Regarding microtransactions, Brenon Holmes (creative director on Anthem) posted this on Reddit. “I hear you. We're talking a fair bit about this at the moment. I can't really talk about it too much, but it's an ongoing discussion. And if it helps at all, we're gamers too. A bunch of folks on the team have similar positions on monetization... so that perspective is definitely represented.” He also elsewhere says that’s Heir was never on the Anthem team and wouldn’t have been in the loop on plans for that project. Don't they talk about what they do among themselves - working for the same company?

Don't they talk about what they do among themselves - working for the same company? Sure, they talk, but they don’t brief people who aren’t on a project on all its high level decisions and plans. Plus, it sounds like they haven’t settled on monetization plans even now, many months after Heir’s departure. You can bet they look very closely how the competition and their own SW game is received.

Good find Heimdall... I agree they'll be paying close attention to BFII and see if the current backlash will translate to a loss of sales (hopefully), or amount to nothing more than internet noise. The Metacritic User Scores for Shadow of War are right in the toilet, and there is some evidence it has impacted their sales. That there is some support on the team against these exploitative practices gives me at least a thread of hope to cling to. That said, I feel that isolating paid LBs to cosmetics only is about the most I can hope for here... But Brendon's comments about what Manveer knows, or doesn't know, feels more like damage control than anything else. We know Devs talk to one another, not just within their own studios, but studios across the industry.

Normal Mad Bee @angryspacebee[Thread] My contract at BioWare ends this Friday. I was not expecting my short few month contract to turn into a year contract, nor was I expecting to thoroughly enjoy testing art assets. I already had several years of experience as a game artist, so I had the foundation already set to review, test and provide useful feedback to the art teams on their work. Doing this sort of work provided me the understanding on what "good" looks like when dealing with 3d assets. I also got a better understanding on how damn important having an embedded specialized QA person in every facet of game production is. They are the last line of defense and that extra set of eyes that, artists especially, need. I know from personal experience how easy it is to go blind to your work and become to hyper focused that it works to your detriment. ANYWAYS, I loved my year at Bioware. The last year has been fantastic for me. :> Perhaps I will return later on. I should also mention after creating test levels, I REALLY ENJOY level design. I find it amusing that that article says "on the right track", when the only change is a UI one which allowed them to have more items in it (which resulted in more stuff available). You can resell basically everything from the Cartel Market to players for in-game money, the downside is that only people with subscription have the money to buy anything because of the credit cap on F2Pers and Preferred, but I didn't have the impression Anthem was going to be a sub-based game so we can ignore the credit parth thing. I'm not sure if that is going to works for Anthem though. It work in SWTOR because the majority of the players plays to "play barbies in Star Wars". They aren't in it to get sweet loot form lockbox or mobs like the Destiny crowd.

I'm sure the Sony show will be worth watching anyway, but I don't expect to see Anthem there. BioWare just needs to go away into the shadows after how the handled MEA post-launch. It would be too soon, personally to show something new. That being said, they did show of MEA footage during the PS4 Pro reveal and revealed the game during different 'rival' events. So, it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

News has just begun circulating that Steven Gilmour (Lead Animator on Anthem, DAI & KOTOR) has left BioWare. His LinkedIn page states that he's left in August. People must've actively digged for anything to write about, just like those Glassdoor reviews for CDPR. Anyway - 17 years in BW. Nice, a veteran. Wish him well in next endeavors or happy retirement if he feels his time in gaming industry is over.

Surely they meant texture? I doubt that petrography is really a thing on their resume. Well, it depends. The rock will look different depending on its composition or what's eroding it. All they really want to know which landforms can be formed by which rocks, so they do not pattern columnar basalt with granit texture or something. They have no need to go into composition, and properly identifying each rock, percentage of each mineral in it, proper name that depends on it, etc. So, texture, rather than composition.

They have no need to go into composition, and properly identifying each rock, percentage of each mineral in it, proper name that depends on it, etc. So, texture, rather than composition. Nobody said that they have to go into minute detail of rock composition - but knowing which texture fits which rock likely requires bit more knowledge than texture alone.
