Ok, Jaal is officially straight. Look at the rest of the tweets, but basically he contacted bioware and they've said Jaal should turn Scott down. Bleh...

Which is why I focused on it in my first posts in this thread. Hell, female characters in general had more romance options in DAI, but people still had to whine about how BioWare isn't being "inclusive". The inanity of it all... Well I think some people are referring to "gay-inclusive" specifically. I can understand that to some extent, but the generalization to LGBT is odd given that there are more L and B's than straights lol Which is why I called the situation inane.

I wish BioWare would comment on Jaal and just put it all to rest. I wish BioWare would name the actual leaf animator for MEA so all the people that harassed the woman that "claims" it was her would look more like idiots, but shockingly that will never happen. Thing is, they don't really care about looking like idiots. They would just move on to harass the actual animation lead

Overreactions for sure but BioWare is partly to blame for this. They were very quiet on romance content for quite some time, broke their silence on straight romances only, and built up Jaal's romance while several other m/m options were shot down. People's expectations were somewhat broken at the last second.

Well let me know if anyone starts writing the "formal" letter. I would start writing it myself, but my English isn't good. Though I think this might gain more traction if the letter is linked to the romance thread.

I don't really like the idea of harassing people, no matter what reason. Sure, they may not have done that job that well, but there is pretty large difference between harassment and criticism.

Then it's a good thing that I didn't conflate the two. Currently, she is being criticized for the quality of her previous work as well as harassed. Both of which are undeserved (particularly the harrasment), but it's even worse if she didn't even contribute to the project as the Lead Animator.

Though I think this might gain more traction if the letter is linked to the romance thread. You mean a letter to BioWare? (Or the emails we'll send out to news sites?) Hm, I'd do it but I feel like I'm not quite deeply entrenched enough in the fandom to do it. (I only started with ME2 on PS3, have only completed Inquisition of the Dragon Age games and my knowledge of BioWare as a company isn't THAT extensive.) We could brainstorm some ideas for what needs to be mentioned in it and how it should be structured/worded before someone starts writing it all up, I guess.

But do you honestly think they would stop harassing her just because they have an actual scapegoat? Especially since Bioware already released statement that it was not in fact her job (as far as I know)? No, they would just start harassing the actual lead too. Or maybe I'm just too cynical as far as internet idiocy is concerned. Anyway, this is off-topic.

I'm going to wait for confirmation in game before I get riled up. If there is an achievement for 3 then there should be a third option somewhere.

I went into this blind thinking there would be an m/m squad option because it's a futuristic fantasy story where male aliens couldn't possibly adhere to human sexuality gates...I was so wrong I know the original trilogy had this problem but I thought things would only evolve with the new game but they regressed

Somewhat unrelated, but does anyone know about this Dr Carlyle/Dr Charlie/Harry person that was datamined for M/M romance? It was never actually confirmed to be him. There was a bi character called nex_doc and we didn't know if it was Dr Carlyle (with doc being short for doctor) or Keri, the asari documentary film maker (with doc being short for documentary) but it's since been confirmed that it was referring to Keri so there's no Dr Carlyle romance by the looks of it.

This is a good time to bring this back up. To me, folks enjoying romances in video games isn't anything weird. Video games are just another medium like books, film or TV. Some of the most beloved pieces of classic art and literature have two main themes: Love and war. For just one example, the story of Troy is about war, but it's also about the love of a woman. Mass Effect, at it's core, has a lot of elements about finding love and friendship during the darkest times of war. It's up to the individual on how well they do, but that's something I've noticed over the years. Attempting to belittle someone for enjoying BioWare romances is a little weird to me. Honestly, would anyone feel any real shame about crying over a moving book about war and loss and love? Or a movie? Forget about romance novels, I'm talking stories of love, loss and war. Sure, there might be some brief embarrassment, but most folks would understand. This isn't any different. This is just the latest in a very very long generation of humans that have discovered stories about love and war. Only this time, we're experiencing it in a way that being a spectator would never match. I mean, it's not like we're here for any sex scenes. Let's be honest, most of us are old enough or at least savvy enough to find digitized versions of sexual acts. We're here for the story. The romances add to the overarching story for me, and for others as well. To each their own, but try to think about it that way.

I'll reserve judgement until I've had a chance to interact with the squad and supporting character, but I cant pretend I'm not really disappointed with their decision to leave Gay male players without a romanceable squadmate. I'd say I only bother with romance in Bioware games in about half of my playthroughs, but I've always appreciated them giving gamers like me the option to be included on the same level as straight gamers.
This seems like a step backwards from that, and I really can't see a reason why they'd do it.
