This is a good time to bring this back up. To me, folks enjoying romances in video games isn't anything weird. Video games are just another medium like books, film or TV. Some of the most beloved pieces of classic art and literature have two main themes: Love and war. For just one example, the story of Troy is about war, but it's also about the love of a woman. Mass Effect, at it's core, has a lot of elements about finding love and friendship during the darkest times of war. It's up to the individual on how well they do, but that's something I've noticed over the years. Attempting to belittle someone for enjoying BioWare romances is a little weird to me. Honestly, would anyone feel any real shame about crying over a moving book about war and loss and love? Or a movie? Forget about romance novels, I'm talking stories of love, loss and war. Sure, there might be some brief embarrassment, but most folks would understand. This isn't any different. This is just the latest in a very very long generation of humans that have discovered stories about love and war. Only this time, we're experiencing it in a way that being a spectator would never match. I mean, it's not like we're here for any sex scenes. Let's be honest, most of us are old enough or at least savvy enough to find digitized versions of sexual acts. We're here for the story. The romances add to the overarching story for me, and for others as well. To each their own, but try to think about it that way. Queen. Honestly my qualms weren't based on the fact that people are disappointed. I am too. I just dislike how people are turning that disappointment into rejection. Yes we have less romance options for some bizarre reason, but this does not dilute the ones we do have.

I'll reserve judgement until I've had a chance to interact with the squad and supporting character, but I cant pretend I'm not really disappointed with their decision to leave Gay male players without a romanceable squadmate. I'd say I only bother with romance in Bioware games in about half of my playthroughs, but I've always appreciated them giving gamers like me the option to be included on the same level as straight gamers. This seems like a step backwards from that, and I really can't see a reason why they'd do it. It is disappointing that's for sure.

Sooo... less than half the number available to straight Scott and gay Sara, and not a single squadmate option? Wow, that's pretty terrible. I honestly expected better of them.

Gay men aren't allowed to be main characters in Mass Effect. You can have aliens and spaceships, but homosexuality in men is considered pandering to the SJW, I guess. My bad! Sorry, I thought I deserved just as much as a lesbian gamer.

But there is a huge disparity on content written for straight men. I'd like to see if you would type the same thing if it were 5 gay options and 2 straight options, and the straight options had only non-squadmates and one of those not even being on the ship. Oh yeah I forgot. The gay scenes are graphic and straights are fade to black.

It is quite sad that I feel the most inclusive playing the Sims 4... c'mon Andromeda! Hopefully, all of this stirs up some more public criticism towards Bioware.
I just feel like I was slapped in the face, repeatedly. Even compared to their earlier games, this is depressing.

This threads about gay males don't getting the option they were expecting remembers me when straight males were doing the same but with DAI. Probably the difference is that straight males get called out for that.
I mean, i know it sucks when you don't get the romance option you wanted to, but you haven't play the game yet, maybe the romance option you get aren't that bad as you may think.

Probably the difference is that straight males get called out for that. The difference is that straight male Inquisitors didn't have fewer options than gay male Inquisitors or lesbian Inquisitors - or even straight female Inquisitors who were dwarves or Qunari. There were only extra options for straight female humans and elves. This time, gay male Ryders get fewer options than anyone else (and none of those options are squad mates.)

Yes, I would because I don't give two flying fucks about the dating simulator aspects of MEA, but the gameplay and roleplaying aspects of it. Something that used to mean a damn before BioWare fans started focusing solely on the dating simulator shit. So instead of proper discussion about gameplay, we're subject to rant after rant about every single recognized sexual orientation complaining that they are not "being represented enough" in the game.

So the thread is meant to voice concerns over same-sex (which includes lesbian) issues, but the OP (and others) has been very stringent that this is a thread about M/M issues. You're being pedantic. The issue at hand (as made clear in the OP) is that there are relatively few M/M options in comparison to any other sex pairings. Sure, both F/F and M/M fall under the 'same-sex' category, but there's practically no overlap otherwise. Those who wish to experience M/M are, in the majority of cases, probably not the same as those wishing to experience F/F options. So blatantly favouring one over the other doesn't scream 'inclusivity' or fairness* to me. It would be like saying that all straight options are the same, and that any disparity between opposite-sex options for males and for females can be overlooked because they're both 'inclusive of straight people', despite clear content gating for a subset of that demographic.

I've said this in the romance thread as well but the thing that bothers me the most about this, the core thing, isn't the absence of options, it isn't even the fade-to-black and the lack of content with the romances we do have access to, it's the nauseating hypocrisy of Bioware. Who wants to bet they'll show up at Gaymer X again this year? Maybe win a few awards for inclusivity? Tweet and posts on forums reassuring the fans that they care and that they're the inclusive AAA dev, the ones who care about representation.
I don't get in Bethesda or CDPR's face cuz at least they're upfront about where diversity slots in for them, there's an honesty there even if the answer isn't particularly pleasant. But Bioware is more than willing to take the plaudits for the importance of their supposed service. More than willing to pat themselves on the back. The backhanded disdain from a developer who has, and probably still will, loudly tell you their on your side is just breathtaking.

But you're actually right, is unfair if you see that way. I think if it were just that we had fewer options, we wouldn't be complaining this much but it looks like less time and care went into the M/M romances' creation, as well. They're shorter, they only have fade-to-black sex-scenes, the M/M LIs both have character creator faces, not unique ones, one of them may even just be a fling, not a full romance. Not to mention that neither of them is a squadmate.
