It's incredible. No matter what I do in the game, I discover subplots, big and small that are simply interesting as well as fun to play and have characters that feel alive and appeal to the emotional Q. I've just done large subplots with Salarian and Turian Arcs, the Meridian, Ryder's personal story and then went into a tiny subplot for Salarian Arc, and I feel both invested and curious. And then there was a tiny Gil-Kallo stuff, really insignificant to the whole plot, but OMG, so good. I have never seen a game with characters being that alive. Just... so good. I feel like committing a crime and admitting I love it more than ME2/ME3, despite Shepard and Thane being forever seared in my heart as the most beloved ever protagonist and LI. Yes, so weird. Love protagonist and LI much, much, much more in ME2/3, but the world of the game itself, all the characters (including the Ryder) make me love the Andromeda more. Shepard will always be Shepard but Ryder is holding his/her own. We will always have the Normandy AND the Tempest! I'm on my 2nd PT with Eva Ryder (misswrote Shepard first but I am actually on a PT with Eva Shepard as well (ME2 nearing the end)) and she is developing in an entirely different way. Franco was all emotions and impulsivity whereas she is all logic, calculating and professional early game. Of course Franco had to take on more responsibilty as the frontier opened up. We'll see how Eva handles her new life and her new job.

I know that Ryder has some range. but overall, I like Shepard's towering background and grandious personality more. Not to mention Thane's romance that turned the game into a grand drama going on wuxia for me. It's not that it is Shepard vs Ryder, it's more like Shepard vs Andromeda for me. When I think about the Trilogy, I think: "OMG, Shepard, Shepard, Shepard!" When I think about Andromeda, I think about tons of different things. MET is like a tragic Opera, while Andromeda is a symphony.

'I hate this game' / 'I love this game'
Like it.
For a console game it's pretty fun. Very engaging. I'd give it at least a 7/10. Eight, if they polished it up.
It would need a lot more content for me to 'love' this thing. It has issues.
Bad writing always bothers me. But even if you look at the gameplay as a whole, there are really only two boss fights in the game. And you fight those two bosses over and over again.
Architects and Cardinals.
Visuals, sound, and the much improved third person camera are the things that I really like.
That third person camera makes Witcher III's third person camera look like a joke.
They finally got that part right.
Mass Effect was known for having the worst 3rd person camera in gaming.
Not any more.

Despite having to basically repeat the whole of havarl and veold (due to a previous 1.05 bug wiping out all viability) I am enjoying going through it again, and actually noticing things I missed.
Nearly caught up to where I was a week ago.

Hey so did this immediately happened when you fired up the game, or did it occur at a specific point in the game like the final mission or something? It happened when I was finishing up havarl- ingame the turian wreckage quest reappeared, then the memory sheds reset and then I noticed all the viability was gone and I was back to starter quests all round. So in had to go back to a chapter save which was unaffected (aya). There's no specific trigger it seems from reading around, and silly me was just using one save as I went along. Not falling for that anymore!

Good to know. I have so many manual saves, though I always do that regardless of the game.

When experiencing virtually no bugs or glitches, this game is amazing. I've already completed three Tasks that were bugged on my initial playthrough. Without the constant hiccups, and with the improved visuals, this game has definitely moved into the top spot among ME games, for me. No, I'm not yet as invested in the characters; but if they return (at least some of them), I'm sure I'll grow to love them like the first Normandy crew.
Both the world-building and the gameplay are top-notch. I even like the CC, having truly dug into it. I'm all for improving its features (or at least expanding its content), but this CC is deeper than it superficially seems. My current set of twins look amazing, and nothing like the facial scans upon which they're based.
I've now advanced well into my NG+, with the first three worlds at 100%. After investing in the "Extra Components in Each Crafted Item" AVP perk, I've finally crafted multiple Level X pieces. (I'm level 86.) I have customized gear for my three primary builds, now. What a difference my Level X Sweeper makes over my Level IX Valkyrie! I'm glad to get back to the Sweeper, after many levels with my Valkyrie. The rest of my loadout is pretty fun, as well.
I hope people play this game once it's fully patched. In its current, "halfway there" state, it's already excellent. It's worlds better than the initial impressions/reviews indicate.

I have two quests in my Journal, now. I want double XP! I noticed that we can sell special items for zero credits. I'll check my inventory post-movie, and see if there's anything to sell. Maybe that's the easiest fix, for now?

Well i made my first mistake in a side quest. But aside from Origins i don't think it was possible to really make the 'wrong' choice in a Bioware game.
Other than that though i do think with me completing 'dissension in the ranks' and hunting the archon the last chance of the archon/ the kett to be sympathetic bad guys has gone away...which is a shame because bioware has done it before. Even Corypheus was very sympathetic to me.
Not done with Ryder family secrets but reached the point where they talk about the benefactor. Lots of questions. Spine tingling moments.
And the save system is starting to piss me off...

And the save system is starting to piss me off... The save system is annoying as hell. I rarely die, now, having multiple effective Favorites and high-level gear. Some of the really dangerous kett encampments on Voeld can be iffy, if approached the wrong way. I imagine that "Backup Life Support" was designed for Insanity w/Level 2 Cold conditions. It's a shame that it does absolutely nothing. At least those fights had extra drama, I guess. Still, even without dying, the save feature is a nuisance. It autosaves invisibly, sometimes often and sometimes not. More importantly, it won't let you create a manual save for an unreasonable amount of time, afterward. It's pretty annoying for someone like me, who maintains a constant rotation of four manual saves. I don't believe that the delay is due to the autosave still accessing the HDD, since I can always load the most recent autosave. Just let me save as I wish, BioWare!

Just started New Game Plus, Insanity Difficulty. The first go around was fun, but I'm ready to be challenged.
I'm especially excited to listen to all the banter I missed (like how the squad feels about my romance with Cora), as well as change up some of my decisions. One of the things I love about the game is not feeling tied into Paragon or Renegade.
I *was* going to wait for more patches, but I found the gameplay too much fun.

Honestly at this point the ONLY three complaints i intend on bringing up in my review is the archon and the kett/ the bugs/ the save system. What's frustrating is DA I had a lot more flaws but still the better game because these flaws are really bad. I want this to be a tier one game but in the past i have taken an entire tier from games with similar save systems. And i am having a blast with the game but that alone is almost inexcusable to me and i hope to not have to give it a tier 3 rating because of this.

Honestly, I already enjoyed it more than DAI even with the bugs. (I hate DAI's gameplay, but love its writing, lore, and world-building). Now that I'm getting to play virtually bug-free (I hope it continues), it's been great. I hope that they make this game "right" sooner rather than later. It's too good to be marred by sketchy performance. One thing DAI showed me is how much better a game can become after one year of support. I'd sold my game in disappointment, and decided to retire from DA as an IP. Then, as the old BSN was dying, I got drawn back in by talking with Solas and lynroy. Coming back to the GotY Edition was like playing a different game. They'd added so much, and fine-tuned the experience from beginning to end. MEA is already really good, in my opinion. I can't wait to see what they're able to do with it, assuming good patches and extensive DLC.

That being said this game is doing so much new and unique...it's structured like a very good tv show...and i hope bioware improves on it instead of trying to change it due to the complaints and scrap all b these truly magnificent design decisions ala DA 2. As far as inquisition is concerned...people probably know why...but the game is just magic to me. Honestly. And a lot of the magic really probably comes down to Trevor Morris and his magnificent score. Its going to be hard to beat...but i am looking forward to BW trying in DA 4 and MEA 2.

OMG the save system just killed my spirit and I gave up for the night. I was doing the Kett base mission on Voeld and destroyed all the hangers with the stupid consoles (a pita w/ new waves of enemies constantly) and halfway through killing the boss and he catches me and kills me in his bubble or whatever . And the auto-save is before I enter the room! Why didn't it save right before the boss!

I had a similar experience with the Ascendant on Eos, originally. I was kicking his ass, and then he got me with a synced kill. I learned a lesson, that fight. The fact that I got booted all the way outside of that fortress, and every dead kett respawned, was not pleasing. I had already wasted too much time, not being aggressive enough, on the initial pass. Getting booted backward 20+ minutes of intense fighting, or longer for "exploration", is maddening. I played the Voeld Base last night. It was so incredibly easy that I wondered if I may have completed extra side quests that made it so. My Sentinel build (Insanity) is definitely more durable than my Adept build, but there seemed to be fewer enemies. I'm not sure what happened, but the "endless waves" never materialized. I'd kill a dozen foes, and wait for more. I never once got interrupted at a console. Maybe having Level 70 squaddies helped more than I realized?

My DA:I is a GoTY, and I just never really found much purchase there. About the only really happy memory is Dorian and that they gave me Legacy DLC for DA2 for free with purchase of the GoTY (Legacy was awesome!). I simply do not experience negative emotions when I play Andromeda vs Inquisition where I suffered from continuous frustration. Maybe they just toned down the OW to the level when for me personally it becomes engaging vs boring-frustrating-annoying-PoS. I love playing on almost every planet in Andromeda, while in Inquisition I skipped as many areas as I could, because I hated the pointless, silent exploration so much. I felt that I saw my valuable time stolen from me for no reason. In Andromeda I am adventuring and I am entertained. In inquisition I am supposed to enteratin myself, I supposed, creating a narrative for the area somehow and imagining things as my party closes interminable rifts and reads text messages to collect this and that... The voiced quests with quest givers but without cutscenes are hitting the right spot for me between hooking me up and it being unnecessary repetitive if they just had a talking head instead of each convo. Or if they fancifully animated each sidequest... I dunno, never seen anything like that, but I would probably skip forward past the fancy bits if it was EVERY dialogue. I like fancy bits in rare, special dialogues... Also, while folks commented on rather mellow crew in Andromeda, I enjoy it, because the "edgy" characters that fans tend to adore bring up the worst in me, and ruin the game for me (like Morrigan and Miranda). I am so happy that Cora is likable and shares my interest in gardening, silly as it may seem. I am itching to tell her that eking a garden out of desert is going far harder and far more rewarding than she thinks... instead of screaming like I was set on fire when I saw Morrigan in DA:I and hating, hating, hating on the game that she is now apparently got to be a good mother too and OMG, likable because of it. It's just felt widely inappropriate to hate a character that is supposed to be helping the PC so much. Is it my fault that I feel that way and do not "understand" her and fall into a puddle of mush because she suffered? Anyway... I just love mild, friendly and amusing tone of Andromeda, and the sense of wonder the OW there actually inspires in me. :) I am starting to plot a second PT with a male lead. I think I can make it awesome with the foreknowledge I have from my first run

That's it! Domi has just won the thread, especially the part about Morrigan (<-- Leliana fanboy over here!) Sooo I was driving around Kadara, minding my own business when... I encountered some dudes acting reaaally weird with a datapad. Crackheads was my first thought, until I hotfooted it over to a nearby building and discovered a couple of Cerberus rejects!
It felt great turning that device on them! XD

Right! Time to rez this thread (after all, we cant have the negatron threads hogging the entire front page! ) So I'm still plodding along with my first play through and I'm still having an absolute blast! I've been really taking my time, soaking up the atmosphere, but I now have every world at 100% viability and everyone's personal missions wrapped up. So far my favourite was Cora's, although Liam's almost pipped it to the post! Tomorrow I'll be jumping back into the main story, so I'm super stoked for that!
