tishina i'm sure you're exactly right about the real reasons there's no dwarven romance. But their tap dancing around the issue amuses me. meanieweenie OMG you just reminded me of how totally annoying it was after Anders moved (HIMSELF!) in and then continued to complain about how he should get a nicer place. That was ambient banter they certainly should have coded to change once he moved into your fancy mansion.

Yeah the Anders romance moved TOO FAST for me. At least with Fenris it felt like you were pursuing him... you flirted, he deflected, you flirted a little more, he giggled lol
Isabela also moved fast, but it made sense the way the story was told. You flirted, she flirted, she shows up at your house, you exchange grins, BOOM SEXY TIME.
With Anders it was mostly like... you flirted, he expresses shock that you would ever find an abomination such as him attractive, you flirt a little more, he leaps into your arms and makes out with your face lol

I agree with Artemis. Isabela's fast romance makes sense due to her personality, and the fact that it clearly started as a one night stand. Anders, not so much. Fenris's pace was quite good, as was Merril. In any case I'd prefer if Bioware takes account of DA2's progression system in companions dialogue. While not perfect, it at least made the progression of friendship/rivarly and romance coordinated with the story.

Blackwall was originally supposed to be a dwarf. But when they put Varric in the game, they decided 2 dwarves out of 9 companions was too many Several of the romances had extremely narrow appeal or were gated. I like several of the options for male players, and I like Solas and Cullen. Sadly, none of those were available, offically, to a female dwarf. Blackwall particularly chaps me because dwarven women have two male choices, and IB is obviously a rather narrow niche romance, but they put a lot of extra time into getting the animations right for that one instead of Blackwall. Blackwall's my type (even his voice is lovely,) he starts off wonderfully (very gallant and courtly in his flirts,) and once I got past the lying issue, I could probably have enjoyed the romance. But I hated being forced to make a decision on the romance in front of the entire court at Skyhold, the romance still feels very incomplete, even truncated because it stops there, and the animations are so poorly done for dwarves (and almost as bad for qunari,) they make me want to scream. I haven't been able to bring myself to touch my dwarf x Blackwall pt since April 2015, I just can't do it. Even the Trespasser romance segment for Blackwall wouldn't sweeten it for me because I hated the animations in the loft part of the romance so much (levitating boobs ahoy!) that I reloaded and played the alternative where he leaves from the tavern instead. His Trespasser bit loses most of its meaning if you didn't wake up in the loft alone. Ironically, I loved all 4 of the DAO romances, though I guess my favorites, Zevran and Morrigan, are less popular than Alistair and Leliana? I'm not sure if you've seen this on the Blackwall's thread (posted by his writer long long time ago) but apparently there was an extra dialogue with him that would trigger after the trial bit only if you had at least one branch of convo left unexplored. I never leave unexplored convos hence it never triggered for me. :/ I also love all of the DAO romances but Zev's and Morri's resonate the most with me, though Morrigan has a slight advantage in here since I looove the friendmance with her so much. But you are right, Leli is the most popular li overall (according to data) and Al is probably more popular among male lis (this is just guessing).

...snip for length... I really like Fenris too as a potential LI, I'm just not entirely comfortable with how they dealt with a couple of things, particularly the issue of slavery. Interesting...in what way? I adore Fenris. I played the rivalmance (Hawke sympathized with mages, but was still anti-slavery) and it is still so sweet

Fenris was my first. So, so much squealing from me I should have been ashamed. I saved right before every romance scene and replayed them again and again and again... And this was with my slightly fugly Hawke before I knew how to make really handsome ones haha Anders was my first DA2 romance but it was a bit of an accident. I mean, I truly thought we were in the flirting phase and before I knew what happened he was crashing at my place! And I remember right after the shag scene, he left the room and I got a little notice at the bottom that said I just lost 1 silver! WTF dude?! Suddenly I'm his sugar mama! Anyway, I ran through all available LI's... for science... and found I enjoyed Isabela's the most because she didn't complain as much as the others. Sorry boys. you're cute and all but I have things to do and no time to babysit your emotions. There's your window into my psyche. Yeah, Anders is ready to move in quick...I tried to change the subject to sandwiches, but the game was having none of that. Wait, we lost a Silver? Son of a ....! Isabela is awesome. Still one of my favorite characters. Her laid back personality is more my type. Annd Blackwall was originally a dwarf? I had no idea, and yet looking back it makes perfect sense. If they were only going to put one dwarf in the game--Varric--then he should have been romanceable.

Crazy romance that one was. Alistair..oh, Alistair. Still my favorite romance out of all the BW romances, even the ME ones. It felt well paced. A good friendship seemed to evolve first. It was just..idk..the writing; voice acting and facial animations all came together for me into this heady brew. That's still my Baby.

I tried reloading a few times and the missing silver never happened again so I guess it was a random glitch. But I got a good chuckle out of it's accidental appropriateness. You know how sometimes someone will ask for a lick of your ice cream and then you look down and see they've eaten almost the whole thing? That's what how the romance felt to me. Agree that the kiss was hot though.

I knew about it and very carefully did not explore several things with him. Still didn't trigger right on my romance PT (though it did on another one where I'd barely spoken to him.) Besides, as far as I can tell from the videos, it's an identical conversation (not cutscene) to the ones everyone else gets, with the exception of one question and a couple of lines in answer. And that makes NO sense that you wouldn't have a cutscene after the judgement (or better, in place of making you go through that in public.) Actually, in terms of romance cutscenes, he probably had about as much (measured in time) as Solas: A brief one on a cliff, one in your room which wasn't that long, the tavern-to-loft which actually starts as an extension of a conversation everyone had and was only a couple of extra lines if you didn't go to the loft, and the kiss option (which was definitely sadly missing from Solas's.) Everything else added one or two lines to the conversations or scenes everyone in the game got.

I'll probably get to it at some point since I need to take her through dlc anyway and her pt is super short one anyway. Still, it's disheartening that there is no clear trigger solution for the convo.

Haha, oh my. An "Anders" student? Better keep an eye on that one. I romanced Anders on my first play -- because I have that kind of luck. Can't say I was completely shocked because I suspected he was going to do something. Even so, I'm glad that I did him first (and Alistair/Solas) because it gave playing the game a unique impact. I'm just wondering if my streak will continue with MEA and DA4... Anders' romance can have that rushed feel to it and I think part of that is because it suffers from the 3 year gap and warped writing (like important dialogue being removed if Hawke is female). He's supposed to have been harboring intense feelings for Hawke for 3 years but we don't see that. Still, my Hawke was shameless about her intentions so the breathless kiss wasn't a surprise. Isabela is my second favorite DA2 LI. I didn't expect to enjoy her romance but I really fell in love with it and like her even more because of it. It fit well with the story and I like what it brought of her character. I don't like that I can't flirt with her without having her show up at the estate, though. I just like to flirt with people sometimes and she takes it as an explicit invitation and then... it's a little difficult to get out of her booty call. I'd say I enjoyed all the romances, though, and would definitely replay them if I could get away from Anders. I have yet to play a dwarf. I started one in DAI but had to delete it because of Keep stuff. However I do remember the weird scene with Varric. Just. Why? And it's odd they would think more than one dwarf companion is too many. I don't understand that thinking.

I'm getting super nostalgic, too. And that video of the Anders romance you posted has just sent me over the edge. And that Tumblr piece above. Now I want to make an updated video of that old one someone made with the BW guys and the song, "It's Raining Men" I'm going to have to get serious about my DA replays now. Too much good stuff.

Bwahahaha! I like all of three of them, but I admit, Zevran and Isabela appeal to me exactly because they'd be the ones trying to make the player blush... And both of them have a surprisingly kind streak and aren't clingy...

I'm playing a Cadash/Blackwall romance at the moment and it feels like he has half of the scenes that Cullen has and he was intended to be a LI from the beginning . Cullen romance was added when they got their extension and it feels there is so much more going on there than in the Blackwall romance.

Ahem. Witnessed!
