There is an upside for those girls, though, which is that in the 90's era of online multiplayer, 99% of male gamers are too afraid of women to hit on them during a game. Also, stereotypes are rampant in this era. - Three words: Dirty Tracking Ball. - Everyone has to be multilingual, because if you don't know the DOS command list, you're going to be screwed if you think Windows 3.1 or 95 is going to play that new game out of the box. - Having to learn Logo. Why the #$&@ did we have to learn Logo? THAT SHIT WAS OBSOLETE IN LIKE FIVE YEARS - Disc Drives. No, not those "CD Drives" you think are quaint, but the real damn things - floppy drives. Stick a disk in. Wait twenty minutes. Maybe something happens. - Non-standardized controls. You don't know what it was like before WASD but it was HORRIBLE

I expect my fellow fogeys to contribute gamer horrors that I have forgotten. I nearly earned an eliminatory score by missing an oral for the Baccalauréat (end of high school diploma). I was persuaded it was on another day, and our principal was desperately trying to call me at home. Too bad, I had to unplug the phone to play Diablo 2 MP  Everything ended well but it's always "fun" to start an oral exam being 2 hours late, arriving 1 hour after the last candidate, red-faced, short-breathed and with a dossier that's nearly complete. Thank you 56K. And me for being such a scatterbrain. |

I remember Ultima Online on dial up. I'd get up and set my 'macros' up before school and hold down the mouse click with like a shoe and come back with some shitty skill leveled up like horticulture.

Can confirm. I lost a Tribes 2 game because my cousin just had to talk to a creep she met over ICQ. I had the flag, with 200 ping which was awful to skii with but made me equally terrible to hit for enemy snipers, and I was closing in on the flag stand to cap a 5-4 win on Katabatic with <1min to go and then I lag out, tab out and see the little dial-up icon indicating someone is on the phone line. The good ole days of 28.8k dial up and being excited if my ping was under 200 but nowadays if it is over 80 I consider it unplayable. Quake over GameSpy was hella fun too. Just a bunch of people with crappy internet and computers killing one another.
