ASSASSIN’S CREED ODYSSEY – FIRST EPISODE OF THE FATE OF ATLANTIS STORY ARC LAUNCHES APRIL 23news.ubisoft.com/en-us/article/348214/assassins-creed-odyssey-first-episode-of-the-fate-of-atlantis-story-arc-launches-april-23Assassin's Creed Odyssey will delve into unexplored territory starting April 23, when its second post-launch story arc, The Fate of Atlantis, begins on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The first episode, titled Fields of Elysium, takes Alexios or Kassandra on a journey into the Greek afterlife, where they'll battle the forces of the Isu amid the otherworldly beauty of the titular paradise. As they confront Greek gods and mythical creatures, players will find new Legendary items to give them an edge on the battlefield. They'll also unlock enhanced versions of existing abilities, giving them new ways to deal with foes; in Fields of Elysium, these include Ares Bull Charge, Ares Madness, Kronos Time Warp, and Might of Artemis, with more to be added in later episodes. Players who own the Season Pass or purchase Fate of Atlantis separately can begin the story arc in two different ways: if you're over level 28, you'll need to have completed the Between Two Worlds questline, as well as Heir of Memories, the free Lost Tales of Greece questline that follows Between Two Worlds. Alternately, those who want to jump straight to The Fate of Atlantis can take advantage of a shortcut option, enabling them to start with a new hero at level 52, and begin Heir of Memories before tackling Fields of Elysium. However, this option won't let you carry over your progress to the main campaign, or earn achievements. The Fate of Atlantis continues with two more episodes, Torment of Hades and Judgment of Atlantis, and will conclude in mid-2019. It follows the first episodic storyline, Legacy of the First Blade, which is available now as part of the Season Pass along with Assassin's Creed III Remastered. Assassin's Creed Odyssey is available now on Xbox One, PS4, and PC; for more on the game, check out our previous coverage.

I am still waiting for all of the episodes to be out before I start playing the DLCs. Want to do it all in one go.

I just started to play AC Origins (got it from Humble Bundle May monthly bundle). I haven't played an Assassin's Creed since the first one in 2007 which I considered super boring and that made me ignore all AC games since.
But then everyone in my RPG circle has been talking about Odyssey and I wanted to check it out...but Origins was cheaper, the start of that "trilogy" and I read the gameplay was quite similar.
I'm liking it a lot right now, although I can see how it might become repetitive at some point.
edit: and right after writing this, I go into uplay to start Origins and what do I see, Assassin's Creed sales at Ubisoft. Bought Odyssey at 67% off.

Afterlife??? Wait, we pick up right off after the Layla meeting? *flabbergasted* Sounds mighty weird if true. Where are they going with this angle other than Isu exposition?

AC3 was my first game and I actually really enjoyed it, I liked your summary of Connor's character. I haven't played past Haytham yet but yes the faces and eyes in particular were quite jarring. My hope was that the wilderness areas would be worth the remaster but it sounds like they aren't is that correct? Will make me feel less guilty about putting off playing it for a while. The other thing that annoyed me is that they stuck with the stupid listening/spying mechanics amongst other things and didn't get rid of the QTE's, that would also have been a positive. So, I think the wilderness/frontier areas look a little better (as most environments do) but in terms of gameplay absolutely nothing has changed to the original, so it's still a bit of a chore IMO, though it does look pretty.
The listening stuff in this game is actually ok I think, because most of the time, you have to move with your targets to stay in range which can be quite challenging, so I think it's actually an interesting mission type (better than in AC1, where you just sat down somewhere and it was basically a cutscene).
The QTEs and stupid mini games really do suck. Fortunately, you can learn the QTEs fairly quickly because it's just e and then three other buttons, so it's fine but I just had to break up that stupid fight between the two idiot woodcutters at the homestead. Took me 10 minutes, just to figure out that you need to do those stupid bars one side at a time. The tabletop games are still unwinnable without help from an online gaming computer to do your moves for you. Or maybe I just plain suck at Nine men's morris but the way I see it, the AI for those games never makes a single mistake, so it's super tough to win on your own. So it's no fun at all.
By the way, I like your new Avatar. The Expanse is awesome! Good to hear re the wilderness stuff. Yeah I played the game enough times to master the QTE's, re the listening thing I just have to be in the right mood to do those, last time I played I didn't realise how tired I was and got frustrated too easily. That lumberjack QTE is my vision of hell, being stuck doing that for eternity!!!!!! Last time I played I got my then 15 year old son to do it for me!!! It's also Kaidan Fan favourite QTE of all time as well!!! Maybe we should start a petition to Ubi to remove it? Oh and yeah I am hopeless at those min-games, I can't remember the rules and by the time I fugure them out I have either lost o have no hope of winning. Thanks re the avatar, Element Zero put me on to The Expanse and I have now read all 8 available books and watched the first 2 series, just signed up for Amazon Prime to watch series 3.

Bought Odyssey at 67% off. Origins is a good game but yeah IMO it does get repetitive and I didn't like the melee combat, just not coordinated enough for it on KB+M. Bayek is a great character though and the setting is beautiful, if just a little bit repetitive as well. I think Odyssey is a step up on origins, the combat for me at least is an improvement, there is slightly more variety as well and the setting/environment is gorgeous. Quests and NPC's are more interesting as well and well done on getting it on sale!!!!! I hope you enjoy it. I am biased but when you play ACOD I'd personally recommend playing as Kassandra at least first up.

I had to get used to the kb+m though, my muscle memory is still a bit confused but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it, although I prefer doing stealth kills over "frontal assaults". I also always loved Egyptians stuff. I just need to avoid the "find treasure" and "clear this place" map stuff that aren't quests. Starting with Kassandra was my intention in Odyssey.

Other than the method of traversing and assassination, the combat is slightly different and, to me, more fun in ACOD. Definitely do play Kass first if you get the game. * I definitely will give Origins another shot at a later time.

I, on the other hand, very much prefer playing Alexios in Odyssey. Nothing at all bad to say about Kassandra, though. Her voice actress absolutely deserves every bit of praise she gets. As for Origins, I like it even better than Odyssey (which I like quite a lot). I'll even go so far as saying that Origins is my favorite AC to date, and Bayek my favorite AC protagonist. I intensely dislike Layla in both games, however. Ugh.

For me I liked the story in Origins, the characters, Bayek (not so much Aya), the setting and quite a few of the NPC's. I'd say its just purely personal preference for me re Odyssey, heavily based on the Greek setting but most definitely my inability to get truly comfortable with the combat probably clouds my judgement re Origins. The longer I play Alexios this PT, the less distracted I am by his VA but I still would rather play Kass. Aaaah Layla the very mention of her name is enough to make me grimace!!!!
