You guys make it sound like its a terrible soundtrack. IMO it's not sure not at the same level as the OT however it's a completely new game separate from the others hence the music shouldn't be judged by the OT's music. IMO from what I've heard it's damn good. "the music shouldn't be judged by the OT's music." How do you suggest we judge it, then? The OT set a very high standard for the music - meeting that standard was going to be hard anyway imo - but Andromeda's soundtrack barely makes it halfway. Sure, it's possible to judge how a soundtrack supports its material. But it would be silly to artificially restrict a value judgement like that - especially when there are previous music traditions within the franchise to draw upon. It is possible for boring music to be effectively used. That seems to be the case here.

IMO from what I've heard it's damn good. As standalone music, it is probably not bad. But as in game music, it is not terrible, it is horrible. When players cannot associate the soundtrack with in any game moments - it is horribly bad. Imperial March, the moment you hear it, you can "see" Darth Vader. That is good. Leaving Earth, when I hear it, I can "see" Shepard leaving after not playing the game for 3 years. Good. An End Once and For All... brings back emotion and memories. Good. By these standards, ME:A's OST is not a meh but horrifyingly bad. I see your point but you and others are judging it by impossible standards. I haven't heard the whole thing and I still need to hear it more in game but this whole game soundtrack included was damned from the start like the Star Wars prequels. This game has a completely different atmosphere:ambience than the trilogy and trying to compare it to it will not work. I'm halfway through the soundtrack and found several meaninful pieces. I'll let you know what I think once I'm into the game I just believe everything about this game is judged unfairly with Rose Tinted glasses.

We have "Vigil", "Spectre Introduction" in ME1; "Suicide Mission", "Normandy Reborn" in ME2; "I Was Lost Without You", "An End Once And For All", "Future for the Krogan" in ME3. These still give me goosebumps and teary eyes after more than 5 years. Yet most of the new songs in ME:A seem so easy to forget. They should have hired the old composers. IMO, some of the songs they used on the gameplay trailer are better than the OST. For example: Wait, this trailer theme ISN'T in the OST? That's a shame. It's fantastic.

But you just don't hear them in the game most of the time. I always think there is a bug that stops the music from playing.

In general the game is pretty silent, but maybe they did that because listening to an "exploring theme" for 20 hours at a time could be maddening.
I only remember three instances where I noticed the music: 1) When the Tempest was revealed the music sounded very much like the Normandy theme, which made me nostalgic for the Normandy. Probably not the result they were aiming for, but I did like that song and it felt Mass Effect-ish. 2) During the final boss fight I kept thinking that the piano detracted from the "epic feel" they were going for. It distracted me from the game and not in a good way. 3) Every time I start the game I think: "I hate that DAI-ish sad horn music." It's totally not in keeping with the lighthearted adventure/exploration vibe they want. I'd prefer something futuristic sounding played on a synthesizer rather than Lord of the Rings funeral music.
I liked the game very much, but not because of the soundtrack. I think having music that is more like that of the OT would have helped the game feel more like Mass Effect, similar to the "gun out of ammo" sound that they've used in 3 games now. I wish they had used the iconic Avenger whine as well.

A Better Beginning, Trail of Hope and Memories (which is basically bits of A Better Beginning really) are the best with lots of rather generic atmospheric stuff, but I really wish that some of the combat tracks made it in there, particularly the tracks that play during the final assault on Meridian. There's a fun tone there that's strangely reminiscent of Williams' work on Star Wars.

I think one if the shortcomings of MEA soundtrack is the lack of a memorable theme(s) throughout. It's as generic sounding as most movie soundtracks that are made these days. It doesn't have an identity. The tracks run together. The main menu theme is good, but you hear it when you start the game and then not again. I feel it could have been integrated into the rest of the music as an overall theme.
The music in game is just there. If I didn't listen to it out of game, I don't think I would have heard it in game and said, "I need to get this soundtrack!"

I really can't tell because I barely hear any music in the game. That was one of my complaints too. Since patch 1.05 improved. Sadly, MEA is so weak on many fronts criticism is inevitable even about the music or lack thereof.

I can only remember 2 musics : the galaxy map and architects' fights...
I don't remember having at least one music that moved me like what we had on the Trilogy. I mean, come on, "Leaving Earth" almost made me cry at the beginning of ME3...

I don't think the problem was in the music as much as in how it was used. If Vigil played as background music in the elevators in ME1's Citadel instead of when it did it wouldn't be as memorable for us as it is. I honestly think the music itself is great, its use was terrible.

In all the honesty, why are people surprised the soundtrack is 'meh'? Everything else in the game is, so it's only fitting.
"It's forgettable" and "it does not evoke any emotion" can be easily applied to pretty much any aspect of Andromeda - the game is mediocre in every way.
It has been 10 years and still when I listen to some of the Original ME soundtracks, I not only remember when it was playing in game, I want to listen to them more. Hearing stuff from ME2 also makes me want to replay it (I sometimes do).
Play me any single track from Andromeda and I'll just shrug and go back to whatever I was doing before.

Overall MEA soundtrack is very average, but after comparing with any other ME soundtrack is absolutely TERRIBLE. And almost non-existent in the game.

The only thing I remember soundtrack wise is from the trailer in ME2 Heart of Courage. lolz I know at the time they sound powerful, but overall, they are not that memorable compared to a lot of the other stuff I have listened too. (Edit talking whole ME series here) Seriously? 'Suicide Mission' is so embedded in my memory that I can replay it in my head. I'm actually a little surprised, considering how much I love the composer's work on Daredevil's OST.

As many have already stated above, there are two main problems with the soundtrack.
1. It's not bad or terrible or anything, just simply not good enough for Mass Effect. There's nothing memorable as far as the music goes, it doesn't really enhance the experience, and at the end you're left without even a single theme stuck in your head.
2. It's very sparingly used throughout the game. Possibly by choice, but the latest patch notes also mentioned music not playing in certain situations, so there could be more to it.

I did not pay much attention to music in either of four games. The only music themes in vid games that I remember is Icewind dale 1 intro music and Balmorra's theme in SWTOR. I am just not really into music.

I wish they had used the iconic Avenger whine as well. I think the problem might be they wanted something unique to Andromeda and people were expecting it to be exactly like the OT. I think it's good but Maybe not as epic as the OT. There are always missteps in trying something new my bet is it will be improved in the next one.

Didn't find anything memorable about the sound tracks in Andromeda. I expected a lot more from the clubs on the Nexus/Kadara - those are so quiet and virtually non-existent.

The reason there are no memorable stuff is probably because the game is big, most of the time you listen to ambient of the planet while driving or the Galaxy Map on the Tempest, with occasional combat music until you hit a main quest or a cutscene.
My favorite from MEA is probably the Elaaden/Remnant Vault soundtrack.

I am just not really into music. Right? People keep saying all these track names and I'm just like, there was music in these games? I've played the trilogy many times and I'm on my 4th playthrough of MEA, yet the only song I can somewhat sort of remember is the galaxy map theme from ME2. That said, I think I remember there being songs in the MET while I played them, which is more than I can say for MEA, especially considering that I'm still currently playing it.

I always turn the music way down, almost off in games. Same thing with "Film Grain". If I wanted a movie I would watch one. I want a realistic setting to be in without some sound that is breaking my immersion.

when I listen to the music of MEA on youtube, I said WOW that's great music. Problem is in the final game, I heard nearly none of them in my playthroughts, like they would never start, the music that is available on youtube, I do not remember it.
And I am not saying that in a way "the musics are not memorable", I mean I litterelly never heard most of them.
I think that is why some people have problem with the soundtrack, MEA music are by no means the best but it sure is not helping when you do not hear it when you play.

I remember songs like "All along the Watchtower" from the show Lucifer, or from Angel Beats "My Soul, You beats". If you want video game references, "Eyes on me" from FF8, "If you still believe" from Legend of Dragoon, Chrono Cross's "Time's Scar", and finally Wild Arms "Into the Wilderness". I can recall all those songs at a moments notice, but I can't recall any ME songs.

I didn't find the music to be at all memorable in MEA. I don't think it was bad, I just never found myself noticing it, whereas in the original trilogy (and especially in ME3), I thought there were genuinely some pieces that stood out and/or clearly complemented the story or characters.
