So far I'm surprised they stick with the trilogy ratio. I'm not going to say anything much about Koth Liam, Jaal and Reyes, since I barely see that many scenes with them, but five lesbian romances (most probably bisexual)... like woah... exactly how many aren't flings?
I'm disappointed that there are no gaylien for Scott. Again. Why?

So have we decided where the best place to send letters of concern should go? I'd like to let them know that, while I do appreciate that they continue to include gay male romances, the marketing approach, as well as the marginalization of those characters has made me, a diehard Bioware fan who has bought every single one of their games since Baldur's Gate (with the exception of Neverwinter Nights), to vow not to preorder going forward. My main points will be the disparity between gay male and straight male options in both quality and quantity, the generic CC design of both m/m options, the lack of sex scenes for m/m romances, the "queerbaiting" (although I'll phrase it differently) around Jaal, and the general unresponsiveness from the devs and marketing in general surrounding m/m romances during this cycle. That being said, I'm not willing to write off Bioware nor even this particular team of devs yet. They come across as bumbling and clueless around issues of diversity relating to m/m content -- I'm not getting a malicious vibe from them. And the fact that I'm privy to some private PMs between more than one poster and the devs indicate that they are listening and trying to understand. If (and I'm genuinely worried about it), ME:A gets a sequel, I would like to think that this feedback will be received and attended to. And, in the meantime, I have ZERO concerns about DA4. That team has demonstrated that, while they don't always get it right, they are making the right strides. I feel good with Patrick at the helm and Sheryl back on the ship. As a straight woman I have no horse in this race but when I read about the romance distribution today I thought: wow... they fucked THAT up too. I would call Bioware hypocrites for this. Their "progressiveness" is lip service to me here. I have NOT been a fan of their SJW pandering of late, exactly because it always felt disingenuous to me. That they're just doing it to appear so very inclusive these days. Look, another transgender character, progressive, eh? Even DAI rubbed me the wrong way a bit. But my view on that is of course very different. An outsider's take on things. That said, I'd be really pissed off about 2 non-squadmate options. I know it's a different team, but how can they parade around their supposed gay pride as a company and then pull crap like this? There is so much about MEA that's baffling. And I'm not inclined to defend the game because the team had no idea what they were doing in pretty much every respect. Don't give your biggest franchise to a bunch of clueless kids. And then try to do damage control by trying to buy reviewers and doing misleading marketing. I personally am very worried about DA4, but for entirely different reasons.

One doesn't have to come at the expense of the other. Of course if you had to choose one you'd choose quality, but ideally you have both. And I don't see any reason to believe that those with more romances for less quality when more effort was put into their scenes. Here we have neither. Gil and Reyes as non-squad mates just won't compare to squad mate romances. There won't be the same sense of consistent adventure and progression that you would feel being constantly in peril or traveling with a squad mate. You won't get constant banter and interactions with Gil being on the ship and Reyes not even being on the ship. These characters will undoubtedly have far less dialogue for romance and general character development. Probably no loyalty missions. I made a joke weeks ago that m/m romances would be in full armor. One of the romances ended up doing this. WTF. The other fade to black only shows their heads in a Closeup. I guess we can't even handle a male chest. Meanwhile Coras ass is right in your face for long periods of straight male gaze. Cora then lays in bed fully nude while m/m is like "can we get away with showing a collarbone?" Im sickened by this disparity and while I appreciate BioWare does gay content at all, I'm not going to just shut up and hope they get more GLAAD awards with these kinds of differences. Have you watched the scenes between Gil and Scott? I get the feeling you haven't. It is much better done than Vetra's fade to black (hers was just awkward). If you have seen the scenes then you aren't being truthful about what's in it at all, and maybe you should reevaluate your posts so you aren't misleading people.

It's all well and good to say that some thing isn't to your liking, but really, you know they showed a bit more than a little collarbone, so why even say something like that? You're exaggerating and assuming. I wish people wouldn't do this to situations like these. It's just fanning the flames of other people's unhappiness.

Just going to quote myself here because it's relevant: You know. I'll just say it. If Jaal had been bi? I would've forgiven Bioware entirely. Because at the very least, we would've started from a stronger position than ME3. We would've started this new series of games by breaking the Mass Effect mold in a meaningful way. But we don't even have that. And I'm not going to fault Biofan any for enjoying his love triangle, but even assuming the NPCs are just the most amazing thing short of a squadmate, there will ALWAYS been this underlying bitter feeling that we (that is, gay men) have to go off the beaten path and possibly even way outside of our own orientation to get even a modest portion of the quality everyone else will get to experience. I don't understand being okay with that. I don't understand how, at any meeting or get-together, a development can look at this and go "I guess this is okay."

Yeah but Vetra is a squadmate you see, and therefore has more content, Gil / Suvi will never get amazing lines such as:
- There are bad dudes coming Ryder! - I'm hit! - Shields are down! - ENEMIES EVERYWHERE
They simply cannot compete with such character development.
Also, everyone knows that having relationships with people that doesn't get shot at on a regular basis is for plebs, that's why I exclusively date dangerous criminals and military personnel (during wartime only tho).

Aliens are like the yogurt/chocolate covered cereal pieces in a a box of otherwise plain cereal. Sure, you eat the rest of the plain cereal, but why you bought the damn box was for those damn yogurt/chocolate covered cereals that are so much better than the plain cereal pieces!

See, now I know you haven't seen the Gil sex scene in its entirety or you're purposefully being misleading. Don't worry about it. I agree that gay men always get the short end of the stick and that they should be pissed off by that. If I had it my way everybody would get what they wanted and enjoy the game equally. But when I see people blatantly misleading others then I'm going to call them out on it.

"Glimpses of shoulders". See, now I know you haven't seen the Gil sex scene in its entirety or you're purposefully being misleading. Don't worry about it. But when I see people blatantly misleading others then I'm going to call them out on it. How about you just post the link to whatever your referencing. Here's what I watched: I'm referencing the sex scene between Gil and Scott. The one you said you'd seen. Edit: Sorry, I replied before your edit. Yeah, this one. Now let's look at it from a logical standpoint. Generally with all sex scene's in BioWare games you're either going to get the ass or the chest. In this one they chose to go with the latter. But holy crap, there are a lot of things going on here that I see nobody talking about. The close up of the hand slowly making its way down the chest and torso, hinting at it going further then back up again. Gil is damn tease.
The friskiness of being pushed up against the wall and then going to the bed. I'll admit that some of the angles for the kissing are awkward, but a lot of the angles in this game are awkward. Still, you do get to see a lot of the kissing not being covered by anything.
We aren't all going to like the same thing. But in my opinion this is a tastefull yet steamy scene without being vulgar. If you don't agree with that then that's all good. But what I would like to know is, and get your opinion on, is what do you think would make this scene better? What do you want to see in a m/m sex scene?

Yeah, it really is unfair that there have been no m/m alien LI's to date. And the fact that Kaiden wasn't romanceable until when? ME:3? I honestly thought, along with everyone else, that Jaal was going to be bi.
