Thanks, folks. Yup, I renovated the villa, but it is a bit more scattered this time around. I also think I got to a point when I will have an easier time wandering around, doing a couple of tombs, and such. The story’s pretty entertaining so far. “The liberation of Roma has begun.” I really want to replay this part of the series. The remastered collection got smoked by one reviewer at release, but I later read a scathing counter-review of the original. The original had cherry-picked screenshots and presented a video of bugged mechanics as the “new, remastered” mechanics. Sound like a familiar review tactic? I feel like I still don’t know how good the remastered is. I have no clue if mine is remastered or original, but it is pretty nice looking, if too sterile and you can see that it feels a bit unnatural when you get those eagle view looks, as everything is empty and symmetrical, unlike when you actually look from a high point at a real city, which is always full of random movement.

So started playing AC Rogue after a discussion with Element Zero as a time filler till I can get ACO and as it is the only PC piece of AC that I have not played. I am glad I did its been really enjoyable from a nostalgic perspective in terms of the tie ins to AC3 and BF and the combat is just so intuitive that its like I had never stopped playing as Connor and Edward First ship combat I was bit all over the place but I have finally got to a point where I can upgrade The Morrigan. The game came with the time saver packs and I had already spent the the last couple of days looting places and had salvaged plenty of ships so her Hull is now only two steps away from The elite hull armor and her broadside cannons are half way there. Its amazing looking at how far graphics have come in the past 3 to 4 years, its a beautiful game but the graphics look a bit tired. From now will try to concentrate on the story line, thanks Element Zero for endorsing/recommending this game to me

I miss the combat from these games as well I much prefer the older combat to the new stuff. My son had bought the remastered ezio collection for me last year for the Xbox One and because you and @carefull are playing through them I got nostalgic and finally started them last night........again My youngest daughter asked me how I could play through the AC games more than once....my answer was to glare at her

The stories and settings are good and interesting, the characters are interesting and the combat is good, its relatively easy but there is a skill to getting the timing of counters right. As Element Zero said in a post once, the style of combat makes you feel like an assassin and I'd add that yes that is the case and the newer games like Syndicate make you feel more like a brawling gladiator. I have a 15 year old son and 13 year old daughter both cannot understand why I replay games, I think it must be a generation thing

So yesterday I planned to complete more of the main story but the map opened up and yes I got distracted exploring and salvaging ships to upgrade the Morrigam I did the mission where you have to trail a Templar ship and you get the air gun, which I really like although I prefer to try and take the guards out from by stealth with bare hands from bushes etc. That said I had initial trouble doing the Assassination of the sick Templar. I decided to sprint from one bush to another only to have a guard suddenly spawn in front of me - doh. D-synch and off we go again. Second time tried a different route but found myself in the only part of the garden where the guy doesn't walk and then had to make my way all the way round to the other side and found a bush to assassinate him from cover but he was just out of reach. So gave up and just jumped out and killed him. Moved on and cleared a few places on the map, tried to harpoon a white whale which was an epic fail as the harpoon boat lasted 3 swats of the whales tale and it was all over So back to sinking ships so I could upgrade the harpoons and harpoon boat. Found a ship wreck that spawns polar bears, sorry polar bears I need your hides Found an island that said it was hard, seriously it had 4 guards and they never saw me Did anyone who has played Rogue have trouble with animals not spawning in areas where they are supposed to? I have been to at least 4 places where two types of animals are supposed to spawn but only one does???? That said I cleared a fort and was heading back to the Morrigan, walked round a corner and a damn wolf attacked me and scared the living daylights out of me Shay hanging around: Shay enjoying the fireworks

I'm glad you're enjoying Rogue, dazk. Do you have the Templar Pack with your copy? The sails and wheel in that pack are beautiful. They should've been in the game by default. I always equip them after a certain point in the story. They just exude badassery and broadcast a menacing dare to the Assassins. These are the sails, in this advertisement for some BS microtransaction. They are not part of said BS. Once you've progressed further, I'll mention a small detail about Morrigan that I really liked. It was tiny, but added to the immersion for me.

<snip😉> Once you've progressed further, I'll mention a small detail about Morrigan that I really liked. It was tiny, but added to the immersion for me. Not sure, literally just unlocked sails etc and outfits but will check tomorrow. I look forward to the reveal!!!!! So, are you still with the Brotherhood? I can't recall the point at which sails unlock. I guess the detail isn't that big a deal. I'll sblock it for anyone planning to play who really doesn't want even minute spoilers for an older game. Once Morrigan becomes a Templar vessel, she flies under the flag of the crown. She sports a small green flag to designate in which part of the naval service she is engaged. While the flag is nit a historical one, the practice is. The green flag has been interpreted by fans as a "special service"/"special forces" type of identification. Essentially, Morrigan would pass unmolested in any English waters, as it would be assumed she was on some important errand of the king.
One reason playing as a Templar is so fun is that we're on the side with the power and goods, for once. No creeping around with prostitutes, thieves and scoundrels. We're sporting an official mandate. It felt good, to me, to not be picking on the red coats, finally. We got to kick the asses of the French and their criminal allies. Very cool change of pace. I'd like to play as a Templar, again, if the setting is right.

The first time I played Rogue, Gist’s VA made me want to commit a violent crime. Subsequent PTs blunted its effect. I still hear the guy constantly in other games. He’s always a bit distinctive, but I have no idea what he was thinking with Gist. I likewise have no idea how Ubi thought it belonged in-game. Some of the VA work emphasizes that the real resources all went to Unity. Gathering a bit of detail on the historical Gist, it’s easy to see why Gist was “cast” in the game. Not only was he a known explorer of these times and places; he was also part of the ill-fated Braddock Expedition. You’ll recall Haytham’s, the Order’s and Charles Lee’s presence and role in that venture. He also twice saved George Washington’s life. I like how the AC researchers pull together so many threads. The execution varies from game to game, but the research is always done. You're just getting to the fun parts, I think. Turning the tables on the Assassins was glorious.

You’ll eventually be playing AC: Origins, so you’ll learn their origins. You don’t get to play as one of them, but you learn all the same. The tricky thing about playing as a Templar is that it has to be the right Templar at the right time. Often, they really are the bad guys. The Colonial Rite, Achilles, Ratonhnhke:ton— the sides were less clear at that time.

Seems like a random game to port over, but then again Ubisoft did port over Liberation to ps3/360, so I don't know. I guess it makes since, because we probably won't have a new title for next year.

AC Rogue needs a remaster. It’s a good game, and a crucial link in the series. It got second-rate developmental resources, though, and was released solely on obsolete platforms. I’m still not an Xbox One owner, as their game assortment is pretty pitiful. I do like that they do these old games in the marketplace. I’d like to see something similar via the PSN, but it’s likely not feasible.

I mean, after all both groups are created by the game. So it is weird to be offended on the behalf of Templars. But aww, I did like that brief moment playing as a knight in my sneak-peek nto Unity! It just sort of works out that way. It’s logical, overall. In Altaïr’s time, the Templars and Al Mualim were clearly the bad guys. In Ezio’s story, the Templars were a-holes of escalating scale. In AC3, I felt like I might be on the wrong side. Rogue sort of confirmed it, for me. In Black Flag, I could see both sides, even if some of the Templar’s were a-holes. Unity makes things pretty equitable. With Origins, we don’t yet have the organizations as we know them. Bayek has good cause to hate the Order of the Ancients. I'm definitely ready for another Templar game. I wonder if Rogue sold less well and they feel iffy about it? If so, it couldn’t be that it was released for dying platforms. The series is called Assassin’s Creed, so I realize it will always lean in that direction. Plus, the Assassin’s stand for very popular western concepts. The Tenplars’ idea are good, though; just undone by humans’ limitations and unreliability. Edit: I forgot to list Syndicate. (Can you guess my least favorite game in the series?) It’s Templars were mostly well written. The strengths and weaknesses of their aspirations, at least, were very well developed.

It’s older, right in the middle of the 360/PS3 era. Rogue, by comparison, was released the same day as Unity and DAI, but exclusively for the older platforms. There has always been a fan outcry for remastering Rogue. I’d like to have the entire NA story remastered, but I’d chose Rogue over AC3 every time.

I have a soft spot for AC3 as it was my first AC game, I also liked Connor and it was a nice intro into the naval stuff for Black Flag which is my favourite AC game. I still think AC3 and BF could do with a remaster as the graphics are nowhere near even the quality of Unity. It'd be great to see the wilderness areas in AC3 rendered in a higher quality not to mention the NPC and protagonists facial qualities.

It was launched on PS4. AC3 is probably the least popular title, and I’m not sure where it lies as a priority. While I agree that BF doesn't need a remaster, but no doubt it was held back by ps3/360. The difference in graphical fidelity between BF and Unity is night and day.

Unity looks incredible. I’ve still not played any game that looks better. In regard to BF, I can’t see any way that a game most people own for the current generation of consoles gets a remaster. It’s not financially sound. Remasters rarely do much anyway. I don’t think AC3 would benefit much, since it was already pretty polished, technically. Rogue was spotty and could use the help. It has some rough edges that could be smoothed.
