Probably because the player can always plow through the Fade with guns (or fire ball or axe or arrows) in blazing glory and have no problem cutting demons down. We never get such a crippling experience where all your team mates die no matter what you do because then, you weren't strong enough (both mentally and by ability) to save them. Addition to that, got betrayed by people you know by name whom you swore to protect (some say to 'keep an eye' or to take the jailer's role, whatever. But what CoTJ taught me is that part of Templar's job description includes protecting mages).
You're still this spec of dust only capable of persevering in your own trials. Something akin to what Cullen experience when Kinloch fell apart.


If you didnt have the CM background in DAO you'd only get to see an angry Templar bent on pressing the RoA despite what Gregoire says and especially after YOU saved his life. Or maybe him blasting out his anger may have made the feelings worse if you came from the CM origin, idk.

And DA2, well, there goes Meredith slowly going insane. If the complaint is about him killing mages in one of the epilogues in DAO, I think the devs kinda make a re-write about that in DA2. When asked about it, he says that it was some sort of wild gossip about him losing his mind after the events in Kinloch.

And if he really did made those kills, it will notably show up in WoT. An information as damning as that would certainly show up in his character page.
So yes, I head canon that certain slide in DAO epilogue is just based on rumors created by some people after he left the Ferelden Circle.

People tend to pick up some certain aspect of a character that gives them strong emotions (be ot good or bad) and give different reaction to it. Different folks different strokes. And it's cool.
But for some, it might be a little difficult in wanting to open up to the other side of a certain character especially when it wasn't a 'love at first sight' kind of encounter.
And so you'd only get to see the character partially and not get the picture as a whole.

Ofcourse, this is my point of view solely. Since many of my judgement came from personal experience and the pains of life, including from those around me. I couldn't felt more honored and priviledged that they have allow me into their secret little world.
