Yeah ignoring all the stuff I've said people seem to ignore about the tangible tactical usefulness of having an armored ground vehicle for your ground forces is vs some annoying hovercraft or something that flies (where the Tempest can fulfill that role perfectly well). The Tempest cannot fulfill the role perfectly, its way too big and cumbersome for a low altitude run & gun operation, strafing etc. Every time you use the Tempest for this role you needlessly endanger the entire crew and equipment of the relatively large vessel (Makes a huge target), instead of using a small drop ship with a small squad on it. Way too risky. The next problem is if you go down and dirty with the Tempest itself you have no command base in orbit that monitors and controls the whole ground operation, and possibly provides the ground team with orbital strikes. Also if the tempest gets damaged you have no backup, if you use a small ship though and it gets shot down the Tempest can send down a second rescue vessel. Using an wheeled APC makes as little sense as risking a large vessel like the Tempest on ground operations in possibly hostile regions. An, armed, nimble drop ship that has a small APC on board simply makes the most sense from a tactical and logical standpoint.

If your talking about like bombing runs or precision air strikes Tempest can do that. The Normandy can do that, the Normandy HAS done that. If your talking chopper like support then yeah I'd rather have a Kodiak like ship with some guns on it. Unless the Tempest is well larger then the Normandy though It's not gonna fit a flying vehicle that's also capable of housing a Mako inside it. But then I've been saying having a Kodiak with guns and the Mako with guns would make the most sense in the back of the Tempest. That or make the Tempest a fuck load bigger and get something else twice the size of the Kodiak to carry a Mako around as well. We'll just nest-egg the shit outa this place. Either way don't care, I'm just happy the Tempest is actually going to be landing on planets and not always hiding in Orbit.

you still have wheels because a hover vehicle has some kind of displacement field that literally pushes waves of gravimetric energy to the floor that crush anything and anyone underneath them.... thrusters might move said hover vehicle but its that repulsion action that keeps it in the air, (this assumes your talking about an all terrain any environment type vehicle rather than one that utilises an air cushion) and you can literally take a big ass brick shape and make it hover (can be done today using magnetics as well to provide the anti gravity effect just look at maglev trains) as to the guns they speak about that in the various ME games, they managed to make them unlimited ammo weightless guns but those created problems like the gun overheating and becoming a giant pyrotechnic, that enthusiast weapons only fire one or two rounds to make you the best shot around (and of course have massively amped up stopping power compared to other gear their size) about the only thing I was surprised with in the entire ME universe was the lack of lazer /plasma type weaponry give how slug throwers operate in a vacuum or where gravity is changeable, you wouldn't want to be say on an asteroid and shooting whilst running /jumping in an infantry action because you pull the trigger and your catapulted backwards ...... sure your bullets fly forwards but only at half speed.... yet slug throwers would be perfect for atmospheric action in gravity, where the thermal clip idea would be perfect (and of course the top of the line weaponry would get much better thermal wear out of the clip packs, rather like the n7 gear does) lets hope that ryder comes with a full load out of N7 weapons and improved jump attack armour capabilities over what the truians developed in me3 as to the whole guns o nthe mako thing, I was rather hoping to finally see an m29 grizzly would be in ryders arsenal as the tank of last resort

Additionally, the timeline has not advanced technologically for those frozen in cryosleep. Five hundred years passed in cryosleep doesn't mean much in terms of developing new technologies to replace the old. Maybe on Earth they've reinvented the wheel, but not on the Arks. They've been asleep. Edit: took so long posting, I got Ninja'd on this part. Rider: "We're going on a 500 year mission to Andromeda to save our species and explore a new galaxy!" *500 years pass in cryo-sleep and they wake up in Andromeda greeted by the Alliance* Alliance Scientist: "Oh, while you were sleeping, technology advanced another 300 years, and we got here 200 years before you did. We've already explored everything, there's nothing for you to do here." Rider:

If I can upgrade the Mako to look like this while listening to some Ozzy with the radio full blast
I won't complain. Since the look of it is very different from the Mako in ME1, I wonder if this new one was specifically built for the people going to Andromeda.

Man I definitely hope we get some sweet paint job options. I definitely imagine the Mako version was made for this trip or was a non-weaponized off-shoot that already existed. Just makes sense it would be a variant on an existing vehicle, cheaper to develop that way (in realsies) then going completely from scratch. They've mentioned customization, really hope we get to see how customizable it is whenever 'soon' ends up being.
