Why do we have environmental warnings? No, seriously. If your suit can stand the cold and radiation of space (somewhere around -270 C), it can handle -40 and radiation on an asteroid surface. Not to mention, SAM's repeated "warnings" might just drive me stark raving mad! If the Nomad can stand the temperature on an airless asteroid's surface, there's no way that anywhere on Voeld should cause it any kind of trouble whatsoever. Real science isn't fun and largely would be a detriment, not a strength, for game design. It's the same reason why no game experience has realistic physics or chemistry. That doesn't mean games won't simulate those systems to a certain degree, but they will prioritize the fun and game experience over realism every single time. Whether deliberate or just carelessness with regard to realism, BioWare decided they wanted to require certain behavior from the player during specific periods in the game (Nomad only on the asteroid and limited exploration of Eos initially). The Technical Director of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild gave a really insightful and thought-provoking lecture about why video games oftentimes create their own laws for physics and chemistry.

This is the question that will never go away. They really should just let the player die and learn the hard way after an initial few warnings.

What's the problem? A talking computer that gives a weather forecast every three seconds? What's not to love? Every home should have one! Pathfinder, there is light rain. Pathfinder, it's raining! It's still raining pathfinder! Pathfinder, it's raining some more! Pathfinder, my senses detect that rain continues to fall! Pathfinder, it's raining!

The problem aren't the warnings, but SAM. The HUD is more than enough for me to notice I'm in trouble, no need to hear SAM's incessant blabber on top of that.

I'm fine with heat or cold hazards, just make them actually threatening temperatures. I went outside in under -40 celcius temps before, with just a hoodie, coat, gloves and boots, if your sci-fi explorer space suit can't take -50 that's a really shitty suit.

Why have the warning on the HUD if SAM is going to tell us every time? And why tell us that we are in cover, near a heat source or away from the radiation? That is why I went there! I would understand if he warned us when the meter went red, that would be useful for the times people are fighting or otherwise forget to watch the meter.

The one that really gets me is Kadara's toxic water. If I'm not mistaken, when you step into it, it throws up an LD50 of ~850mg/kg, which is roughly equal to that of bleach. It soaks through Pathfinder armor and kills them in a matter of seconds, yet I can use it to clean my shower without anything more protective than a pair of rubber gloves.

They want to annoy the frak out of you with these lame ass warnings. Thank you for the 151st time on telling me about the radiation threat that I'm currently absorbing.

It's both, for me. The level 1 hazards are ridiculously close to normal. And SAM's constant nagging, that sometimes overlaps itself, make me want to shove him through a wormhole.

It insta-kills on Insanity. I made the mistake of crossing what seemed to be a small land-bridge in one of these lakes. It turned out that Ryder's foot touched some water. I went from full shields and health to dead instantly. I agree with the general opinion there SAM's warnings are obnoxious, just as his advisory regarding mining is. Tell me about mining one time, that's it. That's what tutorials are. You only need one. Playing on Insanity, the level-2 regions of Voeld can be brutal, if a lengthy fight occurs. That being the case, I appreciate a warning when "life support failure is imminent". That's it, though. I don't need an update every time I pass a heated corner.

For Elaaden, +40C is barely 100 degrees F (102) and 50 C is only 122 F. In other words, saunas are hotter. I've taken hotter showers, I think Exactly what drove me mad about Elaaden. I live in an area that has 50-52 degree temperatures for about 14 hours a day for around five months per year, I live here fine. Add to that I do not live in the hottest area for my own country let alone the world. No wonder Krogan think that humans in the AI are weak, I would laugh at them.

Good question. Because having SAM scream about temperature changes every 5 seconds is a great gameplay experience I guess.

Yeah I don't think Bioware thought that out. Your armor is indeed a spacesuit. And if it can handle the void of space, which has radiation, is far colder and hotter than any planet that we land on, was just a massive oversight.

I gues they wanted us to have some artificial challenges added to fights in hazardous areas, until a vault is fixed. And with hazard 2 they wanted to add artificial boundaries so we dont got there unless they want us to. And maybe they put so much effort and work into SAM, so they tought "we have to reuse SAM voice verytime possible, so appreciate all that work".
Whatever, the posts here made me laugh a lot.
This whole thing is just poor design by choice, heck, if they thought it is necessary, why didnt they include an option to mute SAM. Gamebreaking? Nope. Poor? Yes. And there is a ton of such poor design choices that add up, ending in a big puddle of crap design, which make me not enjoy MEA as I would like to.

That architect fight. Where if you jump out the nomad you freeze to death. So you have to hide in nearby buildings and duck in out of patios to avoid the cold. While fighting an architect. So much overkill. A Krogan wouldn't complain about a hard fight. For me a lot more annoying then hard. After the first time I beat one the rest were easy, if not time consuming and having to worry about hazards just made it more annoying. Hard??? Pffftt

I always thought it was funny that 50 degrees celsius (or 122 fahrenheit), was considered a hazard that could kill you in 10 minutes or less.
I live in Las Vegas and we get temps close to that in the middle of the summer in certain parts of the valley. Granted it really sucks, but being outside in those temps for 10 minutes isn't going to kill you.
I would also assume that the suits, having a "life support system" would have some level of climate control inside them, and that they wouldn't have to work that hard to keep you cool compared to Voeld where its stupidly cold.

I so badly wish I could tell SAM to shut the hell up about the environmental warnings. Worse, they often come late, like when I've moved from heat lamp to heat lamp and it hasn't registered whether or not it's safe.
