Advent - for which there's no explanation of who they are, who the leader is nor how they got to Eos. Just another bunch of exiles. And they got there the way all exiles get everywhere. The magic shuttles that there seems to be an endless supply of and can travel everywhere just as fast as the Tempest.

Well I just finished the book yesterday and did a search for a topic on the book and this one came up. A few comments about the book:
It was pretty well written for clarity and pace overall, the style of writing was good and it did a pretty good job of providing that fill in information for events before the game. However.....
Once again BioWare book writers have managed to try and make a hero/anti hero and to paint certain characters as villains. (See Dragon Age Asunder and Mask of the Betrayer) In reality the hero/anti hero (in this case Sloane) comes off as a stupid, selfish, incompetent, moronic traitor who is the ultimate in double standards while the bad nasty villain in the Tann comes off as mostly reasonable, logical and pragmatic.
Addison, basically a non factor. Calix another flat out traitor with almost no plan who got what he deserved imo. Kesh and the Krogan were the most reasonable ones in the game.
No wonder that dumb cow Sloane became a crime boss.

Neither, I probably would have gone the route of Gil or Vetra in that situation. Like was said before, leaving the Nexus with the exiles would have had a higher chance of being the suicidal choice. In that situation, I'd just stay on the Nexus where I know (at least for the immediate future) I would have a source of food and shelter. If I had protagonist fictional super powers, maybe I'd go with the exiles, but nope.
