Playing an Andromeda without the ability for my self-insert to go balls deep into a fine rump like Cora's?! Fuck out of here with that.

I would totally play them without the romance. Romances are certainly a very fun part of Mass Effect and increase the replayability, but for me they are not a necessary component.

No, because aside from Bethesda, Lionhead, and a few indie devolopers, no one else gives me the option to be a diest death machine who happens to be gay. Take that away, I have no gay hero, and henceforth, no desire to play. Also, the gay hero's love interest may never be a goddamn throwaway, or it'll be like you never cared for there to be a gay hero in the first place.

Yes i would. I see romances as that extra flavour that might get me to replay the game a few more times with a different character type. Still it wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me if they cut them.

I voted no. Do I solely play them for romances? Definitely not, I'm not that shallow.. yet.
Why would I choose not to buy if Bioware's games didn't have this side-fluff in the games? Because my gaming attention is limited, I need something from a studio to draw me away from my usual games. for Bioware's games: that's romancing a companion IF I want to. I have nothing against the rest of the game, usually find everything that isn't romance/companion based in Bioware's games very much enjoyable as well, or I wouldn't play them at all obviously, not here solely for romances. I already have an extensive game library to choose from (meaning literally hundreds of games I can pick to play instead). So ditching romances, or even just ability to build a close friendship between protagonist character and companions, removes my main draw to these games which I would usually not be interested in at all otherwise, due to having too many enjoyable games to play already. So yes, the romance addition in any new Bioware game is a major draw to get me to buy their game, instead of some other studio's one.
I'm also only here because Donk made this poll thread, and I miss Donk. *crawls back into hiding*

I don't think so. One of my favorite aspect of BioWare games is getting to know my squad and developing different type of relationships with them all. It's nice being able to develop that deep of a relationship with one of them especially.

Never really cared about romances as i figure they should rather make their game better instead of incessant focusing on romances. But this begs the question as to why the two things would necessarily be mutually exclusive. Like, what would have been potentially improved in ME1 2 or 3 if that particular content was ditched?

Romances are a great way to expand on a character, and would absolutely HATE IT if they ever remove them from future games. That said, I would still play future BioWare games.

But this begs the question as to why the two things would necessarily be mutually exclusive. Like, what would have been potentially improved in ME1 2 or 3 if that particular content was ditched? Ah the reasoning that both are possible. Sadly it never is, an example MP in a SP only game, where we can clearly see in MEA that game was first designed with MP in mind then came the SP. Would i like that they had both romance and proper quests, dialogues for other stuff as well? yes i would but that is not possible. Hell infact the focusing of romances is hampering the game for me. I would have loved if i could kick out squadmates from the ship, but due to Romance, Peebee and Liam can never be kicked out of the squad. That was just an example but i do believe this should first focus on making their game a RPG first and then romances. ATM their priorities appear to be skewed.

Even so just cutting down on the romances would be a step in the right direction. We don't need 8 - 10 options per game. 4 minimum and 6 maximum. Make sure everyone gets an option each among the squadmates and expand the romances more. They way they are doing it right now is spreading themself thin on even the romances, which kind of defeats the purpose of having them to begin with.

I would, but I think the games would lose a lot of their charm.
Romance allows me to feel more attached to certain characters, and it's honestly one of the things I look forward to the most. Like with Dragon Age, the fact that my Warden actually formed a family with Morrigan feels so unique.

Yup, I would. Romances are ten minutes of expendable side content. It's become something that I explore out of curiosity in my first playthrough and forget about in the subsequent ones (if I do any).
And who knows, without romances we might get 1000 page threads about how good the story was and not which NPC likes it up what hole and optionally what a bad decision that was. Heck, the word "option" might regain its original meaning and not refer to "number of bangable NPCs" anymore.

Like with Dragon Age, the fact that my Warden actually formed a family with Morrigan feels so unique. It is great for roleplaying, but it has taken so much focus away from everything else. Some of the games that are considered to be Bioware's greatest and indeed classics, KoToR, BG:II, DA:O all had 4 options or less. Now with Inquisition and Andromeda we are up in 8 - 10 options. People saying that romances doesn't take away time and resources from other content is wrong. It takes writers to actually write said dialogue, then you have to animate addtional scenes and polish those scenes for a good cinematic experience. It takes time and money, which could be spent improving other sections of the game. As for the topic i would play Bioware games without the romances, but i don't want them gone forever. However they need to figure out what they actually want the romances to represent and how to make them matter more in terms of the overall narrative. Like you mentioned with Morrigan, that actually had something to do with the main story. Same with Bastila and Carth in KoToR. The only romance lately that mattered in terms of the story was Solas in DA:I.

Like you mentioned with Morrigan, that actually had something to do with the main story. Same with Bastila and Carth in KoToR. The only romance lately that mattered in terms of the story was Solas in DA:I. Solas wasn't even going to be a romance option originally, BioWare used the extra time they were given to make him one. The result was a sizable amount of fans being drawn in by these additional scenes, and adding an extra layer to the story that will be important for the future. Practically all of Inquisition's romances were written well and using Solas as an example, the effort was not wasted. I would argue that all romance matter towards the story, because the player will have a greater sense of urgency behind what happens next. With Miranda in Mass Effect 3, she'll die no matter what if Shepard breaks up with her on the Citadel. Just watch that specific scene, it shows depth that would otherwise be missed in a platonic relationship. Does BioWare need to narrow down on which characters should be romanced, in order to increase the quality? For Andromeda that seems to be the case since Cora, Peebee and Jaal obviously received the most attention. BioWare's real problem was that they got overambitious with the content, and put quantity over quality in this instance.
