Kotaku: Odd Tease In The Division 2 Spills The Beans On The Next Assassin's Creed
"An unusual teaser in Ubisoft’s loot shooter The Division 2, highlighted weeks after the game’s release, reveals that the next Assassin’s Creed game is all about Vikings. Kotaku can independently confirm the same." "A few months before this teaser emerged, Kotaku learned from two independent sources familiar with the game that 2020's Assassin’s Creed, code-named Kingdom, does indeed star Vikings. We don’t know much else about the game, but after the phenomenal Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, we’re stoked to see what’s coming."

Okay, so for those of you who played it I wanted to ask did any of you choose to "not pledge"? Just wondered if there is a different outcome or dialogue.

With them doing it more like a RPG now, I suppose it makes sense to go with the Norse since that’s one ancient culture where men and women were equal. Let’s just hope they actually respect the player’s choices this time, unlike Osyssey.

The next trilogy of games better take place somewhere besides Europe. Asia, pre-European Americas, whatever but let’s see the rest of the world and not just one continent.

So the next Ass Creed will involve Vikings? Probably be an RPG? Consider that a pre order. Honestly though if DA 4 does manage to come out in 2020....2020 will be a very busy year for me gaming wise.

I like the idea if we play a raiding viking who ends up on Europe's shores and that's where he gets recruited. The potential for politics and player choice in that era could be amazing. Vikings were sometimes siding with European leaders and would end up fighting other vikings. The various factions were off the charts. I'd like if we started out as a rough-hewn barbarian but ended the story as a stealthy assassin. As a side note, it'd also be cool if this was the game Laidlaw joined Ubisoft for.

As a side note, it'd also be cool if this was the game Laidlaw joined Ubisoft for. If Mike's on AC, it'll most likely be the game after the Vikings one. And that's because Ubisoft Quebec City and Ubisoft Montreal both spearhead alternating AC games at the same time. Mike's settling in Quebec City (and they headed up Odyssey), which means Montreal (which headed up Origins) is already well into production on the AC: Vikings game (along with probably 10 of their other studios ). So Mike (assuming he's on AC) should be getting in just as they're ramping up the following game, which is a good place to start.

Any predictions for the next game...? - Do you think the game tie into/acknowledge the AC novel " Last Descendants – Fate of the Gods" at all, or ignore it entirely? - In the novel, Swedish Viking Styrbjörn the Strong (985AD) leads the Jomsvikings to attack the Danish king Harald Bluetooth. Harald carried a Isu "dagger" that was actually a prong of the Trident of Eden. The Viking assassin in the novel is Thorvald Hjaltason, and he carried a hidden blade. - Will it be the last of the current-gen games or a cross-gen game? - Dual protagonists? This one feels like a slam-dunk. I can't see them going back to a single protag. - Return of the hidden blade, the Isu dagger from the novel, or a new Isu artifact? More than one? The teaser poster did show someone holding an Apple of Eden. The series has incrementally moved into a more fantasy RPG space, and the Spear of Leonidas seemed to be popular, so I kinda expect... something. - Will the pet Eagle return? Maybe a Raven this time? In the novel "Eagle Vision" was known as "Odin-Sight", so I could see a Viking assassin with one of "Odin's" Ravens - Huginn or Muninn (Thought and Memory). - Monsters? Legendary Animals? Also seems like a slam dunk. There's so much to draw from in Norse Mythology, it's hard to know where to even begin. - "Godly" Isu Weapons? Mjolnir (Thor's Hammer), Gungnir (Odin's Spear), Gram (Sigurd's Sword), Tyrfing (Cursed Sword), etc.. - The World Tree (Yggdrasil), the Nine Realms, and visiting places like... Asgard, Muspelheim, Helheim, etc.? Seems likely in capstone DLC. - Leaning more into a BioWare-style RPG space? More fleshed-out major NPCs and relationships? - Map area? - Things you're hoping to see? EDIT 2: - Mounts? If I don't get a goat-driven chariot, or an 8-legged horse in this game, I will disappointed!

-I expect horses for mounts.
-We likely get our own longboat to sail in certain regions. We might get the chance to raid or build up allies before going to the mainland, similar to Odyssey.
-I'm guessing dual protagonists as well, but I hope for a bit more authenticity than Odyssey. It's highly debatable women ever fought in battle and while they had more rights than those on the continent, dark ages Scandinavia was no feminist paradise. If you play a female warrior, other characters should recognize that as unusual.
-I expect they'll lean heavily on mythology so we might get battles with Norse creatures: trolls, giants, dragons etc. We might see Valkyries. They went all out with this stuff in Odyssey.
-The amount of weaponry and armor would be pretty wide, but I don't expect plate armor or rapier type weapons. They came much later.
-Wildlife should be pretty diverse, with bears, wolves and possibly lions as predators.
-I hope they include the roles religion and bigotry played. Both Christians and pagans looked down on the other as inferior. Also, include slavery which was the prime commodity of Viking trade.
-depending on the characters we see, there should be an impressive lineup of historical figures. But more than anything I'd love to see Harald Hardrada.
- A multi-region approach makes more sense in this game than one large map, given how far the Vikings traveled. Let us visit the British Isles, France, Scandinavia etc.

Ahh...this lame argument? Tackling cultural issues in the story has no bearing on whether it has fantasy elements or not. If straight up fantasy games can do it, surely an IP that claims to be historically accurate can.

Absolutely, give us a choice between genders for the player character. However, I personally dislike having to keep up with more than one playable character in the same play-through (any game), so uh... I guess I'd vote no in that case.

Yeah in AC Origins Bayek was great but Aya felt forced on you (and I usually prefer a female protag.) and I hated the chopping and changing for missions. Same with Syndicate but neither Jacob or Evie felt forced, just didn't like having to change for different missions.

Same with Syndicate but neither Jacob or Evie felt forced, just didn't like having to change for different missions. I agree. Bayek is perhaps my favorite AC protag so far, and although I do think Aya was somewhat interesting as a character, I didn't want to play her. At all. As for Syndicate, Evie's style was my preferred play-style (stealthy, that is). But her voice and general demeanor grated on my nerves too much to want to play her, whereas I enjoyed Jacob quite a lot and found him fun. So I ended up preferring the brawler to the smooth operator in that one. But they did force me to play Evie for certain parts. Not fun.

Would any of you be interested in a Cold War/Vietnam era setting? Not at all. I prefer the historical settings. I've lived through the cold war and Vietnam stuff. Too close to real modern day stuff for me. I haven't even been able to muster up any excitement about Vikings. I was so looking forward to Rome.
