I finally, after like a decade, got myself together to finish rebuilding an old wall clock. The story is that, long ago, my sister visited my parents for some holiday, and apparently there was no other place for her to sleep but the living room. She then imagined she couldn't sleep with the wall clock ticking. (It also struck every hour, but that could be disabled). So she threw a pillow at it. It crashed to the floor and stopped. Then she slept happily. However, that clock never worked well again, and finally it refused to work at all. Well, the times had passed beyond availability of such old clockworks and service for them. So nothing happened for years. Until I got my hands on it. I checked it out, and disassembled it to a degree. There were things bent inside that I tried to bend right again, but I couldn't figure out why it didn't work. It would work for a minute or so, every time, but then stop, every time. So I eventually fit it with a modern quartz clock movement instead. That operation was a success and the clock has done it's thing for many years now. However, I also wanted to get the old, original pendulum to swing again, and I devised a sort of idea of how to do it. But it never moved beyond that, until today. I have now built a new pendulum, with the old gilded, lens shaped weight, which I'm sure will fit both the clock and the quartz movement. P.S. Yes it did. .. I'll probably take it down again though, to let all the glues harden until tomorrow, just to be safe.

...And I started to play 'Hearts of Iron' again for some reason. Couldn't load any of my old games, as usual, patches, so had to start all over. Decided on Britain this time. - Awwh Gawd! What a struggle it is to get that country on war footing. - Nothing! A gigantic, obsolete fleet of small, old ships. Not many shipyards. Air wings with only a quarter of the needed aircraft, ...and biplanes at that. Not enough muskets to go around to all the soldiers. Not a single truck. - And hardly any factories. Luckily, it's been rather quiet for awhile. Hitler got quickly deposed by a military junta. Soviet has a civil war between Trotsky and Stalin. Japan, though, has started to be troublesome, and I'm trying to reinforce Singapore and Hong Kong, but my factories don't put out much. Bloody micro managing waste of time. ...Don't know why I'm doing this.

I heard some strange whining outside a month/6 weeks ago. It was like 3am, fairly still night otherwise I might not have heard them... was fighting Reapers, Banshee scream loud. Anyways, I got up and went downstairs, through the side door of our garage with a machete because my omni-tool is broken. I heard the noises growing, and honestly reminded me of the sound of jackals. They were large coyotes, almost the size of a labrador. Small pack, maybe 3. Not wild dogs, not wolves, a pack of large coyotes. I walked out further. They looked at me and starting moviing away... fear is what I needed to see. I took off at my current full speed, which is Slowpoke Rodriguez territory but I went for it. They ran like hell. But they are out there. As a representative to their clan, maybe Beerfish table a negotiation with these brute coyotes?

I am LOTR fan and I have read the books many times, before watching the movies (extended edition). I am watching the movies again and thought about the differences. The books are masterpieces, but they are not suited as a precise blueprint for a screenplay. The movies cannot catch the subtleties of the books. The medium doesn't allow it. Besides there are too many stories in the original, which don't fit even in an extended edition. The story of Gríma Wormtongue and Saruman is a good example. "The Scouring of the Shire" would be too long and moving it to the mirror of Galadriel makes sense. Of course it destroys the anticlimax at the end of the LOTR, but you cannot have it all. Tom Bombadil had to be removed, but that's OK, because he doesn't advance the story. Of course there are many more differences, but overall, I love both the books and the movies.

No. I love the books, and despite a good attempt, I don't care for the movies. Bakshi did a better job, and his version was hardly perfect. To have been done properly, it needed to be 6 movies, one for each "book". Whose lawn is this anyways?

They left out some very key things in the movies no doubt. Bombadil being one of them but overall I thought they did a great job with most things. I was happy with the movie versions. The Hobbitt was not as good but overall I enjoyed the whole series.

So....I had a really bad tooth infection in a previoiusly root-canaled tooth back in December, was sent to a root canal specialist and he recommended the tooth be pulled. Went to the hospital to have the surgery. THe Surgeon I saw was fabulous, and even he said "everything you're telling me about your experience perfectly lines up with what I'm seeing in your X-Ray. As I can see from your Xrays, the membrane that protects your sinuses and your teeth is already very thin and looks to have a slight hole in it....so I may need to do a Sinus Graph and pack the hole in your sinus cavity after your tooth socket is healed. But depending on how your jaw heals and the placement of the tooth that was extracted...you may not even need an implant."
So he pulled my tooth and then he showed me what it looked like. The infection may have started in my sinus cavity- but the tooth was cracked quite low below the gumline, so that is how it became infected from the sinuses. But there was also a large pea-sized clump of bloody puss that was sitting on top of the bottom of them tooth. THe Surgeon was not sure why that accumulated,so he sent it for a Biopsy.

I got some bad luck with the LOTR. The version I got didn't allow me to switch off the Dutch subtitles. That was annoying. Also, the streaming service didn't have the extended version of the Hobbit, nor did it have the bonus material of both. So, I thought I have a DVD player in a computer, so let's see if I can find these on DVD. And to my surprise there was a version with both in one package for very cheap. It was late and I thought it was better to order it the next day. Of course it was sold out that day. Luckily the Hobbit had a cheap new extended edition, which I ordered and I found a second hand extended edition of the LOTR. The Hobbit arrived today, but it turned out my DVD player didn't work anymore. RIP. Ghehe. Luckily I could order a very cheap DVD player which arrives tomorrow. And I had to order a USB cable for that, which will arrive the day after. All in all, the cost combined was twice as much as I originally intended.

Got Archangel Garrus, Kasumi and Grunt last night, also was totally atrocious at the save the crates against Mechs quest and only got 9 out of 20. Lots and lots of planet scanning......yay?
Now I am off to get Subject Zero. I'm a pure Biotic so not sure how to make up my squad going forward, I like having Jack on my team.

I've been fighting with my insurance agent for 5 months now because he screwed up several things in my policies and the company simply cannot get it right again because of their sheer incompetence. Now I sent my insurance agent such a spicy letter I feel almost bad about it, and now I realized I even accidentally butchered his name - the final insult, lol.

My last dealing with my insurance company was the same, just awful awful awful.
Today I went and got my covid booster shot and then went and bought groceries, the cupboards were bare and the last big groc trip was like December 17th so I knew this was a doozy.
The grocery bill hurt far more than the needle in the arm.

This morning I discovered that I had become a victim of CC Fraud. I haven't used my CC since I first got it the morning of December 9th 2022 (the first and only thing I ever did with it to this day has been to call and Art Store and order a canvas as a Christmas gift for my mom). The Charge then went through the next day, as per normal, as expected. I gave the store clerk the CC info over the phone. I haven't used my CC for anything else since that day, but this morning I discover two charges and a credit- posted on Thursday February 2nd from a Walmart near my house.
I have never in my life ever used my CC at Walmart! I only ever have used Debit or Cash, yet these were very strange amounts. 177.70 and 83.20, and he credit was for $61.30. All from Walmart, all on Thursday February 2nd during a time when I was at work and I had my wallet on me.
So I called VISA and they reversed all charges, cancelled the card and within 7 days will be sending me a new card with a new number.

Because heating has become so expensive I turned it down a lot to save money. Last couple days room temperatures where 14-15c / 57F during the day and it turns out that's not so bad at all. I hardly notice it, even when I sit at my computer and don't move a lot and I slept really well. Though a relative came to visit me and she complained about the temperature.
In fact, I think I like it that way. Only downside I have noticed so far is that it takes me longer to warm up for weight lifting / resistance exercise.

My monthly energy bill increased from 159 to 334 euro. Now with aid from the government they lowered the bill to 189 euro. I used to keep the temperature at 21C to 22C degrees, but these days it's never lower than 19C.

Like you when visitors come over I have to explain the coldness or turn up the heat and then i become too hot. However the odd time like last night if i am feeling a bit chilled i turn on my electric fireplace for a bit and close the living room door and that warms things up.
Way way way easier for me to sleep in a cold room with warm bedding than a hot room.

I prefer cold over heat any time. My energy contract is still fixed so would not have to worry about it money wise but decided to check out how it is to turn down the temperature and have to say I am fine with it. During the day it is 15C in my house and in the evenings when it is colder and I am sitting around the max I turn it up to is 18C nowadays. When friends or family come over that want it to be warmer I do turn up the heat but I will be sitting in a T shirt while they wear a sweater . In my bedroom no heating at all, never had it for that matter unless it would get under freezing point. A cold bedroom with good bed sheeting is best I think and I feel best with that. Temperatures dropped below 0 last night, it will stay like that for big part of this week. Now sitting behind my pc with thermostat set at 17C and not feeling cold at all.

I don't let mine go below 20 C in the winter, and right now it's...22.8 I get to save some money the other three seasons. In the summer, I let the house get as hot as around 26-27, and that keeps the costs down.

I used to keep the temperature at 21C to 22C degrees, but these days it's never lower than 19C. Yeah, I would be frozen. I don't let mine go below 20 C in the winter, and right now it's...22.8 I get to save some money the other three seasons. In the summer, I let the house get as hot as around 26-27, and that keeps the costs down. Hence my nick. But I was much like you. In my country energy prices went through the roof. I slowly got used to lower temperatures. I still feel warm and comfortable, though.

After 3 years of paying my postgrad studies out of pocket and learning yesterday that the PhD scholarship I applied for had failed, which meant I wouldn't be able to start it, I came home to an email that let me know I had received a faculty scholarship covering all three years. I didn't even know that existed. Still not ruling out the possibility that I had a stroke and this is all a coma dream.

Yesterday I went to a funeral of a lady, who was awesome in the way she lived and what she meant to others and children's education by computer in my country. I had the honor to work for two of the companies she financed back in the day.
That funeral was, just like the lady, special. She was not religious, so instead several people prepared stories of her life with photographs projected on a screen. Because jazz played an important part in her life, a professional band was hired (trumpet, clarinet, sax, piano, double bass and drums). The band played in between presentations. They also hired a camera man to stream the event live for family overseas. There were drinks and food afterwards. Although a funeral is supposed to be sad, it was one were people also smiled. That was OK. She would have wanted it.
