Several PTs later, I'm *cough* - I mean my Lavellan- is still in love with Cullen XD I'm not sure if this is what you call 'normal'.
Think it's too much to ask for a 'happily ever after' update in DA4?
Not asking him to return. I'd be a bit more than terrified if he does tbh, fearing the possibility that BW might do something sad and dramatic to his story arc :'( ..

I sorta just speed read on the first chapter and if I find myself liking the characterization of the characters then that's when I start savouring the whole piece. Been long while since I red one though.
I decided to like the contents inside my imagination better XD

I mean it positively when I say that getting a dog was the only thing that could make Cullen's romance more Disney than it already was.

I’m starting to think no mention in new games of my happily ever after characters in previous games would be best. My Warden Queen is happily by her husband’s side and then next thing I know she’s been away from Alistair for years. Then my Hawke shows up without Fenris and then heads off to Weisshaupt. I don’t want to think about what they would do with my Cullen/Trevelyan. 

Speaking of that, what exactly prompted Cullen's change? I don't remember anything that could have made him rethink his views.

Partly it was witnessing Meredith's descent into madness. More and more, Templars began coming to Cullen as a reasonable authority figure compared to Meredith, and he began to see the fear in mages' eyes as the same fear he once felt.

Partly, it was receiving a letter from his sister Mia two years after arriving in Kirkwall. It reminded him of the person he used to be.

You could see it in Dragon Age 2. Slowly, from Act to Act, his stance on mages began to soften.

I do the Cullen romance for the first time - with my Trevelyan mage no less (I hadn't planned this, I usually wait until Skyhold to see, whom my current character might pursue, with Inara it was Cullen or Sera and since Sera is a great fit for my dwarven lady, I choose Cullen).
It's fun so far - and at least he isn't dropping some major problems on you (I don't count the lyrium addiction, since that is probably not Cullen exclusive. I bet, a lot of former templars want at least to try and get away from lyrium, plus Cullen mostly deals with it on his own) and he is much more honest than in the other games combined. He really did grow as a character. I never even liked him in the other two games and when I started playing, I was adamant to not engage in any way with Cullen, but he really changed and I ended up liking DAI Cullen

I just wished you had some romance specific content during the Wicked Grace scene - especially when Cullen ran off naked in the end - some kind words, some well meaned joke perhaps.

My story with Cullen was I played DAO twice in a row, not understanding what he was yelling about either time. Played as a City Elf and then Cousland. Then I played DA2, barely talking to him. But then, at the very end, when he turns on Meredith? He started being more of a person to me. I was really impressed. Then I learn that he's an LI in DAI and I'm intrigued. But my methodology had been to "flirt with everyone" until I settled on a person. So, I started the Blackwall romance, thinking at some point I'd break it off with him and bounce to Cullen. Blackwall didn't break my heart with his betrayal but I felt pretty bruised and angry when I broke it off with him- far more than I'd expected. I rebounded to Cullen, and 2 scenes later, I was over Blackwall. The lyrium addiction plot happens regardless of romance, but it felt interesting to support a companion with a problem that didn't require killing people. It actually just required you being there and reminding them of their strength.

my 2nd play of DAI, I struggled not to romance him as I tried to romance Solas. The struggle killed the RP for me a bit. 3rd chick I played: I liked the angst of the Blackwall romance so thought I'd do that again and AGAIN reboudn to Cullen. That RP character wouldn't let go of Blackwall though. Can't see her with anyone else now. Now I've played two men, for Cass and Dorian, and intend to do a dwarf next. *shakes fist* someday, I'll be kissing Cullen on the battlements again. Someday!
