Put in an hour or two more, touched down on my first planet and am pleased to report that I'm finally enjoying my time with the game. NPC chatter is frequent and informative, combat is challenging and early exploration is fun. Much more like it from by point of view, though I'm still seriously bothered by the relentless jank. Ok, so having put something approaching 10 hours into Andromeda, I now find myself agreeing with those saying that the game just isn't put together all that well. Broken missions, cumbersome crafting, janky animations, weak writing, uninspired environments and a virtual fuck-ton of bugs do not a fun experience make.

The forum is struggling a little with multiple, 'I hate this game' / 'I love this game' threads. Expressing those views is, of course, fine, but multiple threads covering the same ground is obscuring other threads addressing specific aspects of the game. So this thread is for general feedback along the lines of 'dislike or hate' the game. That doesn't prevent, civil comment from those who disagree, but it sets the tone for the conversation. Duplicate threads may be moved in here. Honestly, when I can get past the glitches and performance problem, I actually really like the game - certainly like it more than ME3. I think once the games issues are sorted out it'll be a joy to play. One glitch I really want sorted out is the Save Game issue on XB1 - I still can't start a new game without what I've done in my first playthru bleeding through in to it, causing things like missions to start earlier than they should - For example, I just got on board the Tempest for the first time, and talking to the doctor has triggered the final part of the Movie Night mission for some weird reason. It happens on New Game and New Game+, so short of deleting the Save file on my XB1, I can't start a new game. Same thing goes for NPCs spawning before they should in some locations causing them to spawn in the same place in some instances.

''Every time when someone tried to hide political agitation behind the subject of art, it turned out very poorly.''
The most un-informed pile of horseshit i've read for awhile. One example straight off the top of my head, Dune, one of the most revered works of scifi literary art of all time, was based in the environmental politics of the times. Damn near every piece of art reflects the politics of the creator, and the influence of the major politics of the times, in some way, be it consciously or sub consciously.

Yeah there's assuredly no politics in Star Wars or Star Trek or HZD or the Original Trilogy or any good art. Good point. Eyeroll.

"Bringing politics into their games"
The elephant in the room. Furthermore I would go as far as to say BioWare's political insertions are biased and that is why they stink.
BioWare would never force a transgender into the game and let the player say "Get outta my face". They don't allow for both sides, and thus they're disingenuous about the way they go about it. They won't force non-ideal women faces into their games AND THEN allow the player or one specific companion to be smoking hot like Yennefer in Witcher 3, because it's a bias. That's the problem. A political statement in video games is pandering unless you provide the player with the choice to avoid choosing it. You just can't make a game about making choices and then force a specific angle of an idea onto them. Funny enough those moments whether they're political or not always gets the most flack from fans whether it's the ME3 endings, Kai Leng or joining Cerberus.
This is why Paragon/Renegade stank because BioWare were the ones getting to decide what should be morally "good" and morally "evil" so it's an author's bias. This is why the new dialogue in Andromeda stinks because they pretend it's more grey but the narrative and its moral decision making within is STILL biased towards shunning "the wrong thing" in the tone of the story.

In the context of the narrative he's spot on. It's one thing to explore political issues that may or may not be in a futuristic sci-fi space fantasy, and another entirely to inject current day polarizing political agenda. Also, it's not an "objective" vs "subjective" analysis. It just turns people off - and at the end of the day, it's gonna come down to sales. Whether they continue to implode or start afresh is up to EA/Bioware.

These things are not in service of the immersive story they're telling - it's in service of reality in the most unsutble way possible.

I guess you're new to science fiction. Using fantastical or futuristic settings to express a point of view regarding current political/societal issues is a staple of the genre.

I think you guys are looking at this the wrong way. They aren't inserting anything into the game that doesn't exist in reality. They aren't putting gay people in the game for the sake of putting gay people in the game. They put them in there because they exist in reality and there's no reason to leave them out. Have no gay people would be pandering, it's just pandering to people who don't like talking about gays. They are just using a more realistic representation of people who might be on this journey. You don't think there's political themes in Deus Ex with "Aug lives matter" and HZD with themes about artificial intelligence and climate change? Come on.

Actually they kinda are putting gay people in for the sake of putting gay people in. Realistically homosexuality make up roughly 2% of the population. So 1 out of every 50. Yet half our crew is gay. How is that realistic? Transgender is even lower yet we run into someone on the very first planet. How do we know she is transgender? Because she goes out and tells us straight away.

Omg some of you people have serious issues with reality. When I read articles like this, all I read is "Anything different from me and my belief system is wrong and must be ignored/swept under the rug/invalidated/etc. Mere mention of one of these 'different' things makes me feel like an agenda is being forced on me." Facts: -Homosexuals exist. -Strong women exist. -Ethnic minorities exist. -People experience life differently based on many factors. Not every character has to be a straight white male. If a character is not a straight white male, that does not automatically make the character one-dimensional. If a character mentions the fact that they're homosexual, it does not mean that's all there is to the character...if you choose to see it that way, that's your issue. Putting a homosexual character in a game is not forcing an agenda on anyone. A player's decision to focus solely on the fact that a character is homosexual may indeed make the character seem one-dimensional to that small-minded person, but again...that's their issue, not the character's. Get over yourselves...

I'm confused. You seem to be suggesting that if Bioware is going to include any trans characters in the game, for the sake of balance they should also give the player the option to express bigotry toward this character. However, that's such an incredibly stupid (and not to mention offensive) idea, that it can't be what you actually mean, right?
