Fallout 4 Permadeath survival run (#6) proceeds. A huge change of strategy from the ordinary game. I've learned that 'surprise deaths' happen in Fallout 4, so I've become ultra cautious and have prioritised a build that is a Power Armor tank and has AP and Criticals fully pumped. Carefully followed a path to get Ballistic weave when not in armor. So even with a surprise out of Power Armor, I 'should' survive. Haven't gone to find Valentine yet (or ventured East of Covenant or South of Goodneighbour), totally focused on survivability. Oh, and here's something I've never seen. I suppose it was obvious that this hack would be successful...

Shameless repost from the Skyrim forum but I thought this might be a fun tidbit for you guys to read/look at. So, I am not a big fan of the whole Creation Club concept Bethesda tried to push on us a few years back, nor was I too impressed by any of the content so far but I have to admit, "The Cause" was a nice quest. It's basically a big throwback to TES4: Oblivion. In summary, the Cult of the Mythic Dawn is trying to make a comeback and build a new Oblivion gate. To prevent this, you first dive into an Ayleid ruin (remember those from TES4?) and then you go after the cult's underground temple itself. Turns out, you (the Dragonborn) were part of the key to open the gate in the first place and so as you defeat the head cultist, the gate opens. Now you have to go to Oblivion itself and defeat to Daedra Warlords to prevent a new invasion. They really did a great job re-building Oblivion from TES4. It's got everything, including the roots that strike at you if you come close, the flowers that spill poison, the Bloodgrass, the still beating chained hearts of the dammed (which are basically chests you can loot), etc. It really is a nice blast from the past. Some pictures:

I went back through Thronebreaker. It didn't take nearly as long this time. I think I took 35 hours the first time I played it. I did everything except the quest where you find the missing Dwarves. You loose Isbel if you do that quest, so I just skipped it. i.imgur.com/PjsIOMR.jpg i.imgur.com/XPycWKn.jpg

So hallelujah, I played Skrim SE today and got Sven Sweetalker out of Helgen alive with his Nord mate. After a week of trials and tribulations I managed to get Steam, the game, Vortex and the mods working. The process was trying to say the least: uninstalled the game from Steam, uninstalled Vortex after deleting the profiles and the collection I had downloaded, cleaned up my Skyrim SE drive which thanks to talyn82 I realised has two separate SKES64.exe installations. Then reinstalled the game, ran the SKSE64 executable, ran the game and did everything until leaving Helgen and saved. Re-downloaded Vortex, set up the profiles and reinstalled the collection and then even though the button that is supposed to be blue and was causing me so much consternation was not blue launched the game. Thankfully my save opened, and the game was a very different experience with a plethora of updates about all the mods that had been installed and looked beautiful. Alas it was too late to play by this stage. However hopefully I can ignore my day job (house chores etc.) and get a solid four or five hours in. I am looking forward to it with a bit of trepidation and nervousness as I have forgotten SO MUCH but have put the game on easy for now at least. Going to channel my inner Eivor and go in axes blazing till I get can some bow and stealth skills updated (maybe by the console ) so I can do some one shot sniping. How interminable is the start??? Time to have my head lopped off Saved by the Dragon Escaped by the skin of the dragons teeth

So we decide to climb back a mountain as we seek to get collectibles as well more hidden enemies. Then we head over to the way where Dagan is in order to get ready to finish him off:

God of War RagnarokThis game continues to be an interesting surprise in its own way with things as we see a real interesting change in the status quo in a couple of ways. Unleashing HelBack to Atreus at Asgard with Odin running around. The interesting at least potential emotional manipulation continues as well.
First off as Atreus is walking down to meet Odin he overhears Odin dissing Thor severely. Now here I can't quite make up my mind on if Odin is just this much of a dick to his family and that is contrasting with how Kratos and Atreus acts around each other...or if Odin is doing this as emotional manipulation to continue to get his family to hate Atreus and probably just drive Atreus even more to him in the end. Hmm.
Second Odin/ Atreus has another mission...to Helheim. But this time instead of paring him with Thor he pairs him with Thor's daughter. The person that A. seems to have the hots for Loki and he her and B. is still a very big family loyalist for Odin and co really doubting all the stories that Atreus has to tell her.
Third, but lo they have yet another tag along. Heimdal. The curious part though is as soon as they get to Helheim he ditches them, saying they have another mission to do...which given the rest of what happens I think is something kind of interesting.
So Thurd and Atreus goes off on their own, solves puzzles, fight bad guys. And then they find a wolf. Now not being fully versed on Norse myth I do think Fenrir at first...but that ends up not being the case and it ends up being Garm. And Atreus is who Atreus is does what Atreus does and sets him free.
Which ends up being a catastrophic decision as Garm starts opening holes in reality and causing issues. Heimdal gloats over this. Thurd is pissed. Odin is understanding. But the two curious things Loki's mask stops reacting...almost like it wasn't there to find a piece to itself but to free Garm in the first place (more on that destiny thing) and number 2...no one told him and warned him about the Wolf. I think this could be heimdall poisoning the well but Odin didn't mention it so its not entirely Atreus's fault.
But from there, surprise surprise, he decides to go home. ReunionHe gets home and finds it under siege by Helwalkers. He fights with the rest, his father reunites with him, then everyone jumps down his throat for freeing Garm...except for Kratos.
This sets up a further interesting character dynamic becuase both of them really clearly trust and love one another...except both of them don't either as there is that veil that Kratos has distrusting Atreus over his being with Odin.
The frustrating thing about this is the writing is starting to get a little bit on the poor side because its setting up false drama. Going on from last quest with Garm the 'pro noun game'. Kratos asks Atreus about his time with Odin and vice versa and both of them say 'its complicated. And to be fair from Atreus it is a little bit complicated what Odin is having him do but there is no reason to not share at least some of it. But Kratos has no reason not to tell him about why he forged the Draupnir spear and it might effect the story majorly in the future if Atreus was ever tempted to go back to Odin..."I forged this spear to mount a rescue mission because the Norns told me Heimdal was planning on killing you." That is something Atreus needs to know and very easy to explain, but nope.

I'll check that out. Is it part of the AE Edition? I thought I had that but whatever I did to fix Vortex etc. seemed to have caused me an issue with the AE stuff.

There are two versions of the Anniversary Edition one has only 4 of the mods from CC and one of them is Saints and Seducers, which is needed for the mod above to work. So you're okay. The other version has all of the mods from the CC. I bought the second version because I knew modders would find a use for the new resources.

I'm closing in on finishing the main campaign in Diablo 4 - currently in the middle of ch 6 (last chapter). I think I might do more strongholds and side-quests between ch 6 and the epilogue, if the game lets me do my own thing at that point. I don't expect to do all the side stuff on subsequent PTs with other classes so want to get as much done as possible on the first go-round.

Trails to AzureSo Elie got to be the canon bond this run. Damn you Lloyd the deck is flooded with all the tears you got spilling this session. Inferno Domina is a strong contender for the true final boss. Because it was a pain and a half. But it made me find out that lvl 120 is not the max level and I could’ve grinded some more before this whole suffering deal… Fallen Delacroix might have shared the title, but felt less painful because of the aforementioned knowledge. Got super lucky on the Vermillion, since he summoned his friends the Grendels. Which are the weakest mob he can summon. Hohohoho. The story final boss was pretty painful. The spoilers spoil the fight mechanic but not who he is. I misunderstood the mechanic and thought I’d just have to get his mobs off the table. But no, you need to annihilate them, since if he manages so suck them into himself the boss will get back to full health after killing him. Over. And over. And over. And I don’t even know if he can resummon them if you take too long after nuking them from orbit.
It took quite a few tries. First was really long, since I thought he had phase shifted when he hadn’t so I wasted all my burst orbs on his first form (and he absolutely refilled his health bars a couple of times as well). Then when I managed to drag him kicking and screaming to his second forms last health bar, I had no burst orb and in the attack space I got I simply couldn’t deal enough damage and he fired off his instakill attack.
It was one hour of my life just wasted because of a cheap attack I couldn’t counter. So rage quit that session then picked it up again today.
Still hadn’t understood the healing mechanics so that was some extra suffering. Thankfully I eventually managed to drag him down to his last health and just barely managed to murder him before he did his move. So yay.
In the games defense it auto saves between phases (there are three in a row). So the rage was way less than it could’ve been. But still. Argh. Had been feeling a bit guilty for being overlevelled and steam rolling through the game, but this justified it for me. Got three achivos left. One is for getting them all, one is for playing for 100 hours (missing around 12 I think) and finally get 4000 on the horror ride. Time one is very doable. Horror ride is not. Well sure, maybe if I spent those 12 hours perfecting it but I just don’t want to. Like my best chain is 15, on easy. And you can't restart if you fail. So figure I'll skip it for now and move on to something else.

God of War RagnarokSo the save sytem continues to be...tedious. Had to redo a puzzle and some dialogue this time. Not hard still...tedious. ReunionOn the bright side this game is just...wow...other then that. Kind of a frustrating boss fight from a design perspective but the visuals and the giant visuals of the creatures are so perfect with the combination of the music as well blaring. But we essentially tracked down Garm finally down in Helheim and made plans to stop it. Atreus wanted us to 'tame' the beast. On the one hand I was with the kid because don't want to put a creature down that was chained up but then it was his dumb plan that got us into the mess in the first place so that should've been a consideration on his mind and that Garm is dangerous. And well it didn't work. But also more seeds of mistrust since Atreus was thinking that Kratos sabotaged his plans...but that really didn't last long. Then it was up to Kratos's way. We fought the thing and Atreus did provide good advice for us and was a big help. His plan was to pin his chain to the ground which let us then strike at Garm itself while he was struggling to get out of the trap. Missed a few prompts so it virtually came down to this one hit on me or one hit on him. I won. But it triggered a cutscene where Garm tossed Kratos around like a rag doll...so he should be dead. But then Kratos, in cutscene, got upper hand and him and Atreus worked to pin Garm to the wall...and then break his neck...as we watched the light go out of his eyes...almost nose to nose. Quite heart breaking. But apparently that was not the end of it as Garm was able to resurrect himself and chase us down many of the paths we went through with Thurd. Eventually we faced him down again...got him down about half health...just for him to recharge. So there went my sympathy and my worry was rising up. Again just a beautiful set piece overall. Which ended when Atreus had an idea. He mounted the thing and stabbed him in the head with the knife he had...which surprise contained Fenrir's soul. So he was able to transfer it to Garm so the large wolf is now Fenrir...which was amazing visually to watch this big dog act like a loyal pup. And in the lead up to it we had a debate on changing the things nature. Which is what we ended up doing by sticking a new soul in it. This harkened back to the words of the Norns about our choices being predictable but changing a things nature would entail changing its choices which means its destiny would be changed. Probably. But then this is stuff of Norse myth that I am very familiar with so this is not taking us one step away from Ragnarok...but one step closer to it.

Honkai: Star Rail - Caught up on 1.2's story, maxed 4 units, nearly done the Battle Pass, and doing events. There's a chance I move back into Genshin Impact for 3.8's big event, and 4.0 prep.
FFIX - Cleared Disk 1-2 content, now dealing with the events in Alexandria and Treno in Disk 3. So far I THINK I've done everything I need to do for achievements, even if it meant cheating with autoclickers and the like.

So restarted Skyrim as a new game was required to get all of the MODS working. This is Thomas The Silent: It skipped the start and deposited me in some place called Lorak I think which i fully explored then teleported to Helgen, was weird not doing the start of the game but far less tedious if disorienting. Also the main Quest is not a thing if that makes sense, so you can just go wherever you want so explored The Travellers Tower" which is labyrinthian and a way to get resources and some experience early on. Not sure I explored all of it, was too confusing for my brain but spent an hour in there. Then did a miscellaneous quest to rescue a kidnapped "Tavern Wench" and the journal/map was not very helpful so it took a while as well as taking a while to find where to return her. Ended up in Riverwood and will do the quest there and see where I end up, am remembering stuff as I do it but for the most part it is like playing a new game. Oh and it looks very pretty with all the MODS. Pic's just a few as I kept forgetting to take them.

Trails of Cold SteelDecided to at least give it a go and am someway into chapter 1 already, so having fun with it. Gives me massive Tokyo Xanadu vibes, which makes sense given it's from the same company. Granted it should be the other way around since Cold Steel came out earlier, but played it the other way around so. Went with Hard difficulty since googling said it would be better for me. Then the game does not bother explaining link attacks or anything. You chose hard you little twit, live with it. Granted it did explain it later, but I found it amusing flailing around at a high level. The cutscenes so far are a bit slow, which made some scenes hilarious. Like when the blonde companion walked into Rean, since she obviously saw him then just went going slowly until they collided and she ended on her butt. Or when they end on a slanted floor (45° ish downward) and she's sliding down super slowly. Then he just jumps down the floor and ends up under her. It's tried to explain it as him wanting to catch her before she fell but I'm not buying it. At least he cushioned the fall so she didn't face plant on the ground. Granted bashing skulls with him might not have been much better... Figure this will be a theme, but I was warned at least. Getting a bit of a FOMO feeling from the bonding points, but figure I'll just try to max out Elliot and then see how it goes with the others. Machias is also a strong contender for friendship points since he has a shotgun and the satisfaction I got out of shooting mooks with Elie was immense and she just had a pistol. This is a proper boomstick! Also do like Jusis because he's a little jerk. And Laura is growing on me (really helps that her voice actor did play Margaret in some of the Persona games). The others are nice too. As I was getting the hang of unlocking the orbment skills they switched the system on me. Although reading up on it the changes sound kinda nice since you can stack status effects now, which sounds very appealing. Also like that there can be multiple ailments on a foe (will hate it when it happens to me). Also like how fast the craft points build. Except I haven't unlocked any S arts yet, so can't really go to town, but feel more incentivized to use the craft skills. And Elliot has some lovely crafts. So am quite enjoying myself.

Finished Diablo 4 campaign last night. I'm pretty sure Sanctuary is the most misnomered place name ever. It is anything but a sanctuary lol. At the end of each game, everything is worse than when it began. Stupid cliffhanger ending.
So, post game content is about as massive, if not more so, than the actual game. A whole new set of icons popped up on my map for Whispers, basically dungeon side quests for a particular 'character' in the game. My next goal is to clear all the side dungeons that offer Aspects (there's a lot of them ) and do the rest of the side quests and strongholds. I went back to the first town in the game to begin again. At some point I will move up to Tier 2 for the Capstone challenge for unlocking Tier 3. I'm a wuss and played the whole game on Tier 1. I don't think my char is powerful enough (don't deal enough damage) for the higher levels but we'll see.

Tier 2 barely offers any advantages, when compared to the downsides. If you are around 50, you can do the capstone dungeon. Moving up to Tier 3 is basically a must at 50 because otherwise you cannot find more powerful items and XP gain in Tiers 1 and 2 are just not good enough. But it shouldn't be a problem to do 3 at about level 50. Have fun!

Did some BG3 Early Access to test stuff and tinker before uninstalling it all. I'd play it in a few hours anyway, yay.
Not using the infamous "Karmic Dice" made things feel easier. Or it's the experience I have with the game now.
Apparently all my protagonists so far were unintentionally the only class/race combo that gets a free "Speak with animals" skill. But my launch class won't get it. I am in an existential character crisis 🤣 I love that skill. I abuse that skill. Guess I will have to relegate it to a companion.
I also somehow made Lae'zel (brainwashed master race sorta evilish, but hot lizzard lady) love me on my new character, despite being generally a good boy. Her approval was way higher than on my previous goody character. I think we need a mod that displays by exactly how much each decision affects Approval.

At this rate all future Bioware games will be half done and modders need to rescue it for free.

Ok we are nearly getting to the game cusp and, in the meantime, we decide it is time to finish things with Dagan and then get some exploration done. This is one of the best bosses I have gone up against:

God of War RagnarokReunionBasically got home and the game seems to be really ratcheting things up for being in the end game because like Mimir was like 'hey you might want to take care of other things before going onto Vanheim' over and over...being a little thick about it.
As I also somewhat predicted Freya didn't take the news well that they weren't neccessarily going after Odin/ Heimdall too well. Granted she didn't immedietly redeclare war on Kratos and co but she did run off to Vanheim to help her brother wage war against Odin from there. Yeah she's going to do something unfortunate...
And I did almost forget while we were still in Helheim there was just the most touching scene between Atreus and Kratos as Kratos lamented that he was indeed falling back into his 'God of War ways'. Not just when it comes to wanting to kill Heimdall but also in distrusting Atreus. He appologizes for it and the son says that he does not need to appologize just to be better.
And from there they promise to change their destiny.
Though again there is this ten ton wolf dangling over the narrative. Mimir thought it was quite brilliant sticking the soul in there, but I know better! From there though some neat things and some unfortunate things. Bit odd that the whole 'Hel rift' thing is something to discover via random exploration and they don't give you quest markers. Another game where the protagonist is closing portals to another world while battling creatures from said world. But still quite annoying and I think its a little important. So looked up where to find the solution although getting more random exploration going. Got two more Norn chests as a result and as a funny note revisited the cave where the Norns were, half by accident but it did look familiar. But Mimir questioned why we would do that and Kratos's only answer? He thought Atreus wanted to see the horse. As for the chests one of them had an interesting trick and while I can't say I especially like the chests I do like it that they actully have included different ways of doing the chest. In this case using the spear of Draupnir to get all the little things at the same time considering it was impossible to do them in sequence.

Did some BG3 Early Access to test stuff I was considering buying this until I saw SSD required. I have an SSD but it's the drive with my op system and while technically I have enough space for another 150GB game I prefer to keep it mostly clear. I have installed Diablo 4 on that drive since it is SSD only. With Starfield also needing it, I need to try to install the one I bought a while back when it was on sale. Can always use another TB of storage!
