By the end of my playthrough, I just felt sorry for it. I laughed, I cursed, I set it on fire the first time I took it out, but not on purpose. (I fell into a pit of lava.)
At least I can kill things with it.

When playing ME1 on the computer, before it became available for the ps3, it was bad. Now that's on the ps3, its not bad since its easier to handle using a controller

ME1 was trying to incorporate RPG Elements into a Sci-Fi Shooter. Therefore, you couldn't realistically expect awesome vehicle controls. Of course, the Mako seems comnpletely unaffected by Gravity, atmospheric pressure, and handles exactly the same on all planets(Then again, all habitable planets seem to have the exact same gravity and atmosphere). Wandering around the Mako searching the galaxy for Turian medals was a nice break from the main storyline. I also liked actually having a vehicle with weapons.
Bottom line: The Mako may have been a tad clunky, but it is one of many things I wish they brought back in later games.

Eh it was ok. Miles a head of Hammerhead but that is some low hanging fruit to compare it to. Controls could have been better as well as it's ability to climb could have been better given how rough they created the terrain of a lot of worlds.

I kind of liked it. Definitely more than that crappy hovercraft in ME2 - the thing that would always threaten to have its engines freeze up and stuff. I mean, wouldn't a shuttle make more sense than that thing?
The Mako was horrible with maneuvering and definitely had trouble climbing up sheer mountains (though it could ride them horizontally). What I liked was how it could tumble end over end and land right side up. On those rare occasions when it was stuck on its back it could usually be turned right side up with a little bit of jumping. Plus, it has guns! I wish it was faster, but that's partly the fault of the Nomad for having an accelerator and me trying to use it on the Mako when I switch back to playing ME1.

I do somewhat miss jettisoning myself off a cliff when exploring worlds. Nomad just doesn't feel the same.

I loved the Mako. It was hard to control at first but when I learned to it was really cool. Nothing couldn't be climbed with it. I also loved the cannon on it. The Hammerhead was nothing in comparison to the might of the Mako

I love the MAKO, I started a new FemShep Vanguard in ME1 a few days ago ( Need a bit of rest from ME2 ... so now I play ME1. ) and I have to say that I miss the MAKO in ME2. That thing gets you nearly every where, it helps to soften up the enemy with its weapon systems and is useful with scouting ahead due to its zoom function. ( It especially helps to soften up Thresher Maws. ) The MAKO feels more like a Tank to me then the Hammerhead. ( Although the Hammerhead can jump much higher. ) I realise that the MAKO does not fit the levels where you use the Hammerhead in ME2 ... but still.

"OK but should've been better, physics sucked"
I like the concept of an exploration vehicle, being able to find "secrets" off the beaten track, and the notion of vehicular combat. I'd be more inclined to say that the physics implementation was "flawed" than "sucked", but I'm forgiving of the ME trilogy's flaws in general.
I'd have liked the shield recharge rate to have been faster. Sitting around for minutes waiting for the shields to recharge is not my idea of a fun time.

The Mako handles like a drunk rhino... what's not to love about that? The Hammerhead is made from tin foil, so it's worthless. The Nomad needs a cannon. Bitches love cannons.

The Mako was fine. Everything else around the Mako was not fine.
I play on Xbox, so the driving/camera control was similar to other games, most notably the Halo franchise which I had been playing a lot of up until I first started playing Mass Effect. (I hear that PC controls were bad, though.)
The terrain tended to be the biggest issue with the Mako, which is where a lot of the frustration comes in.
Also: -50% XP for killing enemies in the Mako. Seriously, BioWare? You give us a tank, then punish use for using it. Ugh.

Aye, I found this out by accident when I got waxed by the Colossi at the end of the Conduit run during my most recent ME1 playthrough. I ran at them with my shields in a bad state due to impatience, but was pleased to find them at full strength after the reload.

(I hear that PC controls were bad, though.) The controls got better when I started using the manual settings from this mod. ( In my opinion that is, others may believe differently. ) Mako - Improved controls

One of the best thing about it is getting it up to ramming speed and smashing into an geth armature hitting it hard enough to send it flying into the lava on Therum. excellent.

After having driven the Nomad and then going back straight into ME1, I have to say, the MAKO did bother me. I was always fine with it before but the Nomad spoiled me. One of the MAKO's main problems are the maps though. If you do have maps that are actually designed to work with th emAKO (like the asteroid in BdtS), it's fine. It's mainly the stupid side mission planets where it frustrates like hell.
That said, I agree, the Nomad should ahve a canon and there should be some vehicle enemies in ME:A.

There's fanfic out there that specifically has squadmates comment on how bad of a driver Shepard is. Helps me enjoy the Mako even more in-game because I can RP that Shepard likes the rough ride.
