So what are people's preferences when romancing her--to make her divine or not? I can't decide what to do on my Adaar playthrough, and I'd like to hear other people's opinions on the matter. I choice not to make Cassie divine in my canon world - instead, Leliana is.

I always have Leliana as Divine.
While Cass would make for a good Divine as she's the most moderate candidate, it seems to me that she'd be far happier rebuilding the Seekers. With the Seeker ending, she has a chance to rebuild the group she views as almost family, has no restrictions on her professional or private life, nor does she have to deal with the endless stress that comes with leading the Chantry or playing the Game.
(Plus the Seeker Trespasser epilogue is the only one to show her smiling broadly, so that's an automatic win for me)

I got Vivienne elected as the Divine in my Cassmance game. It wasn't even on purpose, the choices I did during the playthrough simply led to this outcome - though to say I wasn't relieved would be a lie. In-universe however, Fjal' totally played the Game so Vivi would get elected, since he considered the Chantry's claims tha they wanted either Leli or Cass out of respect for the late Justinia V a bald-faced lie, instead believing it to be a poorly disguished plot to weaken the Inquisition (and to take Cassandra from him) by the remaining Grand Clerics. Vivi was more than happy to confort him in his view, mind you.

I haven't romanced her yet (it's planned for my 4th playthrough), but I think after learning what a romantic Cassandra is, I feel bad making her the divine. I want her to get her hunka-hunka, and she's more free to do that if she isn't divine.
Did anyone else have trouble warming up to Cassandra the first time they played? After the way she treated Varric (who really had done nothing wrong, and nothing to deserve her ire in the beginning) I had a really hard time wanting my first Inquisitor to be friends with her. I saw her initially as someone for whom the ends justify the means, who didn't care how innocent Varric was...he had information she wanted, and she was willing to do anything to get it.
I don't mean to bash her, because I did get over the feeling and she is now one of my favorites, but I just wondered if anyone else got the same first impression.

Thanks for the responses. I might have to go back and see what I picked to see the chances of Cassie becoming divine. The more I play, the more I don't want her as divine on my romance playthrough. I haven't romanced her yet (it's planned for my 4th playthrough), but I think after learning what a romantic Cassandra is, I feel bad making her the divine. I was right there with you dragontartare. I had a good hate going for her before the game came out because of the way she was treating Varric in DA2. Even seeing the trailers and stuff leading up to DAI, I still didn't like her. But on my first run, she finally won me over when she let down her guard. I can hold a serious grudge, but when she quit being such a bitch and opened up, I ended up liking her.

I divinemanced her. Nothing I had decided beforehand, I just tried to stay in character and see what the result would be. She has time to rebuild the seekers even as a divine apparantly. I am pleased with the end result since it also means Leliana gets to "retire" to be with my warden finally

And sure enough, I have never liked him yet was stuck with him for two games.

No, not really. I felt like she was in the right to yell at Varric about Hawke, and I never hated her. And I romanced her during one of my first playthroughs, so my opinion is purely based on bias...

Why did you feel she was in the right? As I said, I did end up really liking Cassandra, but I don't see how she is entitled to know where Hawke is (especially not at the beginning, when she hasn't even explained to Varric why she needs Hawke). Varric was just trying to protect his friend who, honestly, has been used and abused more than enough by those in power.

Eh, I don't think my Hawke would've minded if someone like Cassie bossed him around though, but matters of perspectives.

Lol. Fair enough. I don't think Hawke ultimately minded helping, especially since Corypheus was involved. But I do think it would have gone easier for everyone (Cassandra included) if she had just explained to Varric what the problem was instead of treating him like a criminal right from the beginning. Plus, then there might not have been a separate Inquisitor PC, and we could have played Hawke as protagonist again. And I approve of that

O.o My Hawke would've totally abandoned Isabela if that was possible, so I'm glad he isn't, for Isabela's sake... He would've left her in an instant for Cassandra...

And in that scene he was being a wise guy so it was perfectly understandable she would get upset at that since we see that all the time in reality and other media, and overall in that scene he just rubbed me the wrong way and sure enough his actual character did no better. He never dropped the know it all act and this loyalty you speak of is always self-serving at its heart. He only is loyal to Hawke to first get us to join his expedition and later have a powerful friend to help bail him out, and his reason for being with the Inquisition was because it was going to effect him too. Also in a meta sense he rubbed me the wrong way because they were forcing a Garrus situation where he is your bro. What pushed me from indifference and dislike to severe dislike though is his betrayal of both Hawke and the Inquisitor by not telling Cassandra and later the Inquisition about Hawke.

Well, thank you for answering, but I don't see Varric that way at all (he's no more self-serving than any other companion, and I do see him as loyal in the true sense of the word). Also, he did tell the Inquisitor about Hawke once he realized the gravity of the situation, so there is no betrayal of either Hawke or the Inquisitor there. But since this is Cassandra's thread, not Varric's, I'm not going to get into it any further. I do think Cassandra would have saved herself some trouble if she had told Varric from the beginning why it was so important to have Hawke on board, though.

I do think Cassandra would have saved herself some trouble if she had told Varric from the beginning why it was so important to have Hawke on board, though. I think the failure of communication might have been due to Cassandra's brashness and Seeker mentality overriding her common sense. As a Seeker and Right Hand of the Divine for nearly twenty years, she's long since gotten used to having Mages, Templar and Chantry members fall into line when she approaches them with questions. Dealing with someone outside the normal Chantry power structure, let alone who displayed as independent and obstinate a streak as Varric most definitely threw her off balance. Thus she fell back on her training and approached the situation in DA2 like it was a criminal interrogation (even if technically it was). She demanded answers from him, rather than attempting a more diplomatic route and simply explaining the situation and asking for his help, something she later admits might have had more success.

Cass herself acknowledges she never explained him why she was looking for Hawke right from the beginning and it truly was a mistake from her part. Not that it means Vava would have been any less unwilling to help, though - since he can be quite a pain in the ass. And to answer to the question, the beginning of DA2 didn't make me dislike Cass at all - her whole entrance was screaming "badass" and she quickly became one of my favorite characters. Seeing her interract with Vava became one of the few highlights of DA2 actually, and the "we'll see more of her later" part about her in the prima guide gave me plenty of hopes for the future. And then she became a companion and a romance for DA:I and I was happy.

I think he would have, knowing Hawke would have wanted to know since Corypheus was involved. I mean, he did eventually do that. He might have done so sooner had Cassandra's approach been different. But, I can accept that she made a mistake. I guess she doesn't have to be perfect

I guess she doesn't have to be perfect The Inner Circle (and Varric) only finds out about Corypheus after the Breach is closed for the first time and the Herald escapes from Haven though. Meaning that depending how you played her/him back in DA2, Hawke had little to no reasons to give a flying fuck about the Divine's wishes to use him/her as her trump card in her dealings with the Mage Rebellion - and Vava knew that. Or he thought he did - he can be annoyingly paternalistic when it comes to Hawke. And yes, Cass made a mistake, she acknowledges it herself. She's one of the (very) few characters who acknowledge when she does something wrong, actually.

Varric wanting to protect Hawke from the Inquisition might also have been due to wanting to spare his friend getting roped into another chaotic adventure, as he has been due to being forced to go to Haven as Cassandra's prisoner. (A mutual tendency to end up in insane situations on a regular basis is probably one of the many reasons Varric and Hawke have such a sense of kinship. The two are such prolific walking disaster magnets, makes me wonder if the Seekers and Qunari have each compiled a hefty file on them) I really wish that Cassandra had been given a scene with Hawke or attempted to invite them into the Inquisition, even if only as an agent. It's one of the largest missed moments of awesome in Inquisition, especially if you trigger the autograph banter in Crestwood with Hawke present at the time. Made me yell at my computer the first time that happened; "Cass, Hawke is standing right next to you! You don't have to ask Varric, they are right friggin' there!"

That was one of my biggest disappointments in the game actually. I was looking forward to her squeeing upon seeing Hawke. XD Oh well...

I liked playing Trepassser - it made me realise that my canon doesn't like Qunari at all (and he didn't care for Solas at the time, I actually think Solas drove some of this angrier and digust, actually). And he than out of patience at everyone at the end of the game, and ended up throwing a hissy fit at the Council (aka angrily disbanding the Inquiston, by throwing the Inquistion book on the ground). My cassis romance successfully acted like a child in Trepasser.. My others will have more patience than he shall have...
