Out of curiosity has anyone tried the enhanced edition romances? Rasaad and Dorn add two new options for female characters technically though I have no idea how good they are. Oh, and Hexxat in BG2 for a same sex option. This is old but I thought I'd answer anyway. The only EE romance I've completed was Dorn (with a male PC, but afaik his track with a female PC is the same), and I loved it. Such a hammy supportive murderhusband. I've seen some Dorn fanart on tumblr and I certainly see the appeal :dirty: Now I really need to finish that second playthrough. There's still so many companions I haven't had in my party at all. Part of the problem is turning away Jaheira, Minsc, and Imoen since they all have reasons to help hunt down Irenicus.

Glad I'm not the only one huhu. :dirty: My main Charname is kind of a selfish evil prick with daddy issues, and he doesn't have a lot of patience for good-aligned characters so kicking them out of the party so he can surround himself with sycophants and crazy people is easy for him. He doesn't care about Minsc's revenge or anyone else's, only his. :ulikeit:

Time to boot up BG again. I know it's lore-breaking but fuck it, I want CHARNAME to be a tiefling or drow this time around. Thinking of going the sorcery route since my bf is a giant hulking blackguard half-orc. Well, you could just roll an elf and give yourself drow coloration. You wouldn't have their magic resistance, but ...

Just finished playing the enhanced version of the series and i can honestly say that Baldur`s Gate 2 is still one of my favorite games of all time! Some thoughts about the enhanced versions: The dragonspear expansion was interesting and had some fun characters but it`s was not mind blowing. Regarding the new characters in BG1 and 2, i liked them and they were interesting. It`s a shame Baeloth was only available in BG1, i really liked that crazy sorcerer. And it was fun to have a bear companion, i think i have to make a Ranger or a Druid playthrough in the future and have Wilson as my character animal companion . I found both Neera and Rasaad`s quests interesting but i especially liked Rasaad`s. I also tried Rasaad`s romance and although it was nice and sweet throughout the game the ending was a bit depressing :smh: . I hadn`t played much with Hexxat and Dorn cause i was playing with a good alignment character.

Baeloth is the character, I like the most from the new ones. Dorn is okish, but a bit much sometimes. Rasaad was interesting, but I hadn't room for him in my party anymore, when I picked up Coran, who is a must have in most of my parties. Neera, I kicked out after ten minutes or so, she was really going on my nerves. The voice is kind of shrieky and she won't stop talking. I like companion interaction, but hers was just so annoying, so I kicked her out the first time, the second time, she killed herself in that starting fight in Beregost, so problem solved itself I haven't played BG2 with the new companions so far, but I really look forward to Wilson

I beat the game, loaded all the characters into BG2... and then decided I wasn't happy with the party setup. So I'm gonna do BG1 again with another full custom party... and try to take it a bit slower this time and maybe also do Dragonspear. -Halfling Fighter/Thief - I need a thief. All available skillpoints for the Shadowmancer will go to Hide in Shadows/Move Silently. -Half Orc Fighter/Cleric - tank, buffing, healing -Gnome Cleric/Illusionist- Offensive Cleric -Half Elf Bard - Free identifies + caster level 40 in the end, impossible to get with mages. -Human Fighter 9/Mage - to get grandmastery in bows -Human Shadowdancer 13/Fighter - Hide in plain sight with grandmastery in multiple weapons. I drool a little. Just not sure yet who I'm going to pick as Gorion's Ward. Probably the halfling, though getting high rolls on it is rather hard Unsure about the Illusionist though, might want a 'normal' mage instead. Also unsure about the Fighter/Cleric to be honest, might also go for Fighter/Druid.

They're hugely versatile with their spell selection.

One funny thing I noted about BG after playing it again for the first time in like 15 years:
It's ridiculous how much the game favours you to be good. The evil solutions most often give you less experience (if any at all), less loot (if any at all) and to boot, you get a reputation loss.

BG1 I chose from Xar, Montaron, Kaghain, Viconia, Shar-teel (men are pathetic), Dorn and Edwin BG2 Korgan (my favorite dwarf of all time) Viconia, Edwin, Dorn, Hexxat and Sarevok Your reputation has decreased by 2 Korgan: Aye this be a grand enough lot, mayhap I won't be needing to kill you all anytime soon, lol.

When most games are dead and forgotten after five years, we are still talking about BG, SOA, and TOB nearly twenty years later. Truly the greatest game ever, and the ancestor of so many great games.
Look at Morrigan and tell me she isn't half Jaheira. Look at Leliana and tell me she isn't three quarters Imoen. Look at any Dwarf in any CRPG and tell me he or she does not count Kaigan as an ancestor.

Surely there's more Viconia than Jaheira in Morrigan Her mantra that love is a weakness is pure Vicoina, but I think Morrigan is a hybrid: A Witch Of The Wilds (Druid) with all of Jaheira's angst and wit, and Viconia's morals and outlook. Likewise, Leliana is an Aerie/Imoen splice: A chantry sister (lay priestess) who is also a rouge.

Bioware does like to repeat their archetypes, particularly with the romances. A fairly large percent of romanceable ladies seem to be either really bubbly and innocent or an ice queen. Likewise the men most often have an angsty past that they need your character's help to come to terms with, often including some combination of a dead wife/lover or a thirst for revenge.

It's a trope that has worked well, and pleased their fans, except when the make the romance 'unwinnable.' As for the 'men' who have a dead spouse to avenge, that trope also started in SOA with Jaheira losing Khalid. It was a bold choice, you had seen widows as love interests in lit and film, but the widow love interest was always a widow at the start of the story, a lost love of the past. Khalid's loss was very much in the present, as was Jaheira's grief. It was the window into the 'ice queen's' (as you call the type, great line) soul.

Does gain something of a creepiness factor if you go from BG1-BG2, and you're told that Gorion named Jaheira and Khalid your guardians. So you're essentially romancing your stepmother
