Well, I spent the evening comparing rocket and shock drones. It was kind of cute to see the rocket drone launch its "rockets" (which looked more like Nerf balls). Unmolested, the rocket drone can work a mook over in a few shots, and it can do some supplemental damage to a boss unit. It also has some mook stagger potential. It does more single-target damage than the shock/suicide drone, as long as it remains positioned to hit the target. It does get confused and fire into walls, but it will pursue a target once it gets far enough around a corner. In terms of utility, however, I couldn't get it to compete with the shock/suicide drone. The shock drone spawns in ready to go, and it affects an area. Launched into a group, it's overall DPS is going to be better, and it's main selling point isn't DPS. The stagger and distraction is invaluable. Any second a unit spends stumbling around or turning its back to me is another second where I can set up the next tech/fire burst while pouring fire into an enemy. I don't put points into Fitness, and being able to slow or stop incoming fire increases my effectiveness greatly. There's no problem with targeting, since the whole point is to get to face-biting distance and start shocking. Destroying it harms all units in the area, and it can be redeployed almost instantly. I'm glad I took a look at the rocket drone, but the question is settled for me. The only heretical build left for me to dally with is one in which I go for greater single-target damage with Overload. The damage increase is notable with other power damage boosts, but I still haven't decided whether that balances the extra effect on a second target. Since I keep the shock drone active, though, the extra stagger becomes less important. It's inconclusive for me so far. When 2-3 goons rush you, the double stagger overload is fantastic. Not no sure about the triple though. I only use the triple chain overload on femgineer.

It works pretty reliably on mooks not made out of armor plate, though. It's probably the better option, but it is nice being able to cut down a single target faster. I dunno.

If they have started any animation like leaping/smashing - it will not work. Actually nothing will work. Not even Charge to stagger them. They are completely immune.

If you are playing on Plat, put at least 3 lvls into Drone. If you are playing with a Drone on Gold or above, stay away from the rocket evolution. If you are not using the rocket evolution, stay away from the shields and damage evolutions. If you want to maximize use of the Shock attack, don't take Chain Lightning, they are competing modes of attack. Power buildWicked fun build

Pfft, aren't you all glad I'm still around to spout my blasphemies? More Blasphemous Builds, HEngie StyleI like to run BBB Drone. It's a nice balance. It still staggers everything, and still explodes when dies, but lives a little longer, freeing up more cooldowns (for more boombooms). Shotgun is also a nice choice. Sniper might also work, since if you roll Geth, they'll stand there stupidly waiting for you to break their stupid flashlight faces. Also, regardless of whether they properly distract banshees or not, drones and turrets DO confuse her, often making her scream instead of warp, which is a good trade, imho.

Power buildWicked fun buildI really like chain lightning and shock, they both help to get the attention of phantoms and goons and centurions if my experience recollection is ok I think the comment about competing modes of attack is open to slight misinterpretation in gameplay terms. I find the most effective strategy is to cast the Drone into a spawn, have it shock three enemies and die as quickly as possible for the aoe damage and continued distraction - which is where its true value lies. Its cooldown is around a second, and in the meantime I'm using just about any light-ish weapon in the game while hitting enemies with Chain Overload and Area Incinerate combos. I tried single Overload but you miss out on staggering Marauders who may otherwise be hidden from you. Tech combos are worth more than individual power boosts. 6(BAB)6660 build with Cyclonic + Indra is great for Plat, with Female specced the same 666 then 06 melee with Omniblade Cryo Incinerate Falcon for sheer lols on Gold. Earplugs optional.

The Combat drone is quite underestimated, it's not the best power in the game but it have a lot of utility.
Not speccing into it is a pretty dumb move, it's great for capturing the attention on Phantrolls and Geth, it's shock evolution is great for staggering mook units (especially Geth) and the explosion from exploding drone is great, especially if you use incendiary ammo.
I always max out the drone for platinum regardless if it's a team game or a solo.

Unfortunately, the Overload stagger on a Dragoon is about as reliable as a rain dance. It works pretty reliably on mooks not made out of armor plate, though. It's probably the better option, but it is nice being able to cut down a single target faster. I dunno. You need to Overload Goons when they are still running. If they have started any animation like leaping/smashing - it will not work. Actually nothing will work. Not even Charge to stagger them. They are completely immune. The answer to that problem is simple : Venom!

The best Combat Drone build is the one that puts zero points in it. I've been around long enough to try and occasionally enjoy my share of hipster builds, but the Human Engineer without a Drone is like an Infiltrator without Cloak or a Vanguard without Charge. Hipster is hipster but stoopid is just stoopid, unless you can persuade me why a player of your skill needs those placebo Fitness points on Gold+?

Ok, ok. I like that build above, but I think this one might be better received around here: TrollgineerBecause "fk you all, and especially fk you Geth. No, just fk you, eat stunlock. Troll me? I troll you." Falcon and Venom are also options, but Scorpion allows for truly silly cooldown times, and helps with the trolling of Cerberus (Phantoms and Dragoons aren't as trolled by his powers as most everybody else, and Scorpion trolls them pretty hard). Sure, Venom might kill quicker, but killing them swiftly isn't the goal, revenge stunlock is. You may also notice the Martial Artist in there, this is so if Geth are REALLY pissing you off, you can bitchslap them as well, or even put on the BatGlove and pummel them into next week.
