Interesting excerpt from Mac interview regarding Andromeda as a series and where it's going next

Sounds like MEA will not continue in MEA2 with Ryder and crew.

Yep! I think the DLC's coming out will conclude Ryder's story, with a Citadel/Trespasser-style one that sets us up for a new MEA story with a new protagonist.

An interesting thing I liked to see him aknowledge is that he likened the length of the crit-path and said it's like ME3 "which is actually one of the shorter ones". I definitely felt ME3 was longer but it's probably super short if you only do the mandatory missions. Granted, ME3's crit-path is gated by the side-story missions on Tuchanka and Rannoch where you at least had to beat one to progress to the main event of those subplots. I still think ME3 had at least like 10 main missions or close to it while this game has like 5 maybe.

Is it me or does it sounds like they are approaching game writing like a Seinfeld Episode. Put characters in ridiculous situations, hilarity follows. I hope I am just reading too much into it.

Nooooooo, they can't do this to meeeee. I love my Scott Ryder; Lord Walters please don't take him away from me just like you did with Shepard. Stahp!

Yeah I get attached too, but I think after the trilogy, they are trying to avoid continuity with the same protagonist and returning squadmates.

Before MEA was even released, they hinted this is what they wanted to do. Seems they haven't changed their minds.

Not necessarily. He said each game would have a conclusion but still Cary on to the next. No reason to think Ryder couldn't continue.

/shrug Its their game they can do what they want with.  I'm sure there are even folks out there that like the approach.  I loved DA:O but this is the reason I never played DA2 and only about 2 hours of DAI after getting it on a $5 Origin sale.

I am so disappointed with this. Why would they change for a new protagonist when they had so much potential for development? It doesn't make any sense. The thing that made mass effect so awesome was the fact that you could follow your main character over the course of several games. Just think about the character and story development will get lost by switching characters. The characters in mass effect became iconic because they had a chance to evolve. Oh, man. I really wanted that sequal.

Well I'd like Ryder to Return but a fresh perspective and maybe even playing an alien could be interesting.

Nope the people that whined about the ending made this happen.

In no part of his interview does he say Ryder is going to be swapped out with somebody else. He just specifically says this is not a trilogy the way Shepard's journey was.

The Mass Effect Trilogy wasn't a trilogy because all 3 games featured Shepard. It was a trilogy because all 3 games shared the same overarching premise: "The Reapers are coming. We must stop them lest we end up like all previous civilizations that get wiped every 50k years" and the protagonist who happened to be the gamechanger in that story was Shepard.

Andromeda however goes game-to-game with its premise. This one was about going to Andromeda and settling in. It ends with that mostly resolved with some lingering mysteries. The next game in this series will have a new "Suppose ______ we must _____" premise. For reference, the "Witcher Trilogy" also just happened to feature Geralt of Rivia in all 3 but the plotline itself was most definitely not a trilogy.

The Family Mystery Plot in this game strongly suggests sequels featuring Ryder rather than switching protagonist. If the final DLC does not resolve the lingering mysteries of Ryder it means Andromeda 2 will continue to feature Ryder.
