you drop below 30 it feels like it's "lagging" as evidenced by Witcher 3 for example which consistently dropped to 20fps in demanding areas making it feel unresponsive and unplayable. This looks really, really framey when in motion on a PS4, an issue Dragon Age Inquisition does not have. There is that slight cutscene stuttering sometimes in DA:I, but it feels like that's there but in the gameplay as well. It just did not look satisfying in motion when I saw it. EDIT: This was Xbox 1 footage, not PS4 Pro and the good looking image is PC Ultra settings

Lin, couldn't it be because of the stream? But yeah, I worry too, Xbox here. Read my post. I differentiated what looked as it does because of the stream quality vs what actually changes in the internal rendering of graphics. Key points are: - Medium/high Shadow settings as opposed to Ultra - Decreased Mesh LoD quality (less polygons, jagged shapes) - Slightly downscaled textures - Medium or low post-processing and DoF meaning the depth of field looks like fog as opposed to cinematic focus blur (this effect is very demanding but it was in DA:I on PS4) EDIT: I lied. This is Xbox 1 not PS4 pro, but the good looking version is Ultra PC.

No, no. I saw the Gamespot video, it seemed overly laggy, stuff I notice in livestreams and whatnot, and yeah - the outsidexbox video looked very smooth. As for the visuals, I found them pretty great in both consoles.
But it's the framerate I'm focusing on.

This generation of frostbite games have major issues with stability on the ps4 due to Sonys insistnence in being 1080p. This shouldn't be a surprise anymore. Just look up any digital foundry video about a frostbite game.

Just look up any digital foundry video about a frostbite game. Except literally every video game developer agrees the PS4 is far easier to develop for than the PS3. I excused the poor frame rate ME3 had on the PS3 because it was a hard console to develop for. No company should have trouble developing for the PS4 unless they just plain suck at their jobs. It's no harder than the Xbox One.

Nope, but I pay less for games, and most of the time run them with ultra quality/60fps+. Oh also there is amazing modding community Plus I don't use my PC only for games..

That's art style and resolution as opposed to graphical power. You can't beat the numbers unfortunately, and the xbone and ps4 were undergunned to start with. The trick is to do the best with what you have.
