That's actually a good question. I'd love to control the power usage of my squadmates as well as using the tactical pausing.

Tbh I always felt like squadmate control was pretty lacking. They made for great conversation, but not much else...except ME1 biotic teams. They made insanity easy mode.

they don't want to design a separate combat system for SP and MP.

I missed the power wheel. It was nice to have. It didn't matter which 2 squadmates the player used, he/she could use the wheel to have this squadmate use whatever power on this enemy while the other squadmate uses whatever on that enemy.
I like to see it return.

I haven't tried insanity difficulty yet, but I feel since we can't control squadmate powers it feels like squadmates don't make a difference for combat except when they talk. They should bring it back

Squadmates were just extra power slots in the other games. They only did 60% of the damage Shepard did so they were little more than window dressing anyway. They really need to make squadmates special in the next game because right now they're kinda just there.

I liked having squadmate powers on hot keys. Liara's Singularity at the push of a button. Singularity, prime um up for charge.
But in this game I thought the lack of squadmate control was stupid seeing that they gave your squadmates party based skills. Drack does battle cry that gives nearby party members increased melee damage, Cora has a skill that restores the shields of nearby party members. However, you can't make them use these skills when they would benefit the other squad members. So I just always picked the upgrades that were solely for the squadmates because picking the party based skills made no sense.

Not sure, but it better return in the sequel. Overall I just didn't like the fact that they removed almost all the options from us to really use our squad.
Can't give them orders in combat.
Can't change their outfits at all.
Can't give them better guns. (What was the point to adding so many weapons and not having the option to give some of those sweet new weapons to our team?)
Can not tell them to switch up weapons when the time comes for it.(love going all shotgun crew in the other games, especially when the combat was going to be close quarters)
Also I wish there were more options to spec your team the way you wanted. There leveling up was just too simple.

I didn'd mind the lack of control for powers... Didn't use it that much in ME2 and ME3, and it felt like a chore when I felt I had to. Glad it`s gone :-p

We are no longer limited in choice of abilities, so maybe they thought it is not necessary to have direct control over squadmates anymore? They could give us more than three active abilities though. I know there are favorites, but they are rather impractical for combat situations…

I am delighted to see that Jaal has proudly stepped into Liara's shoes as the squadmate who tries to keep up with a vanguard, gets their squishy ass into melee range, and gets drop-kicked by the mooks repeatedly. I like to think Ryder stops to give his unconscious body a flummoxed look every time she whizzes past. Or at least the sniper rifle.
I do MISS not being able to save myself from my own poor choices with a fortuitous squad ability, though I guess that's part of pause going away.
I miss Garrus sniping things off of me, though after that video, I kind of feel like I should encourage his assault rifle once for the lulz.

As I said in my review, I suggested the team, going forward, let us button-map our squad-mates Primers or Detonators. Countless times I wanted to use Drack's Incinerate to Detonate a combo I set up. In the OT, you could control your squad better and make combos happen more reliably, which made your squadmates feel like they were contributing more, instead of randomly doing it here in Andromeda.

Hard to say... I would also go with the "they wont design 2 different combat systems for SP and MP" as jackdaniel mentioned. On top of that I think, as they want combat to be more fluent and fast paced, pausing it to give your squad orders would be just contradictory to this goal. In this fast paced combat we have now, it is already hard to give "move there" and "attack this target" commands and imagine power selecting without combat wheel + pause. One of the reasons why I am not enjoying MEA combat, some 3rd person action combat is fine, if I can pause, look around, assess the situation and give proper orders to the team, but this "full shooter experience" is just not for me, if I wanted that, I would play MP or another game. In conclusion, MEA moved from RPG to shooter even more then before. (I watched a vid the other day, can not remember whether it was Battlefield or COD or maybe something else... they had dialogues there too, and could actualy choose what to say, but it was meaningless, just an illusionary decision... MEA feels, somehow, the same, I do make decisions in conversations, 4 options, but the outcome is always the same. Meaningless.)

Pretty sure it was to make combat more fast paced.
I think the new system works pretty well with the exploration, but I wouldn't mind the combat wheel returning.

No reason why they couldn't have both. Just make an option in the squadmate select screen if they should use full AI or only AI on certain features. The more choice, the better.

Just make an option in the companion select screen if they should use full AI or only AI on certain features. The more choices, the better. I could see BioWare adding it in as the "Classic" option. Might be fun to switch it on and off for different playthroughs.

Now that's something I'd like to see return. Setting up combo's is so much damn easier when you get to control your squad.

Simple cause the gameplay was first designed with MP in mind then sort worked into SP to be used. That is the only way a lot of the gameplay crap makes sense such as 3 skill slots, no squad mates equipment or power control and squadmates having 34 extra skill points at level 70 when they cap off.

I never used squad control in ME1-3. But with the primers and detonators mechanic I actually would in MEA.

Several controls were remapped to accommodate jump jets. We also lost the full mini-map and now have to make do with the Bethesda-style compass. Apparently, SAM can scan anything anywhere anytime, except for enemy and ally location during combat.
I don't bother to try to issue squad commands at all anymore. If I can't pause to target what I want them to do, I don't feel that I can afford to take the time to direct them.
