It really hurts me how bad this game is. I just. I keep going back to play it, to try and get into it, and I sit there and I just... it just hurts. I am positive no one set out to make a bad game, but I'm entirely sure they attempted to make a good game in the wrong way.
I just hope this isn't the end for BioWare, I really do. Actually or metaphorically.

Since launch there has been a huge amount of criticism about ME:A
Let me tell you why...
Expectations
If this were a game developed by a small independent developer that no one has ever heard of it would probably get rave reviews by players. But its not, its a AAA continuation to a highly successful game franchise made by an established developer with a massive fan base that has been anticipating this release for 5 years.
Why is this different? Let me spell it out for you.
It’s quite simple, you have a massive budget to deliver an amazing product and everyone knows it. Unlike the small developers, you can use your established staff of top notch designers to create a masterpiece if you wanted to. But you didn't do this. All throughout the game there are obvious signs that this game was built as cheap as possible.
We know this because:
a. Cannot customize squad members b. Cheap Character Creator c. Low budget Voice Actors d. Bad Animations e. Sub-Par Dialog compared to your other releases. f. Many other things throughout the game scream WE SOLD OUT TO PROFIT.
Now for a independent developer these things are acceptable. But for you they are not. You are fully aware that you would sell a TON of copies of this game and will bring in enough revenue to make a killing. Everyone knew that this game was going to be successful financially. There was literally no risk for you. When an independent developer releases a title they have no idea what they will make but you guys do!
When you skimp out on quality for a game like ME:A you are telling your dedicated fans 1 thing. We value profit margins above quality, this is not the Bioware that developed KOTOR, SWTOR, and NWN.
Another reason is you are continuing a series that has already been successful and has millions of fans. You have had 5 years to learn from your fan-base what they want in another ME:A game and in some ways you have succeeded in improving many areas of ME but in others you have failed miserably.
The independent developer making a game from scratch has nothing to start with, but with ME:A you have a template that has worked in the past with a slew of games. This is a huge advantage, but also it raises people’s expectations.
In the end, you used your own template for success and failed.
The reason your games have been successful in the past is because of the story, dialog and voice acting. So many of your games will live in our memories forever because of these things. Some of these were early successes when you had much lower budgets and you still showed us that you could write good stories and do RPG in a fun and interesting way. Delivering a game like ME:A with such a huge budget and ending up with such low quality in these areas is simply unacceptable and your fans are calling you out on it.
For ME:A this is a huge step backwards. Your fans expected top notch voice acting, great dialog and improvements across the board. We didn't get this and we waited for 5 years in anticipation. You should have had A-List actors for a few parts and put the best writers in the business on this project. But you didn't, you went the cheap route so you can bank out and improve your bottom line. This is like Star Wars casting Jean Claude Van Damme as Luke Skywalker.
Again, when we see companies do this, the instant impression is "They sold out". This is why you are catching so much shit for this release.
Am i enjoying the game? Yeah, it’s a good game...Let me emphasize "good" game. Not great, not legendary, not "special" in any way it’s just a "good" game.
For us longtime fans of Bioware, we are disappointed in you right now. You had the staff, the budget, the technology, the experience and an already successful franchise and delivered a "good" game. You had everything you needed to hit it out of the park but you chose to deliver something else.
I say chose because that's the truth, you made the decision to put profit over quality and now you're catching hell from your base. Your fans aren't stupid, we know what you’re capable of and we waited 5 years for a ME that improves on everything the past ones had and that didn't happen. You literally had a guarantee that you would sell a shit load of copies of this game, but STILL you cheaped out on all the areas that made Bioware famous.
So why are many people disappointed? With this release you told all your fans that you are more interested in your bottom line than delivering the best game you can.
Edit: altered title, i do get that not EVERYONE is disappointed.

This is getting tiresome. / sigh Just because you expected more and are disapointed doesn't mean everyone is. You do not speak for us. A lot of us are enjoying it, and are totally fine with it. Much better. Saw the edit.

Yeah, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. It's been four years since I last touched the singleplayer of ME3, and I still remember it's story more clearly than what I've done in Andromeda, and I was playing that a few hours ago. It's an acceptable game, not a memorable one.

It's an acceptable game, not a memorable one. Witcher 3, GTA V and several other franchises did it right and as a result they got 9.5 and 10 star reviews. ME:A should be in that category and unfortunately its maybe a 7 or so imo. Its just a shame that they didn't take more pride in a game so many love.

me:a Reminds of a reskinned ME1. "Oh but used this newest greatest engine. You should besides yourself with joy"
At least the red headed FemSHep that could used as a default in ME3 wasn't scary to look at!
And yes one can do a better job of fixing that in MEA But the game doesn't, to me at least, have the pizazz that ME3 and my 32 play throough's have and had Once the community got a hold of ME3 and fixed a lot of things (Talking about you Star Child) and made an ending that I felt was worthy of the series it was a fantastic game, on top of a great game

voice actors are perfect, the problem, besides animations are boring side quests and exloration, the fetch quests and exploration is already boring and uninteresting in Eos,

For me good Voice acted characters are: Trevor from GTA V, Sera from DA:I etc. Most of the acting in ME:A seems like they didn't see the scene they were acting out and were sort of winging it most of the time. Some voices in the game are just terrible for the character they are representing.

I'm disappointed in many aspects of the game but you are being over the top. Yes this is an AAA game we are all aware of that. Lots of AAA games under deliver in certain areas sometimes, but I don't constantly here people saying "this is an AAA game" in reference to games like fallout 4 for example. Even in AAA productions have to prioritise certain things, Bioware has always done this. Bioware has never had amazing animations or amazing character models ect ect, sure that is especially bad here but if you were expecting it to be amazing because "this is an AAA game" then i'm sorry but you don't know what you are talking about.
"Now for a independent developer these things are acceptable"
A lot of these things seem to be acceptable for other AAA developers, a lot of them seem to be acceptable for previous Bioware titles, just not this one for some reason.
This is worse than the Trilogy sure but are you sure you aren't looking at the trilogy and other Bioware games with rose tinted glasses? Because they don't tick a lot of your boxes either mate.

Oh, this is the hate thread. I'll join in:
Liam (or Cora, can't remember which), when Ryder interacted with a Remnant console to activate a bridge: "Awesome, a bridge!" ...Uh, yeah, it's literally right in front of me, that really did not NEED to be said. This happened at least twice in the first vault. Ditto the manifold stupid banal dialogues when exploring Eos. Many eyerolls were expended at the TV.
Lack of exploring music, c.f. Skyrim's awesome soundtrack.
Lack of musical themes, c.f. ME3's and The Last of Us's awesome soundtracks.
Cora's weird lower arms jutting out at an exaggerated carrying angle. She looks like she had broken her elbows and they weren't fixed properly.
Cora's weird fillers-filled cheeks and lips. Her permanently 'surprised' expression. She reminded me of a particularly b1tchy supervisor of mine who used to go for a 2-hour botox session once a fortnight. She was a b1tch with a smiley face, which made it even more unsettling.
Liam talks too much, and he really doesn't need to. And I was stuck with these two (Liam and Cora) for the first several hours of the game.
The empty, open world of Eos without hardly anything interesting in it. The landscape is bloody dreary. It's a real slog getting around in the Nomad.
Having said all this, the game seems to improve somewhat afterwards, so I'll reserve final judgment until the end. But ooh boy, it's hard to like this game, and I really want to like this game, because it's a bloody Mass Effect game!

The one person I thought would be tearing this game apart would have been Total Biscuit, but he has criticisms for the game, but at the same time he is saying he has enjoyed Eos.

On the other hand, I don't like Scott backstory, and I prefer Sara's. So, I lose either way. That's all this is really about, expectations, different for everyone.
