Would any of you be interested in a Cold War/Vietnam era setting? I’d prefer ancient Southeast Asia over the Vietnam War.

Would any of you be interested in a Cold War/Vietnam era setting? That's a bit too modern for me. I'm sure they could tell cool stories in those settings, but I prefer older eras. Unity had a great era. I'd not advance much further ahead than the Belle Epoch, if I had my way. I agree with Hanako Ikezawa that East Asia, South Asia or any Asia at all is long overdue. I guess it's a marketing thing. I firmly believe, though, that a good AC game will stand on its own and expand the awareness of its players. I really was not looking forward to a game in Rome. Vikings, however, are a theme I always thought could be cool. Having a longboat and crew in an open world would be epic. While I'm not a huge fan of the recent focus on mythology, it's a natural fit for all of the reasons Hrungr mentioned.

If Ubisoft continue going down the RPG path, and allow us to create our own character. I'll switch things up and do my 1st play through as a female, and make her look like Lagertha from Vikings and role play as her.

How would it play out from a story and combat perspective, having trouble visualising it? They managed to get Desmond to work with only using a hidden blade. Not trying to be difficult but I am just having trouble seeing the story and how it would play out and was hoping you'd flesh out your thoughts. Desmond's scenes were a small part of any game, I am having trouble seeing a whole Assassin vibe playing out for the main story component in The Vietnam war setting. I am visualising Crysis 1 (have you played that?) but with an Assassin as the protag instead of a suit wearing super soldier and I just don't see how it could work. That's not saying it couldn't or shouldn't, I am just not able to see it.

According to William Miles, Assassin's and Templars have been fighting each other for forever and in one form or another for forever. So, they have wiggle room to tell any story they want to. Hell, it can even be a third person shooter if they want it to. As long as it as Assassin's and Templars or any kind of form there.

I don't think even the Isu met the dinosaurs. We had Far Cry Primal already (from where the eagle mechanic came into AC). As for modern age AC combat, maybe something like Mirror's edge? Watched it only on YT, yet to play that game myself, but it's on my Origin waiting list.

If I had to be honest, the two most fitting settings to me were the renaissance and industrial England. So AC2 and Syndicate. The time periods and settings facilitate the gameplay the best. I get why everyone wants to go to feudal Japan as well.

I tried to continue Syndicate from where I left off but the UPS was screaming at me most of the time. I guess the game is not optimised because the UPS is silent through the AC Odyssey PTs. I don't know if I can finish it. It's so irritating.

We got a whole world and thousands of years of history to explore. Would be a shame to go so modern when Asia has not really been touched upon at all

I think I'll have to pull down the graphics. I managed to do the key for the Shroud mission before stopping and was completely at sea (I forgot to check key bindings) in the fight with Lady what's-her-name. I just blankly keep hitting her until she's down and of course the script says that-thing-has-to-happen. I'm not keen on the gang boss fights because the idiots keep running away and I've to chase them with stupid dogs at my heels. The worst was the first fight when I had zero idea what to do until I realised I have to get onto the freaking train on the third reload. The objectives or bonuses aren't given until the stupid fight is over. Like Lady ABC when I saw at the end of the fight I was to evade her strikes. Whatever. Hijack cargo isn't too bad. I just shoot two to three escorts with hallu drugs, let them fight it out, take the cargo when they're all preoccupied.

Can't you let them runaway and just fight them later???? Been a long time since I played it, but yeah nothing about the combat was enjoyable for me especially as I cared about chasing trophies back then and doing those silly spike smack down things really was a pain and not very assassin like.

I could definitely get excited about a norse setting for the next AC, though I was also advertizing an asian setting for a long time. Both sound good to me. After both Origins and Odyssey being such massive games, I am kinda done with antique settings for now and I really don't need another one in Rome (besides, we already had renaissance Rome as well).
To answer@andrewwaples1 , I do think the cold war would make for an excellent AC setting. All the different factions that were active, the intelligence services and covert agents would make for a great background to have some assassin/templer conspiracies on top. I would also like the idea of going a little bit away from the complete open world again but make a little smaller areas that are distributed throughout the glove (which we can travel in between via airplane, similar to how we traveled between Florence and Venice in AC2). This way, you could have an area in places like Cuba (missile crisis) or other central American countries, the middle east (Afghanistan), Asia (Vietnam, China), more urban settings in Europe (Berlin) and of course Russia, which would really give us a lot of variety (might be too many different assets to build though, maybe some as DLCs).
In terms of gameplay, I could see a mix of the classic AC parkour and assassination gameplay, combined with some aspects of the Splinter Cell franchise (silenced guns, cool gadgets). There really is no rule that says Assassins have to only stick to the hidden blade all the time.
Yep, I could see a very cool game coming out of that if the proper amount of effort is put into it.

Playing the AC3 Remaster at the moment, since it was included with my Odyssey Gold Edition, so I got it "for free".
Having fun so far (I'm in sequence 5, Connor just got his assassin outfit from Achilles). I actually like the story in the game. Yes, Connor is a bit of a stern character and doesn't express too may emotions but it kinda fits the stoic native American cliche they are going for. Kenway was the cooler protagonist but yea, he wouldn't have worked any longer than they had him, so it's fine.
All the nature is cool as well and a nice change, particularly from the previous game Revelation which barely had any green in it but the climbing in the trees and on those 2 story (at most) colonial houses is very underwhelming. Especially because the viewpoint trees in the frontier are all the same. At the very least they could have designed a few different trees to climb. Also, how the fuck do they not tell me how to climb down in a game that has six (yes, 6!) hours of tutorial missions? After 8 hours, I found out by accident that I can climb down with the interaction button (e on PC). WTF?
In general, I am very disappointed with the remaster overall. Yes, some textures look better and the lighting is improved quite a bit. However, those weren't really an issue in the original to begin with. On the other hand, none of the actual problem like the wonky controls and the horrible menu navigation have been changed at all. I still can't even scroll with my mousewheel in the codex/database. One of the most glaring inadiquacies of the engine back then - the viewing distance - has been slightly improved but not by much. On viewpoints, the world still seeme to be lost in fog even on sunny days, 50 meters away. Even AC1/2 did better with that. And the graphical improvements have their downsides as well. Most importantly, faces look very out of place now. I am not sure what the reason is, my guess is, it's a combination of everything else in the game now looking better, the fact that they didn't change any of the rather wooden animations and the fact the the new illumination causes some very wierd shadows on faces at times. It pushes the characters further into the uncanny valley than the original did. If you look at actual comparison footage, you can see that in some instances the original actually looks better/more consistent.
So the game itself is fun and all but if you do have the original already, I wouldn't recommend going for the remaster. If you really want to, you might as well play the original again, the differences are purely cosmetic (and the original is still playable as is IMO) and even there, yes, you get some improvements but also some downsides even.
But again, the game itself is not as bad an Assassin's Creed as one tends to hear on the internet IMO. There is too much side stuff in this game, that's where that started in the series. I have a hard time ignoring it but I do in order to keep progression and pacing up and I'd recommend it to anyone else. If you stick to the story missions though and particularly if you are fond of the timeframe of the late colonial days of North America and the war of independence, you'll have fun with it. I certainly do.
Oh, also I should mention, the remaster also includes all AC3 DLCs and a remaster of AC: Liberation (a title for the PS Vita that was later adapted for PC). I haven't tried those yet (hadn't even played the originals yet), so I can't really say anything to them but wanted to mention that they are in that package as well.

The other thing that annoyed me is that they stuck with the stupid listening/spying mechanics amongst other things and didn't get rid of the QTE's, that would also have been a positive.

The other thing that annoyed me is that they stuck with the stupid listening/spying mechanics amongst other things and didn't get rid of the QTE's, that would also have been a positive. So, I think the wilderness/frontier areas look a little better (as most environments do) but in terms of gameplay absolutely nothing has changed to the original, so it's still a bit of a chore IMO, though it does look pretty.
The listening stuff in this game is actually ok I think, because most of the time, you have to move with your targets to stay in range which can be quite challenging, so I think it's actually an interesting mission type (better than in AC1, where you just sat down somewhere and it was basically a cutscene).
The QTEs and stupid mini games really do suck. Fortunately, you can learn the QTEs fairly quickly because it's just e and then three other buttons, so it's fine but I just had to break up that stupid fight between the two idiot woodcutters at the homestead. Took me 10 minutes, just to figure out that you need to do those stupid bars one side at a time. The tabletop games are still unwinnable without help from an online gaming computer to do your moves for you. Or maybe I just plain suck at Nine men's morris but the way I see it, the AI for those games never makes a single mistake, so it's super tough to win on your own. So it's no fun at all.
By the way, I like your new Avatar. The Expanse is awesome!
