So no AC Odyssey for me today, not feeling 100% and my old right arm needed a break anyway. Have been reading MEA Annihilation which had been a bit of a struggle up until now but it has really grabbed me since the half way mark. Mainly as the characters have been fleshed out enough not to make them interesting other than for their ME racial stereotypes. Also spent some time ruminating on AC Odyssey. I absolutely love the game, the protagonist the setting, the combat, a lot of the NPC's and the story (as much as I have played it) and most of the quests. What my main problem with the game is, is its size and the volume of meaningless and often repetitive quests which dilute the main story's prominence in the game. It also means after 122hrs of gameplay and 60% main story progression I am still not quite sure what to focus on. I have tried to remember what it was like when I started TW3 and DAI and even Skyrim in terms of how to proceed and how I felt. I definitely remember feeling overwhelmed at the start of TW3 but DAI and Skyrim I don't ever remember feeling like that. I always knew what the main objectives were and I do with ACOD but I am constantly distracted by stuff that is necessary but a lot of it also just seems like "busy work". I personally cannot go past a fort without taking it down because its there but also because I want the resources and I enjoy the challenge. However I have deliberately over the past week stopped picking up any minor quests (those with the little black and white icons), I have not taken a quest from the message board things for weeks and I have just focused on the quests that are black with a gold tick on them. That has simplified things but even some of those quests are quite large. Yesterday is the perfect example of what I am talking about. I started the day with the goal to progress the main story after collecting some Orichalcum and Ancient Tablets which I did and along the way cleared some sites, all good. Then I came across a quest with a black and gold marker (the one with Eppi and the Mycaenean search) which I was keen to do as I had been carrying a rusty Mycaenean helmet for ages in my inventory that was obviously tied to the quest once I started it. The quest has so many stages to it and carried me over so much of Greece as to be ridiculous, not to mention the convoluted path to get to and back from the quest giver every step. So after two hours I still hadn't finished the thing and had to stop playing meaning I advanced the main story absolutely zero. Important to note I am really enjoying the game and even the quest but I actually think the game is just too big and filled with stuff that I don't want to ignore but have had to. Part of this is my problem in the way I play games, get to an area and complete it 100% and move on. I am finding this is just impossible with ACOD but it took me almost 90hrs of play to learn it. When I play the game again I will most certainly push the main questline more diligently and leave a lot of the other stuff to simply do as post game entertainment. If you read all this and it seemed kind of pointless, I apologise but I just needed to clear my head of my thoughts.

So, has anyone noticed that the Odyssey trophies have been updated with the Legacy of the First Blade? Or am I just late to the party? I always notice if my 100% trophy rating dips. It looks like we’re getting at least one new active skill. I wonder if that will be added to our current protagonist, or if we will spend time playing as Darius. Unless Darius is a lot like our protagonist in both DNA and gear, I’m assuming it’s a new skill for our hero. It’s interesting that it’s seemingly set in Makedonia. That’s honestly my least favorite part of the map, so I hope it’s expanded or enhanced in significant ways.

I agree with the sentiment, but I know I’m too weak to wait. I’ll play the first and feel impatient and mildly annoyed if it’s inconclusive. If it at least feels self-contained, I’ll be content. I guess we can’t really use Origins as a standard, since the dev teams are different. “The Hidden Ones” was just mediocre, while “Curse of the Pharaohs” was excellent. The quality of CotP is what moved me to invest in the Season Pass up front.

Anyone noticed that there's a nice chunk of blank land mass at the top of Phokis and Malis? Yeah, it’s pretty sparse all the way through Makedonia. It’s almost entirely wilderness. Even Amphipolis is tiny. They have a lot of space to drop in content, I guess. I imagine launching the new chapters will result in a time jump like Origins’ THO and CotP did. While Makedonia may not end up being completely new, even a short time jump would allow for substantial changes in the regional map. Honestly, the game does a terrible job of conveying the passage of time. A complete absence of Modern Day interludes makes for smooth gameplay; but it takes away one easy avenue for time advances. They could’ve inserted such at key story junctions, but elected not to do so. (Realistically, the IP isn’t nearly as devoted to a retelling of historical events as it used to be.) We know the game begins in 431 BCE, since we’re explicitly told. More can be discerned by the MAJOR SPOILERS I’ve concealed. Essentially, many years pass but I never felt that in-game. I feel like that’s an opportunity for improvement. A story feels more significant to me if I can appreciate its scope. Brasidas fought at Pylos in 429 BCE. That’s the major confrontation in which he’s wounded and our hero captured. Then, he battled Kleon at Amphipolis in 422 BCE. That means 7 YEARS passed between our hero’s capture and the showdown with Deimos and Kleon. Many events and huge swaths of Greece are left out of the game. All of the important battles in Thrakia are omitted. (The map can only be so big and the game so long, certainly.) How soon after Amphipolis does our hero end the Cult and return to Sparta (not necessarily in that order)? A lot is left unclear. Vague is easier, I guess, but I find it less satisfying.

I just turned on the game for the first time in about a day and a half. Weekends are not as suited for gaming with my wife home. Anyway, I get a chuckle out of Ubi’s Steropes headline. “A new cyclops is terrorizing Ancient Greece!” By terrorizing, they mean “minding his own business on an otherwise uninhabited, out of the way island before I invaded his cave and attacked him”. Practically the same thing. 😬

On that note - wouldn't it be awesome if the Cyclops really went nuts randomly somewhere on the map? Probably will be a coding nightmare and yeah, some lynx or boar will kick his butt, but there is so much potential. Sparta vs Cyclops, round 1 !!!

Post by Ubi. Hey everyone, We’ve been seeing quite some activity surrounding two topics, the XP to Ability Points transfer and Upgrades after Level 50, that we’d like to discuss below. XP transfer to AP For those of you who don’t know what to do with all these ability points, we’ve got a “little” surprise: we’re working on a new feature that will make ability points a lot more valuable. Here’s a sneak peek: For the question why all max level players received the same amount of ability points: there wasn’t a clean way to convert XP to Ability points so we decided to grant every player who reached level 50 prior to patch 1.0.7 the maximum amount of ability points. We believe this is the best possible outcome for all of our max level players. Engravings / Upgrades after Level 50 Following Patch 1.0.7, a lot of players pointed out issues related to engravings on items past Level 50. Thanks to your feedback, we’ve investigated and detected two issues related to this that will be addressed in our next patch. The first issue is with the Detailed Statistics page [affected perks below] that makes it seem like perks values are decreased when upgrading past level 50. We are looking into this and want to assure players that the stats are functioning as intended and this is only a display issue affecting the below: Damage with Bow on Distant Targets Damage against Spartans Damage against Athenians Critical Hit Chance while Full Health Critical Hit Chance while Low Health Critical Hit Damage while Full Health Critical Hit Damage while Low Health Headshot Damage The second issue regards poison damage and fire damage which is currently being calculated wrong. Again, thanks for your dedication and attention to detail, a fix (for both issues) will be coming in the next patch. The AC Development & Community Team Last edited by UbiQuB3; 20 Nov @ 10:54pm
Ok, the autumn sale is on. ACO which was 70 has now dropped to 28 (standard edition). Deluxe is 32. There's also the DLCs which from what I heard, CotP is the better one so if I get ACO, I would only get this particular DLC. Syndicate has also dropped, down to 16. Big question now; would I like the game? I've a preference for female avatars / chars.

Obsidian Gryphon , thanks for cross-posting that Ubi Update. So, the damage is bugged but not exactly in the way we’d thought. Origins is a very good game. It’s way more polished, and way less grindy, than Odyssey. Bayek is a great character, and much more of a good guy than the misthios. I put him on par with Ezio and Edward, whom I consider the other two best protagonists in the series. I do wonder how you’ll feel about the combat? Fighting with a shield is very different from running around with all of those flashy spear-powers. Bayek grows to be unstoppable, of course; it just feels different. (Honestly, a maxed out Bayek is more broken than a maxed misthios, due to the Mastery skills.) I think both systems are pretty good, but I again favor Origins. If Origins had a transmogrification feature like Odyssey, it would win on every count. It has a better protagonis; a better setting; a better story and a better realized and utilized world. Curse of the Pharaohs is a real treat. It takes the beauty of Egypt and turns it up to 11.

Origins has too much sand 😂 It's really my only big complaint about it. Oh, and you die from falling damage, don't forget it 😀 Didn't connect much with Bayek and his obsession if Siwa will ever know peace again. The side quests were ok, but often lacking something. The resource gathering is a chore grind, worse than Odyssey if you ask me. It really tempted me to use a cheat. I never got CotP since I got bored from the game somewhere during the Hidden ones. I got it now from the sale and will give it a shot soon. It's a beautiful and polished game, don't get me wrong. Odyssey just checked more of my personal marks.
If you get Syndicate for PC, get also the Dreadful Crimes DLC. For some stupid reason (cough, PS4 exclusive, cough) it's not included in the Gold edition and has to be bought separately. It's one of the, if not the best quest lines in the game.

I never played CoTP either even though I have it, the combat just didn't click with me enough to do all those more fantasy type battles against the gods etc. And yes the resource grind was relentless in Origins and I hated having to kill so many animals, not that I am an animal lover it just seemed ridiculous or dare I say overkill.

Differing opinions. I'm not surprised but everyone can agree that the game is beautiful and polished. Element Zero, the combat in Odyssey reminds me of Achilles's fight with Hector in the movie Troy; the rapid whirl of spear and sword. I'm not particular about the powers since whatever's featured in games are fictional and for entertainment. In any case, it's already established since AC1 that Isu artifacts and the race themselves have extraordinary capabilities so I don't find it far-fetched. Ok, I did get ACO and tried for half an hour. Impressions; * Bayek's movements are unlike Alexios's which is surprising as I was expecting something similar. Bayek moved smoothly and lightly; lithely is what I would say. I would define his animated package as 'neutral' whereas the devs (I noted both games are made by different divisions) for ACOD deliberately designed both protags' basic movement animation to be different from each other. * Using the shield is fine with me but I'm flipped out by the keys. The other keys for climbing etc are also different from ACOD so I might get flipped out by them. * Sand. Sand. Sand. It's Egypt I know. I went to Egypt before, to the perimeter of the desert. It's a bit hard on the eyes. I feel in need of shades.

Oh man the key ballet necessary for combat on PC is what mainly drove my opinion down re Origins, that is exactly what I am not good at and even the two toolbars in Odyssey I find hard. Re the "shades" wait till you start hallucinating in the desert.
