I had no idea there were embedded texture sizes. Are you referring to mipmaps? I just use a DDS plugin in Photoshop, and let it do the rest. Whenever I downsized 4096x4096 -> 2048x2048, I would create new mipmaps (12 of them, actually).

No I am referring to when replacing a texture in the ME3Explorer there is the ability to upscale the picture. If you upscale more than just biggest it usually breaks the texture and can give errors. Not sure if it is the same though with the most current version.

In that case, is that overflow error I mentioned common to usual operation of the ME3 Explorer utility, or is it a sign that it's creating errors by using textures too large for it to process?

The second one though not because using to big a picture but more than likely up-scaling more than just the biggest picture which is usually what leads to errors. If you ever get rainbow armor in game this is one of the proofs of this error. An example is say a dds file for Shepards' face mask and in the ME3explorer it would be listed as one picture file and on right click(in old version anyway) would give multiple sizes for same file. Example: Shepard123CB_2048x2048.dds Shepard123CB_1024x1024.dds Shepard123CB_512x512.dds In my opinion to draw the textures at distance. 512 for farther away 2048 for far closer to screen.

I think I see what you mean.
In that case, is there a way to determine if a specific texture mod accidentally does this? Otherwise, is there a way to "fix" files before running them in ME3 Explorer/Texplorer/ TPFTools?
I can think of a few potential culprit mods, but I don't know enough to prove it.

Otherwise, is there a way to "fix" files before running them in ME3 Explorer/Texplorer/ TPFTools? I can think of a few potential culprit mods, but I don't know enough to prove it. Well one of the easiest ways is to start fresh and new with only vanilla files. Then Install the mod that is causing problems FIRST.... I think it is EGM for you. So install it first. Then try running the game with EGM loaded and see if it crashes where it has before and if it successfully goes beyond that then -SAVE & BACKUP game directory. IF IT DOES NOT try downloading the file again. It could be a corrupted download and not working as intended. Then afterword start installing one mod at a time -AGAIN saving the directory each time the game runs correctly. IF it does NOT run correctly delete the most current version of the game directory and restore it via the backup of the previous mod install just before the one that bonked the game. Don't forget to mark the mod off the list that caused the error and bugs. After which try another until gone through the whole set of mod you plan to use. If they fail take note of which ones do and the reasons as to why. The TPFTools "FIX" function does not always succeed and sometimes will say a texture is not found in the tree structure. Another possible solution is to implement extraction and conversion of the textures in texture mod into the dds picture format and then manually and permanently inject them into the game via ME3explorer. Another option is hard-wall manual install... but that should be last resort. All that said it would be my inclination that more likely than not it is either Backoff and or JAM that is conflicting with EGM. Backoff even mentions compatibility patches needed if those other mods are installed.

Backoff even mentions compatibility patches needed if those other mods are installed. In that case, I guess it's back to the drawing board. Although, I can guarantee that it's not a corrupt copy of EGM, since I installed both the October 31st copy and one earlier with no difference. I also went so far as to play the entire game up until the Dream. There were literally no changes to both results. I also installed each compatibility patch, both times paying close attention to the Readme instructions. My standing theory is that the textures are somehow causing the DLCs to break in some way as they are the one part I didn't change. I have a Vanilla copy as well as my installation before adding textures which I will try tonight.

No. I am not meaning it is a corrupt install of EGM but more likely that something you install after it breaks/corrupts it. Can you list all the mods you are using and the order in which you are installing them?

Whew! Looks like my tests were a success. It definitely was one of my texture mods; I am now testing which one it is. BTW, it feels incredible to see a fully populated Galaxy Map. Update: The mods could be, Vorcha and Batarian texture upscale, The Asari Councilor CTHC: Aethyta portion of the clothing overhaul by CDMJC, or Character Texture Overhaul. I don't know the specifics, but the eye textures seem to freeze ME3 Explorer, so I would suspect the eye textures in Character Texture Overhaul as the likely culprit.

EGM rocks. Thanks for the update. I've seen too many issues with textures lately and I don't know why. I admit that once I got my textures working that I haven't messed around with other textures because of all the problems I read. I think most people don't have issues but when they come up, it's brutal since a texture can affect many, many files. Once the standard trick of manually AutoTOCing all DLC and the main game fails, then it's a long hunt and peck session.

CTO has no official versions I can tell, but contrary to what I had assumed, have been using ME3 Explorer 2 since I downloaded it earlier this year.

Heh... That could be my problem. That's where I got the mod.
Ironically, I'm having problems still in using this recent version (The textures will regularly fail due to the aforementioned Memory Overflow Error), but this explains why it caused crashes with version 2. I downloaded it upon the reading of "It works with both ME3Explorer 2.0 and the new Me3Explorer 3.0." on the mod download. Perhaps it was just that my version of 2 was an updated one or that my computer just couldn't use it properly.
Regardless, my crashing problem should be solved. Thank you very much, Deager and VanguardofInfinity for the help.
For the record, the game seems to hate replacing the eye texture (I got red eyes for my PC the last test I tried)

I found out the ME3 Toolset was the cause of all of my problems. It turns out that my computer had too low of RAM, and it was causing the program to break TPFs since it couldn't finish compiling. After a bunch of Reinstalls, all is going well, but now I have a minor (Potentially spoilerific) question. Are the mechs ever going to be used in the story, or are they just there as decoration for your ship? If I could guess they may apply to some level I haven't been to, or they count for your Readiness score at the end. However, I'm curious if there are or were plans to have mechs backing you up in some large land map during a Search and Rescue mission or something similar. I also have a minor visual "glitch" I noticed during my playthrough. A marine plays the sitting animation in the Recreation Cabin (The room with the bar and card table) but he isn't on the proper side, so he walks up and floats in a seated posito n. Oddly enough, later in my game, the chair appeared on the left of him and he then sat in it like normal.
I had a second slightly more humorous glitch happen in my playthrough where the Mako and another vehicle somehow merged. Still it looks pretty cool as some sort of concept vehicle.. I believe this may have been due to me purchasing the Mako after recieving the Hovercraft, and as a reward somehow didn't replace the Hovercraft with the Mako, they were spawned in the same area.
Lastly, there is a minor visual glitch with the position of one of the planets that has also existed in ME2. The planet view shows the sun instead of the planet, and the sun and planet are impossibly close to eachother in the Solar System view
(I had to use Spoiler Tags as my screenshots are freakishly massive, and I ran out of my attachment limit )
I think it might be because the sun is tagged as the planet, or the planet is simply too close to the sun.. Other than those minor visual issues, I haven't had any problems so far with my game using this mod, and am looking forward to actual ground battles for some of the many planets.

I'm trying to get this working, but it crashed my game and after that I couldn't even get into the main menu again so I uninstalled it. Actually removed all mods and did a complete fresh install of ME3 and I still can't. It broke my game so completely that even fully removing and reinstalling it from origin does not fix it.
Anyone has a clue WTF is going on with that? I haven't been able to find any solution to it. The problem appears to be that the game no longer recognizes the mouse cursor. there is only the white windows style cursor, not the ME one and the game doesn't respond to it.

That being said, perhaps you could leave a note for the author of the mod at NexusMods?

Thats what I was thinking too, but since I have played the trilogy for hundreds of hours without an issue, started modding and now this, it must have to do with something surrounding that. I mean its quite possible I've done something wrong seeing how many people use them without issues, but I'm at a loss. How much cleaner can I get my system if I've uninstalled the game via the configuration screen, manually removed any leftover files and folders from both ME3 and the mods, used Ccleaner to clean up any leftover wrong files from anything and rebooted my computer before reinstalling the game? Nothing short of a full fresh windowd install that I can think of, and that seem a little extreme.

sebas379: Have you tried to use the repair function in Origin? That insures that the game is reset to default settings. This way, in case some random file was left behind in a random folder, Origin would remove it.

When that did not help I removed the empty folders that were left behind after uninstalling and searched my computer for any remaining files with "mass effect" in them, if they related to ME3 I deleted them manually, then ran Ccleaner to get rid of any hidden references to removed files etc. I've been as thorough as I can possibly think of being, short of a full windows reinstall. Thats so baffling.

Update. I now really have no idea whats going on. I quit messing around with it yesterday, planning to continue the fight today. I got back home, fired up ME3 to see the problem.....It's gone. Vanished in thin air. I'm completely clueless as to what changed, but glad to report the game at least works properly again. Think I'll lay off on the mods for now though, if y'all don't mind

Here's a copy n paste from the other EGM forum on BSN.
I have a problem and I think it is EGM that is not giving me Citadel Shore Leave message from Hackett. I looked into EGM settings txt in binaries folder like it said and change the start of Citadel DLC: Shore Leave to Post Horizon which is "4". But for some reason it still won't give me that message despite the fact that I have finished the Horizon mission. I dunno why its not working. I really want to play the Citadel DLC. The DLC is installed of course. I haven't played the Main Priority Cerberus base mission yet. I dunno whats going on or whats wrong.
Here are the mods I have installed
EGM + Addons Me3recalibrated BackOff CEM JAM ThaneMOD ("complete" friend version) Better Cabin Music Better Dreams Hair DLCs (actually they are not working tbh. I still dunno what I did wrong.) Miranda - Horizon Armor Grunt - Aralakh Commander Interface Scaling Mod Interface Scaling Addon Individual Cooldowns Mod Bonus Power Pack 1 Heleuss' Hair Textures ALOT Elise's Textures (Kaidan, Anderson, Jacob, Jack, James, Joker, Samara, Zaeed, Common Character overhaul, Asari, Eyes) Some of Ottemis' textures FemShep's Closet - DLC Repacks of Popular Clothing Mods (only some clothing DLCs)
I know a few has helped me before but I'm still having this issue.
