Tried playing some multiplayer but got disconnected so many times I gave up trying to marathon a few hours of MP. I did manage one full game extraction and a wipe on a wave 6 where everything lagged to fuck. The movement feels sluggish, the turn speed is off and everything feels a bit cramped which may be more to do with the FOV. I don't like this type of cover system at all, but hopefully it will get better as I get used to it (I found this more of an issue in SP though). The HUD and character selection screens have already been mentioned, but they are not improvements over ME3 at all. At this moment in time I'm on the fence as to whether I buy this game or not. I have no idea why they cancelled the tech test because this thing they've given us in the trial isn't a polished and finished product. The tech test was cancelled because it wasn't necessary. The game was deemed perfect. Duh!!!!!!!!!!!

First impressions were really bad. I was expecting something with the same feel as ME3 MP and not with the tons of problem the game currently has (thankfully the beta was cancelled because the game was in a good state!), but that was not the case. I have preordered the game mainly for MP, since i really liked ME3MP, but i decided to cancel it and refund it. What scared me are not the gameplay changes (not spammable power for casters, high character mobility, same for every kit, new cover system and so on), since these require time to be judged, but the technical problems and the BS things i've seen.
ME3MP has its techinical/connectivity problems for being a p2p game, but here the situation is way way worse. And what's really scaring is that the games currently played are bronze ones with very few enemies. I cannot imagine how the situation will worsen with late gold/plat(?) waves! The fact that these problems at this level were present also in DAIMP (same engine), and practically never fixed, doesn't make me more hopeful. And we have also consider the fact that MP mode is basically "free", and played by a minority of players, so considering that currently SP is also full of problems, this means that the vast of resources will go in fixing this, meaning waiting even more for MP improvements.
So i don't see a bright future for MP, at least at first. And the fact that player feedback will be practically ignored by the devs (there's no more an official forums for discussing gameplay balance/changes, you have to "use twitter") is scaring. So basically we are in the hands of the ones that thought that not putting a simple text chat in the game, using an cumbersome and awful ui (both out and in game, without a proper pc one like me3mp), testing the MP mode using LAN without caring about connectivity issue, and using other BS (for example making mics open on default!) were clever ideas (and i'm not talking about probable gameplay problems). Well...
I honestly don't want to take part on this (paying for beta testing the game). I will be watching outside with my pop corns.

My initial impression is that this will not be happening with ME:A.
Time played: 2983H 14M 59S Games played: 8775
More like 10 hours. Of which half is spent trying to decipher quite possibly the worst game UI in recent memory. Maybe when this goes into the bargain bin and is ten bucks it'll be worth revisiting. Right now there's nothing in it that grabs my attention the same way ME3MP did.

I'll make this quick, but my thoughts: - Progression is much slower. I think it's a good thing when you factor in Prestige and such, but after putting in over 1,500 hrs in ME3 multiplayer, feels a little weird.
- Combos are a necessity. Teams seem to struggle when they don't have kits that can prime targets, especially with the long cooldowns of detonators. Maybe this will change when more players start using Ammo consumables.
- I actually like the shorter wave lengths. Matches don't seem to drag on like in ME3 and no more Wave 10 pizza bullcrap.
- Lag, Lag, Lag. Unexplained host migration, and usually when a host is migrated, players are stuck at spawn. I even got lag on the tutorial mission...hosted by me...as the only player. W.T.F.
- (PC) Buggy - Audio vanishes entirely, CTDs (I had about 6 or 7), invisible objectives (mainly the missing assassination marker), invisible teammates, the press "E" to activate button getting stuck in the crosshair for the whole match, ammo resupply bug (where you can only refill your current mag, not your reserve)etc. Nothing nearly as bad as falling through maps or glitchy vanguards from ME3, but still annoying since I came across these bugs in just a few hrs, and I know Bioware played/had people playing this shit way longer than that. Inexcusable, really.
- The game is responsive as hell. Powers are instant, no more off-host delay bullshit where your survival ops pack would activate AFTER you went down, etc. The new controls are fantastic and the lack of an omni-button to do everything is a very welcome change.
- I can already see a large degree of character kit ranking growing to become problematic. With the emphasis on combos and direct power damage being relatively weaker than in previous games, kits without the ability to prime targets will suffer. There are kits that have 3 detonating powers, that are all very weak, but not a single priming ability. Unless Bioware manages to get ahead of this with some creative balance changes, I fear it's only a matter of time where we end up like ME3 where even with the dozens of kits, players tended to stick with 1/4 of them.
- EA needs to make their Early Access Trials longer for people who already bought the game. 10-hr for everyone in the Access program, and 15 hrs for people in the access program who also bought the game already. Crack addicts need their fix!

I did see one player fall through a map, but wasn't recording, so no pics. also, one time when joining a match in progress I hit "join" before my human male adept model loaded, and when I got in the game I had a different character with different weapons, and was not able to use my powers at all. so, quit that match and restarted, making sure to let the character model load first.

Second evenings worth of play, and i'm much happier with things now. There are still issues that worry me (mainly tonight it was the sound believe it or not), but overall I feel a lot more content than I did yesterday.
Edit - Guess I should expand upon the sound thing. I'm on Xbox One with a Turtle Beach Stealth 500x headset (pretty good surround sound) but the sound of gunfire from enemies and squadmates was all over the place. eg i'm standing at the far North of the map facing South, and the gunfire was still coming from behind me out towards the distant scenery. No idea why. When I first loaded the game all I saw for audio options were "stereo" or "surround" and I picked surround, but i'll admit I haven't really trawled the menus yet. Anyway, the sound was seriously distracting tonight and i'd like to know if anyone else has noticed anything similar.

I returned to finish my 10 free hours tonight in MP. Here's a summary:
Lost Connection: 2 (plus getting booted at the end cos I ran out of time...that "1 minute warning" didn't even appear on my screen) Game crashed to Desktop: 1 Host Dropped out: 1 Power blackout in my house: 1 (I don't think this was Bioware's fault...but you never know) Mission Failed: 2 Successful Extractions: 6 (or 7 maybe) ALL BRONZE BABY!
I was playing Human Adept and Human Engineer. I love the Engineer! Cryo blast is great and the charge up powers are also nice. Getting the hang of the jet pack has been a challenge but I was finding good vantage points on some of the maps which gave an edge, especially up high. When the tyeam goes down, it really goes down. The difference between 4 players and 2 players is extreme. And the enemies really do come from every direction. "Get to cover" it says, and everywhere you go you get shot in the butt.
But I really enjoy it. Sure it doesn't seem as smooth as ME3MP, it is different, but I am liking the difference.
Except the Menu Screens UI, it's like a crazy bag of skittles. Some menus say to press Escape to confirm and others say press Space to Confirm. Since when does Escape confirm stuff anyway? After ten hours I still got confused trying to remove a weapon, where you have to press V. And when you want to see the cards in the store pack you bought you have to press X. Why?!!!!! I bought the cards man, turn them over for me. Why do I have to turn over my own store cards as well!!!

I wanted to try an Apex mission in multiplayer. It created a lobby but nobody joined. So I started on my own and soloed 2 waves, only died once, well, with Krogan vanguard level 3 with katana I. Actually, once the rage gets going, charge plus headbutt is killing every mook on bronze. Wave 3 were devices, I got 2 and got downed while doing third. At this exact moment, two more people joined and then the 4th and it all went very well, full extraction and mission complete. I then went to cash in and got turian soldier, katana III, and revenant. Can't wait to try them tomorrow.

I've played three Bronze matches as the Female Human Engi, with the Shadow sniper rifle (best gun I have so far). 1: Ice map, Kett. Massive FPS drop in Wave 6 hacking objective, enemies rubberbanding all over the place, guns not firing, squad wipe. 2: Ditto. 3: Some reactor thing? Renegades. CTD on Wave 4 while punching a lizard to death. The third match was actually quite fun until then, though! The jetpack takes some getting used to, but once I level up a bit more and get some good weapons then I think I'll get the hang of it. EDIT: After the CTD, there is no 'play' button in Origin. imgur.com/a/afELYEDIT 2: Restarting Origin fixed it.

I'm going to try and pin down why I feel the combat is so unsatisfying: - Obviously, the guns are shit. Which is fine, I'm not expecting an Avenger IV to be a murder machine, and I'm OK if they want to increase the TTK a little. But what's really annoying is that reloading your weapon takes ages, can't be cancelled, and is interrupted by pretty much every single action. Especially with all the jetpacking around - you'll dodge away from something and have to start your reload all over again. TLDR I'm fine with no reload cancel if I can reload while sprinting or jetpacking.
- Which leads to my next point, this vaunted mobility. It's kinda fun...but at the same time feels kinda pointless. All the routes seem easily traversable. And while there's some fun moments dodging away from grenades/charging Krogan/whatever, I don't feel like I'm doing anything that much different from combat roll spamming.
- Powers: I'll say it once - cooldowns feel too damn high. Which might be fine, except combos feel really unsatisfying - they're harder to see amongst the barrage of particle effects, and they don't sound as good. And they don't seem to do all that much damage either, which is weird. All this means that it feels like caster classes have really been shafted.
EDIT: Oh and enemies dodging powers is still a thing. Kinda sucks when I have to wait like 10 seconds for throw to come off cooldown.
