Lets have a more up beat thread for a change, basically just say why you went for your specific love interest.
I played as a male Ryder and went for Vetra, she was the most appealing even before I got to know her better.

Hot accent. Mysterious. Cheesy. Flirty. Nicholas Boulton. Had to be done.
I'm a sucker for types like that.

My Scott romanced both Gil and Reyes. Why? Because he could, and because those two are the only choices for a gay male character. Also, I happen to actually like both characters, to my surprise.

For my first character that had a more emocional/professional tone was Vetra, I mean tall Turian with a kickass voice it is hard to pass. Although I did tried to flirt with Suvi and Peebee but it just did not made sense in that PT.

Scott romanced Reyes and Gil, because I had no other choice. Though I did end up liking Gil a lot.
My Sara will romance Vetra (and perhaps mess around with Peebee), because she's badass and a sweetheart at the same time.

Because gay men only get one great but poorly mishandled and poorly presented character on the tempest who isn't even a squadmate and a fling if you don't side with the other one on Kadara while any actual gay male aliens weren't even available to us.

My Sara romanced Vetra and then I couldn't seem to bring myself to romance anyone else on the second time playing. She is pretty wonderful.
I am interested in a Scott/Cora game and possibly a emotional/sarcastic FemRyder/Peebee or Jaal game.
Honestly no one but Vetra appealed to me this time around. Usually there are at least one or two others I am interested in. I like Cora but don't enjoy playing male characters as much. I liked Jaal at first but I didn't really like his bony body or his mission choices. We always seemed to be at odds my first time playing. (I do like his character overall just not as a romance...)

Know you understand how DAI Straight Male inquisitor players felt. Josephine was alright but was too bland and political, Cassandra.......lets just say I am sure that not everyone found her the most appealing. Still though you are right there should be more options for gay male characters by now in the franchise.

When I first heard of the Angara in a gameplay trailer, I said I wanted to romance one. When I first saw Jaal, I knew he'd be the one for my Sara. Turns out he was the best LI ever! He's sweet, caring, kind, loyal and writes the most precious love letters! A bonus for me is, his romance connects with the main plot too, and for once the romance doesn't end in sadness like other plot involved romances in BW games.

Reyes was a last minute code-in while Gil was given to us as "the last minute gay character with another goddamn heteronormative storyline about being gay". Cassandra and Josephine are with you throughout the whole game, hell Josephine has more content than Gil and Suvi could ever wish for and Cassandra is a full-time squadie. Cassandra and Josephine were thought out for their peeps and you guys can't even say thank you. We got garbage and you whine about "This girl ain't pretty" while we whine about "why did you put less thought and heart behind the only two queer male characters in this game and why did you tease about the obviously straight male alien." Fuck your feelings.

Fuck your feelings. OK that was not what I meant by "appealing", for god sake I'am the one who romanced the Turian Vetra without a second thought I could care less for appearances. What I meant was that their personalities might not appeal to very many people. Since Josephine is a politician and wasn't very interesting and was just kind of there half the time. Cassandra just didn't come off as very interesting either at first but did become better much later on in the game. Reyes feels like he was always meant to be the manipulator character that most players will fall for and then regret it. Don't believe me? Lots of people want him to come back......only those who actually fell for it. (this is just my head canon until proven otherwise if you like him thats you thing just don't try to change my mind). Gil? Yeah kinda right about him while I liked him he did need a few more moments to establish himself a bit better.

My issue with Reyes isn't about the manipulative stuff, it's the fact that he actually was a last minute same-sex option to male ryder and it hideously showed. Not only was there no finesse and polish in their scenes in between each other, but clearly dialogue meant for a romanced female Ryder was directed at male Ryders, sounding off as completely bizarre and out there. I mean you guys are lucky, all this stuff is made for you by default while we have to have a reason for our damn stories to make sense. It sucks too because video games are the only place my gay ass can go to to escape bullshit politics and garbage mistreatment of myself and other queer men and folk and I thought that I'd at least get that in one of the few video games where my gay ass is recognized as valid. You guys never have to worry about being afterthoughts. Consider yourselves lucky.

The writers should have put more effort into certain characters and their dialogue when romanced.

I romanced Reyes as Scott and now I'm doing it as Sara, and with Sara it doesn't feel as natural as it did with Scott. And if you want to talk about afterthoughts: It was more than possible for ME3 to corner FemShep into either being single or a lesbian, hence the pathetic excuse of a one night stand with James in the Citadel DLC.

I remember that. Seriously, I felt sad for James and Shepard, even though gay men barely had Kaidan and Cortez. I'm just happy straight females finally have more than one option this go-around, but back to Reyes and Scott, this is what I mean with the whole Reyes issue, but even then <script async="" src="https://assets.tumblr.com/post.js"></script> The comparisons between Scott and Sara is outright terrible. I heard they fixed this a bit in the most recent patch, but I was outright too disgusted to romance anyone else in this game again.

All romance thread lead to LGBT:P ... again?
But I romanced Vetra with my Scott. It was really sweet, and I loved the dinner scene, but it wasn't really for me. Peebee is more of my taste. Love her upbeat personality with my upbeat Ryder. It seems like I am actually getting to know Peebee.
But Cassandra > everybody else.
My canon Sara is going for Liam, because she loves how he manages to stay optimistic, even if he's afraid. He always keep that brave face for the team. Sara accepts him even with his flaws, because no one is flawless.

Not sure is this is upbeat (for Liam) but I started out romancing Liam but then things seemed to stall with him and I noticed Jaal. So I started flirting with Jaal, with Liam right there in the room, and Jaal won out.

Honestly any of the LIs in Andromeda would've been a good palette cleanser after Solas, and that was what I needed. But Jaal was an easy pick. I can romance humans in other games. I can't romance pink squid bunny man other games! I am very fond of Jaal in his own right, though. My only serious criticism is that he seems like he was written as a love interest first, and a character second.

I was pretty slow to warm up to Liam. Vetra and Jaal had bigger first impressions, plus their alien star power. Liam had been flying under the radar until I got his email after the salarian ark mission. Ryder had endured major physical trauma and he followed up with his usual concern for Ryder's well being. It hit me how he had been like that all along, constantly asking if Ryder was OK. (If you recall, he also waited in SAM node for Ryder to wake up in the prologue.) It felt like a two-way relationship instead of me doing all the heavy lifting. His friendship was genuine. There was absolutely nothing wrong with Vetra or Jaal. I just now knew exactly what I had to lose by if I passed up a guy like Liam and he went on to become one of the most rewarding relationships I've experienced in a Bioware game.

Anyone even dares compare him to Kaidan and Jacob will answer to me.

Went with Suvi for the first playthrough, mainly because she's sweet and how much of a goofball Sara is when admitting her interest. Going also have a go at Vetra, Liam, and Jaal because I liked my impression of them (and also because the game seemed pretty adamant about pushing Liam and Jaal on Ryder).
