Out of curiosity, what would you all say is the correct order of the games in terms of modern day story? The times the games themselves take place in is easy to figure out but was curious about the mega story that connects them all together ie modern.

Anyone know who this random dude is that's hanging around at my abode? He's like literally hanging out with them like he is best buds or something and I have no clue who he is Neema did say that Darius was starting to relax and interact with the villagers. Maybe this is his first new friend? I’ve taken to dropping anchor in the shallows below the cliffside home after each PT. I’m trying to embrace this family thing so that I’ll actually care when the Order shows up and burns my house. I want another Templar game, and a proper one. If they want to really make RPGs, they should let us choose our side in the great conflict. I often like the (proto)Templar ideology, but inevitably hate most of the douchewaffles who espouse it. The Colonial/American Rite under Haytham Kenway were cool. The Order in Revolutionary Paris under Germain was cool, even if they clearly had to be stopped. Same for Starrick in London. That sociopath had a proper plan. Let us build our own “control the world” cult, Ubisoft! Yeah I decided to "embrace" the whole family thing and I actually found it quite immersive and enjoyable. I could totally see Kassandra settling down with Natakas and I like how Darius's character was written for it. How good were the animations of the baby!!!! I have no screenshots, FRAPS on that day told me it was taking screenshots and didn't. If anyone has one to share from a Kass PT and could post it for me to save that'd be great.

The times the games themselves take place in is easy to figure out but was curious about the mega story that connects them all together ie modern. Pretty much the whole game series (the main entries not the spin-off stuff) at this point has kept the modern day story in chronological order. Assassin's Creed -> 2 -> Brotherhood -> Revelations -> 3 -> Black Flag -> Unity -> Syndicate -> the Movie (if you want to include that) -> Origins -> Odyssey. Although, Ubisoft pretty much stopped caring about properly connecting them or making a big arc out of them following 3. I like to consider Origins a sort of soft-reboot to the whole storyline with a new character and new set-up.

Rogue also fills in the events between Black Flag and AC3. The latter describes a timeframe in which the Assassin/Templar conflict took a dramatic turn in the Americas. Rogue lets us play in that time and serve as the catalyst for the dramatic changes.

I believe what @hanakoikezawaanako is asking is if the present day storyline has anything to do with the overall arch in the Assassin's Creed series. I can safely say that Rogue's present day storyline "kind of" is part of the main series but not really as it doesn't involve Rebecca, Shawn, Bishop or William Miles. Liberation also kind of has a modern-day involvement, but nothing important.

I was just expanding on Andrew’s comment and expounding upon Rogue’s place in the series, as people often seem tempted to skip it. Also, in regard to the modern day storyline, Rogue is not a direct precursor to Unity. That applies only to the main storylines with Shay and Arno. In regard to the modern day, it was more similar but not directly connected to Black Flag, with us playing an Abstergo employee. Unity introduced Bishop and had us playing as an “Initiate” of the Brotherhood. I’m glad they went back to the third-person protagonist in the modern day, but it’s so terribly written. I don't like Layla much, and hate her supporting cast. They sound like they’re screaming internet memes rather than trying to portray real people. I also don’t like Layla’s implied role in future games.

I recall finding Rebecca cringeworthy at first, but she eventually grew on me. My problem is less with Layla and more with the horrific writing and Voice Directing. Her supporting cast are so obnoxious that I mute whatever I can’t skip. THEY TALK SO LOUD TO THE POINT OF SCREAMING WITH NO REALISTIC PAUSES, SENSE STRESS OR MODULATION. They also speak in lame lingo and catchphrases that annoy me. Lastly, Desmond had a very believable role in the series. Layla, though, is the Chosen One who will bring balance to the Force world? Ugh. Terrible. I think Layla can be easily improved simply by dumping the current writers and voice directors in favor of anyone who can write and direct more natural characters. Even the faceless, voiceless, first person protagonist was better than suffering the company of Dee in Origins and what’s-her-name in Odyssey.

Yep no Chosen One there. At least she hasn't murdered any of her allies yet. Spoilers to follow, so open all ye at your own risk: Desmond used a device to mitigate a solar event. Layla is destined to bring balance to the Force. They feel much different to me, but YMMV. The presentation is a big part of this. The writing for her “destiny” scene was very heavy-handed, as if we’ve been waiting all these years just to get to Layla. Ugh.
Desmond didn’t consciously choose to kill Lucy. That was Juno controlling him. Also, Lucy was a false ally who intended to betray them upon finding that PoE. She was working for Vidic the entire time. Abstergo still planned to put the PoE into orbit and wish away the threat. Juno had already been there, done that and knew it would fail.

But I miss Shaun and Rebecca even more I was happy to see their return in Syndicate. It was actually on a short list of things I liked about that game. The way that ended in a cliffhanger, I’d assumed we’d be seeing more of them and Berg in a future game. Instead, we get some comics, Layla and her intolerable companions.

I’m not completely sure, either. I’m pretty certain that Rebecca survived. The crazy cultists hiding within the Order continued being crazy cultists. I know Violet volunteered to host the mind of an Isu and was repeatedly killed and revived with the Shroud. Eventually, I think Berg and the Assassins combined efforts to neutralize the crazies and the threat of Juno. They really wiped the slate clean, I guess. I wish I liked the new direction.

Grinding side jobs for 49 levels (from 50) would be an endless nightmare. If you begin anew, least you’ll have NG+, so you won’t have to abandon all that invested time. I wish they’d run a mercenary bounty and a ship bounty each week. What’s the point in dragging it on forever? Just give us the stuff and then repeat the rotation.

99 levels but a bitch ain't one hit me! Yay more fast travel points, some of the DLC was a pain due to lack of FT points in that region. Filthy casuals and your fast travel points. If you play it right, you’re only riding Phobos or sailing Adrestia to get wherever you wanna go. It goes without saying that you periodically lead Phobos to water, dismount and stand still for several minutes to simulate watering and resting. (During this time, you’re nearly guaranteed to be attacked by no fewer than 10 separate predators and/or boars.) I’ll admit, I actually do the above, excepting the ridiculous watering and resting bit. For some reason, I find those 15 minute sailing sessions more enjoyable rather than annoying. Such masochism is likely the reason that I’m still playing Assassin’s Creed about 99 games into the series. I’m a glutton for punishment scenery and the great fake outdoors. Makedonia is by far my least favorite region in the game. It’s vast and empty. Origins had the vast southern deserts that were similar, but they were prettier, made a certain amount of sense, and held a payoff in the form of that Isu structure. Makedonia is just a pain to navigate and never really feels worth visiting. I dread going there and merrily leave once I’ve wrapped up my business.
