As long as they don't pull that same Crap they pulled in the Trilogy you know having 15 or more Companions is just bad decision making and piss poor writing period.

If Ryder returns in MEA2, then I'd hope that at least Vetra stays.
The only character who would make sense to leave (die) in a direct sequel is Drack.
But sure it would make sense if Cora got her own team, Liam left for reasons already mentioned, and even PeeBee went off doing anything given that she can make the choice to do so at any time.
Jaal is a difficult one - I think both he and Vetra need to stay in a direct sequel (the new "Garrus and Tali").
That would open around 4 slots for new squad.
I just hope they don't do an ME2 and introduce loads of superfluous new squadmates all of who are expendable in an inconsequential side-story...
Anyway all the above could change if the next game is totally standalone where we play as a new main character.
